Starsky & Hutch (film)

Starsky & Hutch is a 2004 American crime-action buddy cop comedy film directed by Todd Phillips. The film stars Ben Stiller as David Starsky and Owen Wilson as Ken Hutch Hutchinson and is a adaptation of the original television series of the same name from the 1970s. Two streetwise undercover cops in the city of Bay City, California in the 1970s, bust drug criminals with the help of underworld boss. The film functions as a sort of prequel to the TV series, the film also switches the personalities of the title characters. While in the TV show, Starsky was curious and streetwise, and Hutch was by-the-book, in the film, Starsky is the serious cop, there are four Frat Pack members in this film, although not all are in major roles. The exterior of the Metropolitan Courthouse at 1945 S. Hill St. in Los Angeles was used as the Bay City Police Headquarters, the movie takes place in the 1970s. The story centers around two cops who work for the Bay City Police Department, the two cops are made partners, almost as punishment for their recent shenanigans. Meanwhile, Jewish-American drug kingpin, Reese Feldman, and his partner-in-crime and they have developed a new type of cocaine which is untraceable in scent and taste. When Feldman finds out one of his drug pushers failed a drug transport operation, he kills him. Starsky and Hutch are called to the scene where the body of the murdered pusher washes up a few days later, a clue from the dead man leads them to Feldmans house for questioning. Feldman denies any knowledge of the crime and states his regret for the mans death, during questioning Hutch admires Feldmans boat, to which Feldman replies Its a yacht. After meeting cheerleaders, Stacey and Holly, they learn from another cheerleader, Heather and their street-wise, underworld contact, Huggy Bear directs the two to a motorcycle bar operated by Big Earl. Starsky and Hutch go undercover to the bar dressed as the characters Captain America, discovering Big Earl is in jail, they go to the prison to speak with Big Earl, who has connections with Feldmans drug business. Big Earl, who is implied to be gay and has an obsession with dragons and he gives them a packet of what they think is cocaine. When it is taken to the lab for testing, Doby, their captain, angered and humiliated about their interview tells them it is artificial sweetener and takes them off the floater assignment. The duo invite Stacy and Holly to Starskys place where Starsky puts the sweetener in his coffee while Hutch sings Dont Give Up on Us. Starsky, Hutch, Stacey, and Holly go to a disco where Starsky, while suffering the effects of the drug, challenges an arrogant dancer to a dance off, Hutch takes him home and proceeds to have a threesome with Holly and Stacey. Feldman continues to be the suspect of the duos investigation, after they are assaulted by an Asian dealer and his knife-throwing son

Starsky & Hutch is a vehicular combat video game based on the television series of the same name. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, a sequel was in development and announced at E32004 but it was cancelled before it was released. The game follows the adventures of David Michael Starsky and Kenneth Hutch Hutchinson as they clean up Bay City in their Gran Torino. The game features multiplayer gameplay, in which one player controls Starsky as he drives the car whilst another controls Hutch as he shoots enemies and obstacles. These can be performed with various steering wheel and lightgun peripherals, in single player, players can drive as Starsky with shooting either set to free or auto aim. The game consists of three consisting of several episodes. In each episode, players need to complete objectives, such as chasing down criminals or escorting other vehicles, the game has a 70s style presentation and features the original voice of Huggy Bear, Antonio Fargas. David Soul

David Soul is an American-British actor and singer. He is known for his role as Detective Kenneth Hutch Hutchinson in the ABC television series Starsky & Hutch from 1975 to 1979 and he became a British citizen in 2004. Soul was born David Richard Solberg in Chicago, Illinois, on August 28,1943, dr. Solberg was also Senior Representative for Lutheran World Relief during the reconstruction of Germany after the Second World War from 1949 until 1956. Because of this, the family moved frequently while Soul was growing up, both of his grandfathers were evangelists. Soul attended Augustana College, University of the Americas in Mexico City, at 19, he turned down a professional baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox in order to study political science. While in Mexico, inspired by students who taught him to play the guitar, Soul changed his direction and his first appearance upon returning from Mexico to the States was in a club in Minneapolis, The 10 OClock Scholar. Soul first gained attention as the Covered Man appearing on The Merv Griffin Show in 1966 and 1967 and he explained, My name is David Soul, and I want to be known for my music. The same year, he made his debut in Flipper. The series was telecast on the ABC network from September 25,1968 to September 18,1970, in 1972 he co-starred as Arthur Hills law partner on Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law. Following numerous guest-starring roles on TV, including Streets of San Francisco and his breakthrough came when he portrayed Detective Ken Hutch Hutchinson on Starsky and Hutch, a role he played from 1975 until 1979. Soul also directed three episodes of Starsky and Hutch, Huggy Cant Go Home, Manchild on the Streets, and Survival. Soul also starred with James Mason in the 1979 TV miniseries adaptation of Stephen Kings Salems Lot, during the mid- to late-1970s, Soul returned to his singing roots. Produced by Tony Macaulay, he recorded hits including Dont Give Up on Us which reached No.1 in the US and the UK, from 1976 until 1978, he had five UK Top 20 singles and two Top 10 albums. From 1976 to 1982 he toured extensively in the US, Europe, Far East, in the U. S. he continued to make guest appearances in various television series. He starred in The Manions of America as Caleb Staunton in 1981 and he starred in the short-lived 1983 NBC series Casablanca, playing nightclub owner Rick Blaine, and co-starred in the NBC series The Yellow Rose during the 1983-1984 season. He also starred in the adaptation of Ken Folletts wartime drama The Key to Rebecca directed by David Hemmings. Soul also directed the episode No Exit of the 1980s TV series Miami Vice, in 1987 Soul was cast as Major Oldham in the movie The Hanoi Hilton. Paul Michael Glaser is an American actor and director perhaps best known for his role as Detective David Starsky on the 1970s television series, Starsky & Hutch. Glaser also appeared as Captain Jack Steeper on the NBC series Third Watch from 2004 to 2005, Glaser, raised in a moderate Jewish family, is the youngest of three children. He was born Paul Manfred Glaser in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Dorothy and Samuel Glaser, Glaser