The home of Dr. Hiram Rutherford. He was an abolitionist in Oakland and friend of Abraham Lincoln and was involved in the 1847 Matson Trial, where he was charged with harboring runaway slaves and found not guilty.
Coles County is a county in Illinois. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,863. Its county seat is Charleston, which is also the home of Eastern Illinois University.
