Nowshahr, also Romanized as Now Shahr, Noshahr, and Nau Shahr; also known as Bandar-e Noshahr, formerly Dehno, is a city in the Central District of Nowshahr County, Mazandaran province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. The largest ethnic group in Nowshahr is the Mazandarani people and they speak the Kojuri dialect of the language. They are also fluent in Persian, the official language of Iran. It is a port city on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea.

Mazandaran province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran, located along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea and in the adjacent Central Alborz mountain range, in central-northern part of the country. The province, founded in 1937, covers an area of 23,842 km2.