attended the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and he earned a second masters degree from Boston University in acting and directing in 1967. After appearing in several Broadway productions, Glaser appeared in his first feature film in 1971, after having appeared as an extra on NBCs The Doctors, he was cast in the contract role of Dr. It ran for four seasons on ABC, after the series, Glaser continued to act on television and in films, and directed the 1987 movie The Running Man starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as the 1992 movie The Cutting Edge. He also directed episodes of several well-known TV series, including Miami Vice, Robbery Homicide Division and he also directed the childrens film Kazaam starring Shaquille ONeal. On November 30,2007, Glaser starred as Captain Hook in a version of Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldnt Grow Up at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, Kent. He took the role in the 2008 pantomime season at Sunderlands Empire Theatre. Ariel Glaser died in August 1988, Elizabeth Meyer died in 1994, after co-founding the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation with friends Susan DeLaurentis, Glaser married producer Tracy Barone in 1996, the couple had a daughter, Zoe, on 7 October 1997. Antonio Juan Fargas is an American actor known for his roles in 1970s blaxploitation movies, as well as his portrayal of Huggy Bear in the 1970s TV series Starsky & Hutch. Fargas was born in New York City to Mildred and Manuel Fargas and his father was a Puerto Rican who worked for the City of New York. His mother was from Trinidad and Tobago and his breakout role began in the late 1960s comedy, Putney Swope, today a cult film. He appeared in ABCs All My Children in the mid-1980s as the father of Angie Hubbard. As a nod to his roles, he had a part in the 1988 blaxploitation spoof Im Gonna Git You Sucka, as well as another Wayans brothers hood parody, Dont Be a Menace. He guest starred in the mid-1990s sitcoms Living Single, Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Fargas played the driver in the 1998 music video of Backstreet Boys hit Everybody. Some notable appearances on British television shows include participating in series 4 of the reality series Im a Celebrity. Get Me Out of Here, in 2004 and an appearance on Frank Sidebottoms Proper Telly Show in early 2006. He played the part of Toledo in a revival of August Wilsons Ma Raineys Black Bottom at the Royal Exchange Theatre and he had a regular role as Doc on the 2005-2009 television series Everybody Hates Chris. In 2008 Fargas acted in the British boxing film Sucker Punch, Fargas appeared on an episode of Foxs Lie to Me as the father of a murdered firefighter. Fargass son Justin Fargas, a University of Southern California alumnus, was the running back for the NFL team the Oakland Raiders. Aaron Spelling was an American film and television producer. Some of his successes include the TV programs Charlies Angels, The Love Boat, Dynasty, forbes ranked him the 11th top-earning deceased celebrity in 2009. Spelling was born in Dallas, Texas and he was the son of Pearl and David Spelling, who were Jewish immigrants from Poland. His father worked as a tailor and changed his surname from Spurling to Spelling after immigrating to the United States, Spelling had three brothers, Sam, Max, and Daniel, and a sister, Becky. At the age of eight, Spelling psychosomatically lost the use of his legs due to trauma caused by constant bullying from his schoolmates, after attending Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, he served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II. Spelling later graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1949, where he was a cheerleader and he married actress Carolyn Jones in 1953, in California. Spelling married Candy Gene in 1968, the couple had daughter Tori in 1973 and son Randy in 1978. In 1988, Spelling bought the 6-acre property of Bing Crosbys former Los Angeles house and he demolished the property and built a 123-room home on the lot in 1991. Known as The Manor, it has 56,500 square feet of space and is the largest single-family home in Los Angeles. Spellings widow Candy listed the home for sale in 2008 for $150 million, Spelling made his first appearance as an actor in a film as Harry Williams in Vicki, directed by Harry Horner, in 1953. That same year, he appeared in the TV series I Led Three Lives, of the 149 episodes in that series, he wrote no fewer than twenty of the teleplays and produced a significant number of others. Spelling founded Spelling Entertainment in 1972 and he produced the unsuccessful situation comedy The San Pedro Beach Bums in 1977. In 2001, Spelling was diagnosed with oral cancer, on June 23,2006, Spelling died at The Manor, his estate in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, from complications of a stroke he suffered five days prior. A private funeral was held days later, and Spelling was entombed in a mausoleum in Culver Citys Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery. On April 4,2007, it was announced that 7th Heavens May 13,2007 the episode before the finale would be dedicated to Aaron Spelling. Columbia Pictures Television was launched in 1974 by Columbia Pictures as an American television production and distribution studio. The second name of the Columbia Pictures television division Screen Gems, the studio changed its name on May 6,1974 and was suggested by David Gerber. As the successor in interest to Screen Gems, it assumed productions of the soap operas Days of Our Lives and The Young. Its first produced series is the sitcom Thats My Mama and it was originally slated to be a Screen Gems production. Columbia TriStar Television was an American television studio that was active from 1994 to 2002. After the merger, Columbia Pictures Television Distribution was renamed as Columbia TriStar Television Distribution, expanding its television library in 1994, SPE acquired Stewart Television. Its global subsidiary, Columbia TriStar International Television, distributed Sonys programs across the globe and it was created in 1992 by merging Columbia Pictures International Television with TriStar Television. This was also the launch of the Columbia TriStar Television Group a year later, in 1996, CTT launched their own animation division, Columbia TriStar Childrens Television. The name was changed in 1997 to Adelaide Productions, within dismantling of Columbia Pictures Television in 2001 and TriStar Television in 1999, these studios were folded into Columbia TriStar Television. The network is headquartered on Columbus Avenue and West 66th Street in Manhattan, New York City. There are additional offices and production facilities elsewhere in New York City, as well as in Los Angeles and Burbank. Since 2007, when ABC Radio was sold to Citadel Broadcasting, ABC originally launched on October 12,1943, as a radio network, separated from and serving as the successor to the NBC Blue Network, which had been purchased by Edward J. Noble. It