"Show Me Heaven" is a power ballad written by Maria McKee, Eric Rackin and Jay Rifkin, recorded by McKee and produced by Peter Asher for the soundtrack to the Tom Cruise film Days of Thunder, released in June 1990. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and went on the become the sixth highest-selling single of 1990 in the UK. Additionally, the song became a worldwide hit, topping the charts of Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway and becoming a top-five hit in Australia, Ireland and Switzerland, it has since been covered by numerous other artists. "Show Me Heaven" originated as "Secret Fire", a track written by Eric Rackin and Jay Rifkin for the soundtrack of Days of Thunder. When Geffen contacted McKee in the hope she would record the song, the singer dismissed the idea, but the label insisted they send her the demo tape for consideration. On hearing the demo, McKee felt the lyrics were "appalling", she told Simon Mayo in 1991: "I liked the melody but I said I'd only do it if I could change the lyrics."
McKee's demand was refused, but she was given permission to rewrite the lyrics. Dave Sholin from the Gavin Report wrote, "There aren't many singers on the planet who can outdo Maria's remarkable vocal range, it was her voice. Now as a soloist, she puts all that special ability to the test on the heart-stopping love theme from the Tom Cruise film, Days Of Thunder. A couple of listens won me over." Greg Sandow from Entertainment Weekly noted the song as "affecting" in his review of the Days of Thunder soundtrack. "Show Me Heaven" spent four weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart, ending the year as the country's sixth highest-selling single, is McKee's only UK number-one as a performer. The power ballad had greater success in Norway, topping the Norwegian Singles Chart for 10 weeks; the track was a number-one success in Belgium and the Netherlands."Show Me Heaven" failed to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 but did reach number 28 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. In Canada, "Show Me Heaven" reached number 69 on the RPM Top Singles chart and number 30 on the RPM Adult Contemporary chart.
Elsewhere, the single reached number two in Ireland and Sweden, number three in Australia, number four in Switzerland, the top 20 in Austria and New Zealand. Australian singer Tina Arena released her version of "Show Me Heaven" as the fifth single from her 1994 album Don't Ask. Although it did not chart in her home country, her version of the song reached number 29 in the United Kingdom, number 33 in New Zealand and number 78 in Germany, it peaked at number three on the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and number 52 on the Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary chart. In 1993, Cheap Trick lead singer Robin Zander released a version of the song on his self-titled debut solo album. Zander's version features McKee on backing vocals. Laura Branigan recorded the song and featured it as one of two new tracks on her 1995 greatest hits album, The Best of Branigan. Swedish pop singer Cecilia Vennersten sang a Swedish version of the song, "Sjunde himlen finns", included on her 1995 album Cecilia Vennersten.
A dance version of "Show Me Heaven" by Chimira peaked at number 70 on the UK Singles Chart in 1997. In 2002, Nadine Coyle performed "Show Me Heaven" on Popstars The Rivals en route to winning a spot in the group Girls Aloud. Another dance version of the song, by Saint, peaked at number 36 in 2003. In 2004, the ghotic metal band Elis recorded the song as a bonus track in its album "Dark Clouds in a Perfect Sky". Mariama Goodman recorded her own version of the song, leaked on YouTube
The AJK Jaguars was a Pakistani men's professional Twenty20 cricket team that competed in the Haier T20 League and based in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. The Jaguars played at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium and is owned by the AJK Regional Cricket Association; the AJK Jaguars were formed in 2014–15 season to represent the Azad Jammu and Kashmir in the national tournament. The 2014-15 tournament was a terrible tournament for them as they lost all four matches in their group coming last and therefore got eliminated from the tournament; the 2015-16 tournament was not a good one as out of the three matches they played, they only won one match and lost the other two matches coming third. They had the same number of points as Quetta Bears but had a worse Net run rate so they came third and got eliminated once more; this would be their last season. The Likhud Brothers were two Greek monks from Cephalonia who founded and managed the Slavic Greek Latin Academy in Moscow between 1685 and 1694. Their names were Ioannikios Leichoudes or Ioannikii Likhud and Sophronios Leichoudes or Sofronii Likhud; the brothers received their education at the Padua University in Italy. Patriarch Dositheos II of Jerusalem persuaded them to visit Moscow where they were given a warm welcome by Prince Vasily Galitzine. On their arrival they were allowed to establish the Slavic Greek Latin Academy on the premises of Zaikonospassky Monastery in Kitay-Gorod, it was the first high school in Russia. The Likhuds authored a series of bilingual manuals and guidebooks on philosophy, logic and poetics; the Muscovites regarded these books as a novelty, although they regurgitated the ancient Aristotelian tenets. In the dispute between the pro-Latin and pro-Greek scholars the Likhuds supported the latter, their opponents included Symeon of Sylvester Medvedev. In 1688 the elder brother was sent on a diplomatic mission to Venice.
After Galitzine's fall from grace the Likhud brothers were removed from the academy on charges of "latinism". Following a brief exile at the Hypatian Monastery in Kostroma, the brothers moved their educational activities to Novgorod. After Ioannikios' death in 1717 Sophronios was sent to administer the Solotcha Monastery near Ryazan where he was taunted by the brethren and had to confine himself to his cell; the Likhud Brothers are remembered as the pioneers of higher education in Russia. "Steel and Glass" is a song written and performed by John Lennon, released on his 1974 album Walls and Bridges. A dark folk song, it has been interpreted as an attack on Lennon's former business manager Allen Klein but Lennon was in fact addressing the song to himself, in a similar fashion to The Beatles' track Nowhere Man; the song contains a lick performed by violins and horns in the chorus that's reminiscent of Lennon's song "How Do You Sleep?", an attack on his former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney. In 1973, before work began on Mind Games, John Lennon recorded an acoustic demo of "Steel and Glass". While Lennon's ideas were taking shape, it was based on a single piano chord – from the final studio recording. Before recording Walls and Bridges in July 1974, Lennon spent around 10 days in pre-production at Sunset Studios and Record Plant East, New York. During this time he rehearsed a few songs with the musicians he had recruited for the sessions. Lennon admitted to a Detroit radio station, during an interview in 1974, that he reused "licks" from a certain song, in response to the interviewer bringing up the similarity of "Steel and Glass", what he was wondering could be a second part to the Paul McCartney dig "How Do You Sleep?"
An alternative take of "Steel and Glass" was included on the posthumous collection Menlove Ave. released in 1986. Take 8 was released on the 1998 box set John Lennon Anthology. Take 9 was the master used for Walls and Bridges. In a contemporary mixed review for Walls and Bridges, Ben Gerson of Rolling Stone found "Steel and Glass" "boring and needless" but added that "its unalloyed hatred is peculiarly compatible with the optimism of." Writing for the same magazine in 2010, David Fricke named "Steel and Glass" as one of Lennon's most underappreciated songs, stating that the strings sound "like piercing needles" and "the phasing on Lennon's voice makes him sound like a hissing snake."Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called "Steel and Glass" one of the "best moments" on Walls and Bridges, praising how Lennon opens up with his emotions on the song. The song was covered by American rock band Candlebox on the tribute album Working Class Hero: A Tribute to John Lennon. Anglo-Swedish rock band Alberta Cross have covered the song.
