The name originated from the attitude towards supper. 等等. 過後 was their first song to achieve number 1, 無盡 repeated the feat in week 38 of 2013, and 世界變了樣 topped the RTHK chart in week 52 of 2013

Chinese personal names are names used by those from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora overseas. Prior to the 20th century, educated Chinese also utilized a courtesy name or style name called zi by which they were known among those outside of their family and closest friends. From at least the time of the Shang dynasty, the Han Chinese observed a number of naming taboos regulating who may or may not use a given name. In general, using the given name connoted the speakers authority, peers and younger relatives were barred from speaking it. Owing to this, many historical Chinese figures – particularly emperors – used a half-dozen or more different names in different contexts and those possessing names identical to the emperors were frequently forced to change them. Although some terms in the ancient Chinese naming system, such as xìng and míng, are used today, they were used in different. Commoners possessed only a name, and the modern concept of a surname or family name did not yet exist at any level of society.3 billion citizens. In modern mainland China, it is the norm that a woman keeps her name unchanged. A child usually inherits his/her fathers surname, though the law explicitly states that a child may use either parents or the grandparents. It is also possible, though far less common, for a child to both parents surnames. In the older generations, it was common for a married woman to prepend her husbands surname to her own. This practice is now almost extinct in mainland China, though there are a few such as the name change of Gu Kailai, but survives in some Hong Kong, Macau

Chinese surnames are used by Han Chinese and Sinicized ethnic groups in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and among overseas Chinese communities. In ancient times two types of surnames existed, namely xing or lineage names, and shi or clan names, Chinese family names are patrilineal, passed from father to children. Women do not normally change their surnames upon marriage, except in places with more Western influences such as Hong Kong, traditionally Chinese surnames have been exogamous. The colloquial expressions laobaixing and bǎixìng are used in Chinese to mean ordinary folks, prior to the Warring States period, only the ruling families and the aristocratic elite had surnames. Historically there was also a difference between clan names or xing and lineages names or shi, Xing were surnames held by the noble clans. They generally are composed of a nü radical which has taken by some as evidence they originated from matriarchal societies based on maternal lineages. Another hypothesis has been proposed by sinologist Léon Vandermeersch upon observation of the evolution of characters in oracular scripture from the Shang dynasty through the Zhou, the female radical seems to appear at the Zhou period next to Shang sinograms indicating an ethnic group or a tribe. This combination seems to designate specifically a female and could mean lady of such or such clan, prior to the Qin Dynasty China was largely a fengjian society. In this way, a nobleman would hold a shi and a xing, after the states of China were unified by Qin Shi Huang in 221 BC, surnames gradually spread to the lower classes and the difference between xing and shi blurred. Chen is one of the most common East Asian surnames of Chinese origin. It ranks as the 5th most common surname in China as of 2007, Chen is also the most common family name in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hong Kong. It is the most common surname in Xiamen, the hometown of many overseas Hoklo. Traditional Chinese characters
–
Traditional Chinese characters are Chinese characters in any character set that does not contain newly created characters or character substitutions performed after 1946. They are most commonly the characters in the character sets of Taiwan, of Hong Kong. Currently, a number of overseas Chinese online newspapers allow users to switch between both sets. In contrast, simplified Chinese characters are used in mainland China, Singapore, the debate on traditional and simplified Chinese characters has been a long-running issue among Chinese communities. Although simplified characters are taught and endorsed by the government of Mainland China, Traditional characters are used informally in regions in China primarily in handwriting and also used for inscriptions and religious text. They are often retained in logos or graphics to evoke yesteryear, nonetheless, the vast majority of media and communications in China is dominated by simplified characters. Taiwan has never adopted Simplified Chinese characters since it is ruled by the Republic of China, the use of simplified characters in official documents is even prohibited by the government in Taiwan. Simplified characters are not well understood in general, although some stroke simplifications that have incorporated into Simplified Chinese are in common use in handwriting. For example, while the name of Taiwan is written as 臺灣, similarly, in Hong Kong and Macau, Traditional Chinese has been the legal written form since colonial times. In recent years, because of the influx of mainland Chinese tourists, today, even government websites use simplified Chinese, as they answer to the Beijing government. This has led to concerns by residents to protect their local heritage. In Southeast Asia, the Chinese Filipino community continues to be one of the most conservative regarding simplification, while major public universities are teaching simplified characters, many well-established Chinese schools still use traditional characters. Publications like the Chinese Commercial News, World News, and United Daily News still use traditional characters, on the other hand, the Philippine Chinese Daily uses simplified. Aside from local newspapers, magazines from Hong Kong, such as the Yazhou Zhoukan, are found in some bookstores. In case of film or television subtitles on DVD, the Chinese dub that is used in Philippines is the same as the one used in Taiwan and this is because the DVDs belongs to DVD Region Code 3. Hence, most of the subtitles are in Traditional Characters, overseas Chinese in the United States have long used traditional characters. A major influx of Chinese immigrants to the United States occurred during the half of the 19th century. Simplified Chinese characters