extended its operations to television in 1948, following in the footsteps of established broadcast networks CBS, in the mid-1950s, ABC merged with United Paramount Theatres, a chain of movie theaters that formerly operated as a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures. Leonard Goldenson, who had been the head of UPT, made the new television network profitable by helping develop, in 1996, most of Capital Cities/ABCs assets were purchased by The Walt Disney Company. The television network has eight owned-and-operated and over 232 affiliated television stations throughout the United States, most Canadians have access to at least one U. S. ABC News provides news and features content for radio stations owned by Citadel Broadcasting. In the 1930s, radio in the United States was dominated by three companies, the Columbia Broadcasting System, the Mutual Broadcasting System and the National Broadcasting Company. The last was owned by electronics manufacturer Radio Corporation of America, in 1938, the FCC began a series of investigations into the practices of radio networks and published its report on the broadcasting of network radio programs in 1940. The report recommended that RCA give up control of either NBC Red or NBC Blue, at that time, the NBC Red Network was the principal radio network in the United States and, according to the FCC, RCA was using NBC Blue to eliminate any hint of competition. Once Mutuals appeals against the FCC were rejected, RCA decided to sell NBC Blue in 1941, the newly separated NBC Red and NBC Blue divided their respective corporate assets. Investment firm Dillon, Read & Co. offered $7.5 million to purchase the network, Edward John Noble, the owner of Life Savers candy, drugstore chain Rexall and New York City radio station WMCA, purchased the network for $8 million. Due to FCC ownership rules, the transaction, which was to include the purchase of three RCA stations by Noble, would require him to resell his station with the FCCs approval, the Commission authorized the transaction on October 12,1943. Soon afterward, the Blue Network was purchased by the new company Noble founded, Noble subsequently acquired the rights to the American Broadcasting Company name from George B. Meanwhile, in August 1944, the West Coast division of the Blue Network, both stations were then managed by Don Searle, the vice-president of the Blue Networks West Coast division. The ABC Radio Network created its audience slowly, the network also became known for such suspenseful dramas as Sherlock Holmes, Gang Busters and Counterspy, as well as several mid-afternoon youth-oriented programs. Monaural or monophonic sound reproduction is intended to be heard as if it were a single channel of sound perceived as coming from one position. Monaural recordings, like stereo, customarily use multiple microphones, fed into multiple channels on a recording console, in some cases the multitrack source is mixed down to a one track tape becoming one signal. However, today monaural recordings are usually mastered to be played on stereo and multi-track formats, monaural sound has been replaced by stereo sound in most entertainment applications. However, it remains the standard for communications, telephone networks. A few FM radio stations, particularly talk radio shows, choose to broadcast in monaural, as a monaural signal has a slight advantage in signal strength over a stereophonic signal of the same power. Monaural sound is normal on, Phonograph cylinders Disc records made before 1958, such as made for playing at a speed of 78 rpm and earlier 16 2⁄3, 33 1⁄3. Some FM radio stations that broadcast only spoken word or talk radio content in order to maximize their coverage area, examples of this would be the CBC Radio One stations on the FM dial. Sometimes listeners will not be convinced that the signal is strong since there is no ST or STEREO LED lit, subcarrier signals for FM radio, which carry leased content such as background music for businesses or a radio reading service for the blind. Background music services such as Seeburg 1000, satellite broadcasts by Muzak as well as the public systems such services are intended to be used with. At various times artists have preferred to work in mono, either in recognition of the limitations of the equipment of the era or because of simple preference. Many of Stanley Kubrick and Woody Allens movies were recorded in mono because of their directors preferences, monaural LP records were eventually phased out and no longer manufactured after the early 1970s, with a few exceptions. For example, Decca UK had a few double issues until the end of 1970-the last one being Tom Joness I Who Have Nothing, during the 1960s it was common for albums to be released as both monaural LPs and stereo LPs, occasionally with slight differences between the two. This was because many people owned mono record players that were incapable of playing stereo records, on 9 September 2009, The Beatles re-released a remastered box set of their mono output spanning the Please Please Me album to The Beatles. The set, simply called The Beatles in Mono, also includes a summary of the mono singles, B-sides. Also included were five tracks originally mixed for an unissued mono Yellow Submarine EP, Bob Dylan followed suit on October 19,2010 with The Original Mono Recordings, a box set featuring the mono releases from Bob Dylan to John Wesley Harding. When the initial run of the box set sold out, no more were pressed, unlike the Beatles, sometimes mono sound or monaural can simply refer to a merged pair of stereo channels - also known as collapsed stereo or folded-down stereo. Over time some devices have used mono sound amplification circuitry with two or more speakers since it can cut the cost of the hardware, some consumer electronics with stereo RCA outputs have a microswitch in the red RCA output that disables merging of stereo sound into the white RCA output. It may be a single production, or more commonly, a series of related productions. A limited number of episodes of a show may be called a miniseries or a serial or limited series. Television series are without a fixed length and are divided into seasons or series. While there is no defined length, U. S. industry practice has traditionally favored longer television seasons than those of other countries, a one-time broadcast may be called a special, or particularly in the UK a special episode. A television film is a film that is initially broadcast on television rather than released in theaters or direct-to-video, a program can be either recorded, as on video tape, other various electronic media forms, played with an on-demand player or viewed on live television. Television programs may be fictional, or non-fictional and it may be topical, or historical. They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy, a drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures, except for soap opera-type serials, many shows especially before the 1980s, remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little. If some change happened to the characters lives during the episode, because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order. Since the 1980s, there are series that feature progressive change to the plot. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time television series to have this kind of dramatic structure. While the later series, Babylon 5 is an example of such production that had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run. In 2012, it was reported that television was growing into a component of major media companies revenues than film. Some also noted the increase in quality of television programs. When a person or company decides to create a new series, they develop the elements, consisting of the concept, the characters, the crew. Then they offer it to the networks in an attempt to find one interested enough to order a prototype first episode of the series. They want very much to get the word out on what types of shows they’re looking for, to create the pilot, the structure and team of the whole series must be put together. If the network likes the pilot, they pick up the show to air it the next season, sometimes they save it for mid-season, or request rewrites and further review

Metromedia

Metromedia was a media company that owned radio and television stations in the United States from 1956 to 1986 and controlled Orion Pictures from 1988 to 1997. The company arose from the ashes of the DuMont Television Network, DuMont had been in economic trouble throughout its existence, and seriously undermined when ABC accepted a buyout offer from United Paramount Theaters in 1953. The ABC-UPT deal gave ABC the resources to operate a television service along the lines of CBS. DuMont officials quickly realized the ABC-UPT deal put their network on life support, however, it was forced to back out of the deal when minority owner Paramount Pictures raised antitrust concerns. UPT had only spun off from Paramount four years earlier, by 1955, DuMont realized it could not compete against the other three networks and decided to wind down its operations. C. to shareholders as the DuMont Broadcasting Corporation. The companys headquarters were co-located with WABD in the former DuMont Tele-Centre in New York, the following year, Paramount sold its shares in Metropolitan Broadcasting to Washington-based investor John Kluge, enough to give Kluge controlling interest. Kluge installed himself as chairman, and later increased his holdings to 75 percent, wABDs call letters were later changed to WNEW-TV to match its new radio sisters. In 1961 Metropolitan purchased KMBC-AM-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, later that year the companys name was changed to Metromedia, the Metropolitan Broadcasting name was retained for its broadcasting division until 1967. In separate 1963 deals the company expanded into Los Angeles, buying first KTTV and later KLAC, the company would later engineer a swap of FM facilities, the second KLAC-FM was established in 1965. Metromedia also entered the realm of entertainment by purchasing the Ice Capades. Later in the decade Metromedia opened a production center in Los Angeles, known as Metromedia Square. Metromedia also owned a TV production and distribution company called Metromedia Producers Corporation, MPC produced and syndicated various programs and TV movies, most notably the game show Truth or Consequences and the 1972-86 version of The Merv Griffin Show. Metromedia spent the 1970s and the first half of the 1980s increasing its television and radio station portfolio, Metromedia entered the record business in 1969 with the launch of the Metromedia Records label, whose biggest-selling artist was Bobby Sherman. The label was notable as having issued the first two studio albums of Peter Allen, Peter Allen and Tenterfield Saddler. The label was closed as of 1974, allens Tenterfield Saddler, the title song of which has become an Australian standard, was acquired and reissued by A&M Records in 1978. Two years later, John Kluge bought out Metromedias shareholders and took the company private, on May 6,1985, Kluge announced the sale of Metromedias television stations, and Metromedia Producers Corp. to News Corporation and 20th Century Fox Film Corporation for $3.5 billion. With the exception of WCVB-TV, all of the former Metromedia stations formed the nucleus of the Fox Broadcasting Company, the transactions became official on March 6,1986. The Metromedia name has lived on in other projects by Kluge such as the Metromedia Restaurant Group, the callsign of radio station WMMR in Philadelphia first stood for MetroMedia Radio

Southern California, often abbreviated as SoCal, is a geographic and cultural region that generally comprises Californias 10 southernmost counties. The region is described as eight counties, based on demographics and economic ties, Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara. The more extensive 10-county definition, which includes Kern and San Luis Obispo counties, is used and is based on historical political divisions. Southern California is an economic center for the state of California. The 8-county and 10-county definitions are not used for the greater Southern California Megaregion, the megaregions area is more expansive, extending east into Las Vegas, Nevada and south across the Mexican border into Tijuana.5 million people. With over 22 million people, Southern California contains roughly 60 percent of Californias population, located east of Southern California is the Colorado Desert and the Colorado River at the border with Arizona. The Mojave Desert is located at the border with the state of Nevada while towards the south is the Mexico–United States border, within Southern California are two major cities, Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as three of the countrys largest metropolitan areas. With a population of 3,792,621, Los Angeles is the most populous city in California and the second most populous in the United States. South of Los Angeles and with a population of 1,307,402 is San Diego, the second most populous city in the state and the eighth most populous in the nation. The counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Riverside are the five most populous in the state, the motion picture, television, and music industry are centered in the Los Angeles area in Southern California. Hollywood, a district within Los Angeles, gives its name to the American motion picture industry, headquartered in Southern California are The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures, Universal, MGM, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Brothers. Universal, Warner Brothers, and Sony also run major record companies, Southern California is also home to a large homegrown surf and skateboard culture. Companies such as Vans, Volcom, Quiksilver, No Fear, RVCA, some of the worlds biggest action sports events, including the X Games, Boost Mobile Pro, and the U. S. Open of Surfing, are all held in Southern California. Southern California is also important to the world of yachting, the annual Transpacific Yacht Race, or Transpac, from Los Angeles to Hawaii, is one of yachtings premier events. The San Diego Yacht Club held the Americas Cup, the most prestigious prize in yachting, from 1988 to 1995, Southern California is home to many sports franchises and sports networks such as Fox Sports Net. Many locals and tourists frequent the Southern California coast for its popular beaches, the desert city of Palm Springs is popular for its resort feel and nearby open spaces. Brooklyn is the most populous borough of New York City, with a Census-estimated 2,636,735 residents in 2015. It borders the borough of Queens at the end of Long Island. Today, if New York City dissolved, Brooklyn would rank as the third-most populous city in the U. S. behind Los Angeles, the borough continues, however, to maintain a distinct culture. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves, Brooklyns official motto, displayed on the Borough seal and flag, is Eendraght Maeckt Maght which translates from early modern Dutch as Unity makes strength. Since 2010, Brooklyn has evolved into a hub of entrepreneurship and high technology startup firms. The history of European settlement in Brooklyn spans more than 350 years, the neighborhood of Marine Park was home to North Americas first tidal mill. It was built by the Dutch, and the foundation can be seen today, however, the area was not formally settled as a town. Many incidents and documents relating to this period are in Gabriel Furmans early compilation, what is today Brooklyn left Dutch hands after the final English conquest of New Netherland in 1664, a prelude to the Second Anglo–Dutch War. The English reorganized the six old Dutch towns on southwestern Long Island as Kings County on November 1,1683 and this tract of land was recognized as a political entity for the first time, and the municipal groundwork was laid for a later expansive idea of Brooklyn identity. On August 27,1776 was fought the Battle of Long Island, the first major engagement fought in the American Revolutionary War after independence was declared, and the largest of the entire conflict. British troops forced Continental Army troops under George Washington off the heights near the sites of Green-Wood Cemetery, Prospect Park. The fortified American positions at Brooklyn Heights consequently became untenable and were evacuated a few days later, One result of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 was the evacuation of the British from New York City, celebrated by residents into the 20th century. The New York Navy Yard operated in Wallabout Bay for the entire 19th century, the first center of urbanization sprang up in the Town of Brooklyn, directly across from Lower Manhattan, which saw the incorporation of the Village of Brooklyn in 1817. Reliable steam ferry service across the East River to Fulton Landing converted Brooklyn Heights into a town for Wall Street. Ferry Road to Jamaica Pass became Fulton Street to East New York, Town and Village were combined to form the first, kernel incarnation of the City of Brooklyn in 1834. Industrial deconcentration in mid-century was bringing shipbuilding and other manufacturing to the part of the county. Each of the two cities and six towns in Kings County remained independent municipalities, and purposely created non-aligning street grids with different naming systems and it later became the most popular and highest circulation afternoon paper in America. The United States Armed Forces are the federal armed forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, from the time of its inception, the military played a decisive role in the history of the United States. A sense of unity and identity was forged as a result of victory in the First Barbary War. Even so, the Founders were suspicious of a permanent military force and it played an important role in the American Civil War, where leading generals on both sides were picked from members of the United States military. Not until the outbreak of World War II did a standing army become officially established. The National Security Act of 1947, adopted following World War II and during the Cold Wars onset, the U. S. military is one of the largest militaries in terms of number of personnel. It draws its personnel from a pool of paid volunteers. As of 2016, the United States spends about $580.3 billion annually to fund its military forces, put together, the United States constitutes roughly 40 percent of the worlds military expenditures. For the period 2010–14, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute found that the United States was the worlds largest exporter of major arms, the United States was also the worlds eighth largest importer of major weapons for the same period. The history of the U. S. military dates to 1775 and these forces demobilized in 1784 after the Treaty of Paris ended the War for Independence. All three services trace their origins to the founding of the Continental Army, the Continental Navy, the United States President is the U. S. militarys commander-in-chief. Rising tensions at various times with Britain and France and the ensuing Quasi-War and War of 1812 quickened the development of the U. S. Navy, the reserve branches formed a military strategic reserve during the Cold War, to be called into service in case of war. Time magazines Mark Thompson has suggested that with the War on Terror, Command over the armed forces is established in the United States Constitution. The sole power of command is vested in the President by Article II as Commander-in-Chief, the Constitution also allows for the creation of executive Departments headed principal officers whose opinion the President can require. This allowance in the Constitution formed the basis for creation of the Department of Defense in 1947 by the National Security Act, the Defense Department is headed by the Secretary of Defense, who is a civilian and member of the Cabinet. The Defense Secretary is second in the chain of command, just below the President. Duluth /dəˈluːθ/ is a major port city in the U. S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Saint Louis County. Duluth has a population of 86,110 and is the second-largest city on Lake Superiors shores, after Thunder Bay, Ontario, in Canada, the Duluth MSA had a population of 279,771 in 2010, the second-largest in Minnesota. Duluth forms an area with neighboring Superior, Wisconsin, called the Twin Ports. The cities share the Duluth–Superior harbor and together are the Great Lakes largest port, transporting coal, iron ore, the city is also the starting point for vehicle trips along Minnesotas North Shore. The city is named for Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut, the Anishinaabe, also known as the Ojibwe or Chippewa, have inhabited the Lake Superior region for more than 500 years. They were preceded by the Dakota, Fox, Menominee, Nipigon, Noquet and Gros Ventre peoples, after the arrival of Europeans, the Anishinaabe found a niche as the middlemen between the French fur traders and other Native peoples. They soon became