–
Simplified Chinese characters are standardized Chinese characters prescribed in the Table of General Standard Chinese Characters for use in mainland China. Along with traditional Chinese characters, it is one of the two character sets of the contemporary Chinese written language. The government of the Peoples Republic of China in mainland China has promoted them for use in printing since the 1950s and 1960s in an attempt to increase literacy and they are officially used in the Peoples Republic of China and Singapore. Traditional Chinese characters are used in Hong Kong, Macau. Overseas Chinese communities generally tend to use traditional characters, Simplified Chinese characters may be referred to by their official name above or colloquially. Strictly, the latter refers to simplifications of character structure or body, character forms that have existed for thousands of years alongside regular, Simplified character forms were created by decreasing the number of strokes and simplifying the forms of a sizable proportion of traditional Chinese characters. Some simplifications were based on popular cursive forms embodying graphic or phonetic simplifications of the traditional forms, some characters were simplified by applying regular rules, for example, by replacing all occurrences of a certain component with a simplified version of the component. Variant characters with the pronunciation and identical meaning were reduced to a single standardized character. Finally, many characters were left untouched by simplification, and are identical between the traditional and simplified Chinese orthographies. Some simplified characters are very dissimilar to and unpredictably different from traditional characters and this often leads opponents not well-versed in the method of simplification to conclude that the overall process of character simplification is also arbitrary. In reality, the methods and rules of simplification are few, on the other hand, proponents of simplification often flaunt a few choice simplified characters as ingenious inventions, when in fact these have existed for hundreds of years as ancient variants. However, the Chinese government never officially dropped its goal of further simplification in the future, in August 2009, the PRC began collecting public comments for a modified list of simplified characters. The new Table of General Standard Chinese Characters consisting of 8,105 characters was promulgated by the State Council of the Peoples Republic of China on June 5,2013, cursive written text almost always includes character simplification. Pinyin

Pinyin, or Hànyǔ Pīnyīn, is the official romanization system for Standard Chinese in mainland China, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. It is often used to teach Standard Chinese, which is written using Chinese characters. The system includes four diacritics denoting tones, Pinyin without tone marks is used to spell Chinese names and words in languages written with the Latin alphabet, and also in certain computer input methods to enter Chinese characters. The pinyin system was developed in the 1950s by many linguists, including Zhou Youguang and it was published by the Chinese government in 1958 and revised several times. The International Organization for Standardization adopted pinyin as a standard in 1982. The system was adopted as the standard in Taiwan in 2009. The word Hànyǔ means the language of the Han people. In 1605, the Jesuit missionary Matteo Ricci published Xizi Qiji in Beijing and this was the first book to use the Roman alphabet to write the Chinese language. Twenty years later, another Jesuit in China, Nicolas Trigault, neither book had much immediate impact on the way in which Chinese thought about their writing system, and the romanizations they described were intended more for Westerners than for the Chinese. One of the earliest Chinese thinkers to relate Western alphabets to Chinese was late Ming to early Qing Dynasty scholar-official, the first late Qing reformer to propose that China adopt a system of spelling was Song Shu. A student of the great scholars Yu Yue and Zhang Taiyan, Song had been to Japan and observed the effect of the kana syllabaries. This galvanized him into activity on a number of fronts, one of the most important being reform of the script, while Song did not himself actually create a system for spelling Sinitic languages, his discussion proved fertile and led to a proliferation of schemes for phonetic scripts. The Wade–Giles system was produced by Thomas Wade in 1859, and it was popular and used in English-language publications outside China until 1979. This Sin Wenz or New Writing was much more sophisticated than earlier alphabets. In 1940, several members attended a Border Region Sin Wenz Society convention. Mao Zedong and Zhu De, head of the army, both contributed their calligraphy for the masthead of the Sin Wenz Societys new journal. Outside the CCP, other prominent supporters included Sun Yat-sens son, Sun Fo, Cai Yuanpei, the countrys most prestigious educator, Tao Xingzhi, an educational reformer. Over thirty journals soon appeared written in Sin Wenz, plus large numbers of translations, biographies, some contemporary Chinese literature, and a spectrum of textbooks