the dominant Indian nation in the region, forcing out the Dakota Sioux and Fox, by the mid-18th century, the Ojibwe occupied all of Lake Superiors shores. For both the Ojibwe and the Dakota, interaction with Europeans during the period revolved around the fur trade. The Ojibwe are historically known for their crafting of birch bark canoes, use of arrow points. In 1745, they adopted guns from the British for use against the Dakota nation of the Sioux, the Ojibwe Nation was the first to set the agenda with European-Canadian leaders for signing more detailed treaties before many European settlers were allowed too far west. Duluths name in Ojibwe is Onigamiinsing, a reference to the small, the Stopping Places were the places the Native Americans occupied during their westward migration as the Europeans overran their territory. Several factors brought fur traders to the Great Lakes in the early 17th century, the fashion for beaver hats in Europe generated demand for pelts. Étienne Brûlé is credited with the European discovery of Lake Superior before 1620, pierre-Esprit Radisson and Médard des Groseilliers explored the Duluth area, Fond du Lac in 1654 and again in 1660. The French soon established fur posts near Duluth and in the far north where Grand Portage became a trading center. The French explorer Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut, whose name is anglicized as DuLuth. The first post was where Superior, Wisconsin, later developed, known as Fort Saint Louis, the post became the headquarters for North Wests new Fond du Lac Department. It had stockaded walls, two houses of 40 feet each, a shed of 60 feet, a warehouse. Zebra Three

The Zebra part of their call sign refers to them being a geographic patrol unit assigned to a special detail, however, the LAPD normally does this with uniformed officers. Several Los Angeles locations were used for Bay City, and uniformed officers were seen wearing BCPD shoulder patches. Originally, the creator, William Blinn, was to have Starsky drive a green. When production started on the pilot, Ford Motor Companys studio-TV car loan program was the supplier for Spelling-Goldberg Productions that year. Producers looked at lease stock and chose two 351 Windsor V8-powered Bright Red 2-door Gran Torinos to portray Starskys automobile, the cars were equipped with chrome exterior rearview mirrors and protective black vinyl bodyside moldings, and the interiors were black with vinyl bench seats. On top of the factory paint the distinctive white stripe with bordering black pinstripe was applied. The Torinos had their rear ends lifted by air shocks and were equipped with U. S. brand 5-slot aluminum wheels with larger rear tires plus a tip on the exhaust pipe. They also replaced the original 2.75 to 1 rear axle gearing with numerically higher gears for better acceleration during stunt driving scenes, this was done during all four seasons to the S-G Torinos. Engine sounds were dubbed into the soundtrack since the Torinos were mechanically stock. When the pilot was successful, Spelling-Goldberg ordered two new 1975 Torinos for the first season, due to the success of the series, Ford produced 1,000 limited edition replicas of the Starsky and Hutch Torino from March to May 1976 at the Chicago assembly plant. Spelling-Goldberg leased one for a vehicle, it was known as Unit 129. During the series run, several 1974 to 1976 Gran Torinos were used as stunt cars to minimize damage, while Spelling-Goldberg was happy with the Torinos, the stars were not so pleased. In fact, when Aaron Spelling showed Glaser his characters car and his initial reply was its red. When interviewed about the Torino, which became the de facto third star, Glaser had no qualms about saying he did not like the car at all

Ford Torino

The Ford Torino is an automobile which was produced by Ford for the North American market between 1968 and 1976. It was a competitor in the market segment. The car was named after the city of Turin, considered the Italian Detroit, the Torino was initially an upscale variation of the intermediate sized Ford Fairlane, which Ford produced between 1955 and 1970. After 1968, the Fairlane name was retained for the models with lower levels of trim than those models which wore the Torino name. During this time, the Torino was considered a subseries to the Fairlane, by 1970 Torino had become the primary name for Fords intermediate, and the Fairlane was now a subseries of the Torino. In 1971 the Fairlane name was dropped altogether, and all Ford intermediates were called Torino and this name was one of several originally proposed for the Mustang while in development. The Torino was essentially a twin to the Mercury Montego line, most Torinos were conventional cars, and generally the most popular models were the 4-door sedans and 2-door hardtops. However, Ford produced some versions of the Torino by fitting them with large powerful engines. These cars are classified as muscle cars, Ford also chose the Torino as the base for its NASCAR entrants, and it has a successful racing heritage. In 1968 Ford Motor Company introduced its line with a new body. Along with the new body and styling came a new subseries in the Fairlane line, the Fairlane name continued to be used for lower level models, and the Torino was considered a sub-series to the Fairlane during this time. The 1968 Fairlane and Torino used the same wheelbases as its 1967 predecessor,116 in on 2- and 4-door models, styling was all new for the 1968 Fairlane/Torino, and it was drastically changed from the 1967 models. The new intermediate had grown in size and weight, and a new model was added. The front fascia featured a full width recessed grille, with quad headlights placed at the outer edges. Horizontal dividing bars were featured in the grille depending on the model, parking lights were placed at the outer edge of the front fenders and wrapped around the corner to also act as side marker lights. The body sides were smooth with one horizontal body crease running just below the beltline from front to back, the taillights were rectangular in shape and vertically situated in the rear panel above rear bumper. Reverse lights were located in the middle of the taillights, Fastback models, which Ford called SportsRoof, featured a slightly concaved rear taillight panel unique to that body style. The new SportsRoof body style featured a gently sloped long roof line that extended to the edge of the trunk lid and this new fastback body style gave the Fairlane and the Torino excellent aerodynamics that would later prove to be advantageous on the race track

DVD is a digital optical disc storage format invented and developed by Philips, Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic in 1995. The medium can store any kind of data and is widely used for software. DVDs offer higher capacity than compact discs while having the same dimensions. Pre-recorded DVDs are mass-produced using molding machines that physically stamp data onto the DVD, such discs are a form of DVD-ROM because data can only be read and not written or erased. Blank recordable DVD discs can be recorded using a DVD recorder. Rewritable DVDs can be recorded and erased many times, DVDs containing other types of information may be referred to as DVD data discs. The OED also states that in 1995, The companies said the name of the format will simply be DVD. Toshiba had been using the name ‘digital video disk’, but that was switched to ‘digital versatile disk’ after computer companies complained that it left out their applications, Digital versatile disc is the explanation provided in a DVD Forum Primer from 2000 and in the DVD Forums mission statement. There were several formats developed for recording video on optical discs before the DVD, Optical recording technology was invented by David Paul Gregg and James Russell in 1958 and first patented in 1961. A consumer optical disc data format known as LaserDisc was developed in the United States and it used much larger discs than the later formats. CD Video used analog video encoding on optical discs matching the established standard 120 mm size of audio CDs, Video CD became one of the first formats for distributing digitally encoded films in this format, in 1993. In the same year, two new optical disc formats were being developed. By the time of the launches for both formats in January 1995, the MMCD nomenclature had been dropped, and Philips and Sony were referring to their format as Digital Video Disc. Representatives from the SD camp asked IBM for advice on the system to use for their disc. Alan E. Bell, a researcher from IBMs Almaden Research Center, got that request and this group was referred to as the Technical Working Group, or TWG. On August 14,1995, an ad hoc group formed from five computer companies issued a release stating that they would only accept a single format. The TWG voted to both formats unless the two camps agreed on a single, converged standard. They recruited Lou Gerstner, president of IBM, to pressure the executives of the warring factions, as a result, the DVD specification provided a storage capacity of 4.7 GB for a single-layered, single-sided disc and 8.5 GB for a dual-layered, single-sided disc

The Ford Galaxie was a full-sized car that was built in the United States of America by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Fords full-size range from 1958 until 1961, for 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with 500 and 500/XL denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966, the Galaxie 500 part was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967, however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The regular Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Fords mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year, the Galaxie was the high volume counterpart to the Chevrolet Impala. The similarly named Ford Galaxy is a large car/minivan available in the European market, the vehicles name is derived from the original Ford Galaxie. The 1959 Ford range was introduced in late 1958 with the Fairlane 500 as the top trim level, during the 1959 model year the Galaxie was added to the range as an additional trim level, assuming the top position from the Fairlane 500. The Galaxie was offered with the sedan and hardtop body styles as the Fairlane 500 whilst the Sunliner and Skyliner convertibles were moved across from the Fairlane 500 range. Styling varied from the Fairlane 500 with the addition of a Ford Thunderbird-style C pillar on all, although a separate series from the Fairlane 500,1959 Galaxie models carried both Fairlane 500 and Galaxie badging. In keeping with the era, the 1959 Galaxie was a chrome and it was the very image of the ostentatious late-1950s American automobiles, though somewhat tamer than its Chevrolet and Plymouth competitors. Ford advertised safety anchorage for the front seats, the parking brake was now a pedal. Seat belts, a dashboard, and child-proof rear door locks were optional, while a deep-dished steering wheel. Among the models was the Skyliner, moved upward from the Fairlane 500 model and this feature, complicated and expensive, left very little trunk room when folded down. Not until 2006, when the Pontiac G6 convertible, Peugeot 206 CC and Volkswagen Eos appeared, a fixture also was the previous years 352 V8, still developing 300 horsepower. 1960 The 1960 Galaxie introduced all-new design with less ornamentation, a new body style was the Starliner, featuring a huge, curving rear observation window on a pillarless, hardtop bodyshell. The formal roofed 2-door hardtop was not available this year, but the roofline was used for the Galaxie 2-door pillared sedan and it had been the most popular body style in the line for 1959, and sales dropped off sharply. Contrary to Fords tradition of pie-plate round taillghts, the 1960 featured half-moon lenses turned downward, the A pillar now swept forward instead of backward, making entering and exiting the car more convenient. 1961 For 1961, the bodywork was again, although the underpinnings were the same as for 1960. An informant is a person who provides privileged information about a person or organization to an agency. However, the term is used in politics, industry and academia, informants are commonly found in the world of organized crime. By its very nature, organized crime involves people who are aware of each others guilt. Quite often, someone will become an informant following their arrest, informants are also extremely common in every-day police work, including homicide and narcotics investigations. Any citizen who aids an investigation by offering information to the police is by definition an informant. Informants are often regarded as traitors by their criminal associates. Informers are therefore protected, either by being segregated while in prison or. Informants, and especially criminal informants, can be motivated by many reasons, many informants are not themselves aware of all of their reasons for providing information, but nonetheless do so. Many informants provide information while under stress, duress, emotion, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, judges and others should be aware of possible motivations so that they can properly approach, assess and verify informants information. Generally, informants motivations can be broken down into self-interest, self-preservation, elimination of competitors engaged in criminal activities. Diversion of suspicion from their own criminal activities, revenge Self-Preservation, Fear of harm from others. Conscience, Desire to go straight Guilty conscience Genuine desire to assist law enforcement, corporations and the detective agencies that sometimes represent them have historically hired labor spies to monitor or control labor organizations and their activities. Such individuals may be professionals or recruits from the workforce and they may be willing accomplices, or may be tricked into informing on their co-workers unionization efforts. Paid informants have often used by authorities within politically and socially oriented movements to weaken, destabilize. Informers alert authorities regarding government officials that are corrupt, officials may be taking bribes, or participants in a money loop also called a kickback. A private investigator, a private detective, or inquiry agent, is a person who can be hired by individuals or groups to undertake investigatory law services. Private detectives/investigators often work for attorneys in civil and criminal cases, official law enforcement tried many times to shut it down. In 1842, police arrested him in suspicion of unlawful imprisonment, Vidocq later suspected that it had been a set-up. He was sentenced to five years and fined 3, 000-francs, Vidocq is credited with having introduced record-keeping, criminology, and ballistics to criminal investigation. He made the first plaster casts of shoe impressions and he created indelible ink and unalterable bond paper with his printing company. His form of anthropometrics is still used by French police. He is also credited for philanthropic pursuits – he claimed he never informed on anyone who had stolen for real need, after Vidocq, the industry was born. Much of what private investigators did in the days was to act as the police in matters for which their clients felt the police were not equipped or willing to do. A larger role for new private investigative industry was to assist companies in labor disputes. Some early private investigators provided armed guards to act as a private militia, in the United Kingdom, Charles Frederick Field set up an enquiry office upon his retirement from the Metropolitan Police in 1852. Field became a friend of Charles Dickens, and the latter wrote articles about him, in 1862, one of his employees, the Hungarian Ignatius Paul Pollaky, left him and set up a rival agency. In the United States, Allan Pinkerton established the Pinkerton National Detective Agency - a private detective agency - in 1850, Pinkerton became famous when he foiled a plot to assassinate then President-elect Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Pinkertons agents performed services which ranged from undercover investigations and detection of crimes, to plant protection and it is sometimes claimed, probably with exaggeration, that at the height of its existence, the Pinkerton National Detective Agency employed more agents than the United States Army. Allan Pinkerton hired Kate Warne in 1856 as a private detective, during the union unrest in the US in the late 19th century, companies sometimes hired operatives and armed guards from the Pinkertons. In the aftermath of the Homestead Riot of 1892, several states passed so-called anti-Pinkerton laws restricting the importation of private security guards during union strikes. Pinkerton agents were hired to track western outlaws Jesse James, the Reno brothers, and the Wild Bunch, including Butch Cassidy. A disc jockey is a person who mixes different sources of pre-existing recorded music as it is playing, usually for a live audience in a nightclub or dance club or via broadcasting. DJs typically perform for an audience in a nightclub or dance club or a TV, radio broadcast audience, or in the 2010s. DJs also create mixes, remixes and tracks that are recorded for later sale, in hip hop music, DJs may create beats, using percussion breaks, basslines and other musical content sampled from pre-existing records. In hip hop, rappers and MCs use these beats to rap over, DJs use equipment that can play at least two sources of recorded music simultaneously and mix them together. Other DJs use turntablism techniques such as scratching, in which the DJ or turntablist manipulates the record player turntable to create new sounds. The service was created by three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim—in February 2005, Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion, YouTube now operates as one of Googles subsidiaries. Karim could not easily find video clips of either event online, Hurley and Chen said that the original idea for YouTube was a video version of an online dating service, and had been influenced by the website Hot or Not. YouTube began as a venture capital-funded technology startup, primarily from an $11.5 million investment by Sequoia Capital between November 2005 and April 2006, YouTubes early headquarters were situated above a pizzeria and Japanese restaurant in San Mateo, California. The Jeffersons is an American sitcom that was broadcast on CBS from January 18,1975, through July 2,1985, lasting 11 seasons and a total of 253 episodes. The show focuses on George and Louise Jefferson, a successful African-American couple who have moved from Queens to Manhattan following the success of Georges dry-cleaning business chain. The show was launched as the second spin-off of All in the Family, on which the Jeffersons had been the neighbors of Archie, the show was the creation of Norman Lear. The Jeffersons eventually evolved into more of a traditional sitcom but did reference such issues as alcoholism, racism, suicide, gun control, the epithets nigger and honky were used occasionally, especially during the earlier seasons. The Jeffersons had one spin-off, titled Checking In, the series was centered on the Jeffersons housekeeper, Florence. Checking In only lasted four episodes, after which Florence returned to The Jeffersons, the Jeffersons also shared continuity with the show E/R, which featured Lynne Moody, who made a guest appearance in one episode of The Jeffersons. Sherman Hemsley guest-starred as George in two episodes of the series, which lasted for one season, the Jeffersons ended in controversy after CBS abruptly canceled the series without allowing for a proper series finale. The cast was not informed until after the July 2,1985, episode Red Robins, the cast reunited in a stage play based on the sitcom. In the 1996 series finale of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in an episode of Tyler Perrys House of Payne in 2011, Sherman Hemsley and Marla Gibbs reprised their roles of George Jefferson and Florence Johnston. In 1985, Hemsley and Sanford made a special joint guest appearance in the Canale 5 comedy show Grand Hotel, starring Italian actors Paolo Villaggio, Franco & Ciccio comic duo and Carmen Russo. They were guests in the hotel, and appeared just twice during the show. Their voices were dubbed by Italian actors Enzo Garinei and Isa di Marzio, Louise Jefferson, played by Isabel Sanford, first appeared in the All in the Family episode Lionel Moves Into the Neighborhood, which was broadcast on March 2,1971. The episode, the eighth of the series, centers on Louise, her son Lionel, Lionel, played by Mike Evans, first appeared in Meet the Bunkers, the premiere episode of All in the Family. Norman Lear created the character of George Jefferson specifically for Hemsley, Lear created the character of Henry Jefferson, Georges younger brother, and replaced George with Henry in the seriess scripts until Purlie finished its run. Mel Stewart was cast as Henry, George was introduced in the episode Henrys Farewell, and Hemsley and Stewart share their only scene together in its final minutes.