Standard Chinese

Its pronunciation is based on the Beijing dialect, its vocabulary on the Mandarin dialects, and its grammar is based on written vernacular Chinese. Like other varieties of Chinese, Standard Chinese is a language with topic-prominent organization. It has more initial consonants but fewer vowels, final consonants, Standard Chinese is an analytic language, though with many compound words. There exist two standardised forms of the language, namely Putonghua in Mainland China and Guoyu in Taiwan, aside from a number of differences in pronunciation and vocabulary, Putonghua is written using simplified Chinese characters, while Guoyu is written using traditional Chinese characters. There are many characters that are identical between the two systems, in English, the governments of China and Hong Kong use Putonghua, Putonghua Chinese, Mandarin Chinese, and Mandarin, while those of Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, use Mandarin. The name Putonghua also has a long, albeit unofficial, history and it was used as early as 1906 in writings by Zhu Wenxiong to differentiate a modern, standard Chinese from classical Chinese and other varieties of Chinese. For some linguists of the early 20th century, the Putonghua, or common tongue/speech, was different from the Guoyu. The former was a prestige variety, while the latter was the legal standard. Based on common understandings of the time, the two were, in fact, different, Guoyu was understood as formal vernacular Chinese, which is close to classical Chinese. By contrast, Putonghua was called the speech of the modern man. The use of the term Putonghua by left-leaning intellectuals such as Qu Qiubai, prior to this, the government used both terms interchangeably. In Taiwan, Guoyu continues to be the term for Standard Chinese. The term Putonghua, on the contrary, implies nothing more than the notion of a lingua franca, Huayu, or language of the Chinese nation, originally simply meant Chinese language, and was used in overseas communities to contrast Chinese with foreign languages. Over time, the desire to standardise the variety of Chinese spoken in these communities led to the adoption of the name Huayu to refer to Mandarin and it also incorporates the notion that Mandarin is usually not the national or common language of the areas in which overseas Chinese live. The term Mandarin is a translation of Guānhuà, which referred to the lingua franca of the late Chinese empire, in English, Mandarin may refer to the standard language, the dialect group as a whole, or to historic forms such as the late Imperial lingua franca. The name Modern Standard Mandarin is sometimes used by linguists who wish to distinguish the current state of the language from other northern. Chinese has long had considerable variation, hence prestige dialects have always existed. Confucius, for example, used yǎyán rather than colloquial regional dialects, rime books, which were written since the Northern and Southern dynasties, may also have reflected one or more systems of standard pronunciation during those times

Jyutping is a romanisation system for Cantonese developed by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong, an academic group, in 1993. Its formal name is The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Cantonese Romanisation Scheme, the LSHK promotes the use of this romanisation system. The name Jyutping is a contraction consisting of the first Chinese characters of the terms Jyut6jyu5, only the finals m and ng can be used as standalone nasal syllables. ^ ^ ^ Referring to the pronunciation of these words. There are nine tones in six distinct tone contours in Cantonese, however, as three of the nine are entering tones, which only appear in syllables ending with p, t, and k, they do not have separate tone numbers in Jyutping. Cantonese, or Standard Cantonese, is a variety of Chinese spoken in the city of Guangzhou in southeastern China. It is the prestige variety of Yue, one of the major subdivisions of Chinese. In mainland China, it is the lingua franca of the province of Guangdong and some neighbouring areas such as Guangxi. In Hong Kong and Macau, Cantonese serves as one of their official languages and it is also spoken amongst overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia and throughout the Western World. When Cantonese and the closely related Yuehai dialects are classified together, Cantonese is viewed as vital part of the cultural identity for its native speakers across large swathes of southeastern China, Hong Kong and Macau. Although Cantonese shares some vocabulary with Mandarin, the two varieties are mutually unintelligible because of differences in pronunciation, grammar and lexicon, sentence structure, in particular the placement of verbs, sometimes differs between the two varieties. This results in the situation in which a Cantonese and a Mandarin text may look similar, in English, the term Cantonese is ambiguous. Cantonese proper is the variety native to the city of Canton and this narrow sense may be specified as Canton language or Guangzhou language in English. However, Cantonese may also refer to the branch of Cantonese that contains Cantonese proper as well as Taishanese and Gaoyang. In this article, Cantonese is used for Cantonese proper, historically, speakers called this variety Canton speech or Guangzhou speech, although this term is now seldom used outside mainland China. In Guangdong province, people call it provincial capital speech or plain speech. In Hong Kong and Macau, as well as among overseas Chinese communities, in mainland China, the term Guangdong speech is also increasingly being used among both native and non-native speakers. Due to its status as a prestige dialect among all the dialects of the Cantonese or Yue branch of Chinese varieties, the official languages of Hong Kong are Chinese and English, as defined in the Hong Kong Basic Law. The Chinese language has different varieties, of which Cantonese is one. Given the traditional predominance of Cantonese within Hong Kong, it is the de facto official spoken form of the Chinese language used in the Hong Kong Government and all courts and it is also used as the medium of instruction in schools, alongside English. A similar situation exists in neighboring Macau, where Chinese is an official language along with Portuguese. As in Hong Kong, Cantonese is the predominant spoken variety of Chinese used in life and is thus the official form of Chinese used in the government. Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the Peoples Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the Pearl River Delta of East Asia. Macau lies across the delta to the west, and the Chinese province of Guangdong borders the territory to the north. With a total area of 1,106 square kilometres. Hong Kong was later occupied by Japan during World War II until British control resumed in 1945, under the principle of one country, two systems, Hong Kong maintains a separate political and economic system from China. Except in military defence and foreign affairs, Hong Kong maintains its independent executive, legislative, in addition, Hong Kong develops relations directly with foreign states and international organisations in a broad range of appropriate fields. Hong Kong is one of the worlds most significant financial centres, with the highest Financial Development Index score and consistently ranks as the worlds most competitive and freest economic entity. As the worlds 8th largest trading entity, its legal tender, Hong Kongs tertiary sector dominated economy is characterised by simple taxation with a competitive level of corporate tax and supported by its independent judiciary system. However, while Hong Kong has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world and it has a very high Human Development Index ranking and the worlds longest life expectancy. A cameo role or cameo appearance is a brief appearance or voice part of a known person in a work of the performing arts, typically unnamed or appearing as themselves. Short appearances by celebrities, film directors, politicians, athletes or musicians are common, a crew member of the show or movie playing a minor role can be referred to as a cameo as well, such as Alfred Hitchcocks frequently performed cameos. Originally cameo role meant a character part that stands out from the other minor parts. The Oxford English Dictionary connects this with the meaning a short literary sketch or portrait, which is based on the meaning of cameo. More recently, cameo has come to refer to any short appearances, whether as a character or as oneself, such as the examples below. Cameos are generally not credited because of their brevity, or a mismatch between the celebritys stature and the film or TV show in which he or she is appearing. Others are acknowledgments of a contribution to an earlier work, as in the case of many film adaptations of TV series. Others honour artists or celebrities known for work in a particular field, possibly the best-known series of cameos was by the director Alfred Hitchcock, who made very brief appearances in most of his films. Cameos also occur in novels and other literary works, “Literary cameos” usually involve an established character from another work who makes a brief appearance to establish a shared universe setting, to make a point, or to offer homage. Balzac often employed this practice, as in his Comédie humaine, a cameo appearance can be made by the author of a work to put a sort of personal signature on a story. Vladimir Nabokov often put himself in his novels, for instance, quentin Tarantino provides cameos or small roles in at least 10 of his movies. Likewise, Peter Jackson has made cameos in all of his movies, except for his first feature-length movie Bad Taste in which he plays a main character. In Whos That Knocking at My Door, he appears as one of the gangsters, he is a crew man in After Hours. He opens up his 1986 film The Color of Money with a monologue on the art of playing pool. In addition, he appears with his wife and daughter as wealthy New Yorkers in Gangs of New York, in a same way, Roman Polanski appears as a hired hoodlum in his film Chinatown, slitting Jack Nicholsons nose with the blade of his clasp knife. The Bride with White Hair 2 is a 1993 Hong Kong film directed by David Wu. It is the sequel to The Bride with White Hair, with Brigitte Lin and Leslie Cheung reprising their roles as Lian Nichang and Zhuo Yihang. Although the first film is based on Liang Yushengs Baifa Monü Zhuan. Lian Nichang felt betrayed by her lover, Zhuo Yihang, and has morphed into the vicious White-Haired Witch. She starts a cult which accepts women who were exploited by men and its members include Chen Yuanyuan, who was betrayed by Wu Sangui. Meanwhile, Zhuo Yihang awaits on a mountain for a rare flower to bloom. Lian Nichang vows to kill the members of the eight major martial arts sects. Feng Junjie, heir to the Wudang Sects leadership position, marries Yu Qin, on the wedding night, Lian Nichang appears and kidnaps Yu Qin, leaving behind a trail of destruction and corpses. Feng Junjie survives the massacre and plans with the survivors to infiltrate the Witchs base, meanwhile, Lian Nichang brainwashes Yu Qin through a series of rituals and makes her see her husband and the eight sects as foes. Feng Junjie and his companions confront the Witch and her followers in a battle but are defeated and only Feng and they travel to the mountain in search of Zhuo Yihang, the only person who can stop the Witch from continuing with her brutal massacres. After enduring hardship, they did not find Zhuo Yihang and decide to return to the Witchs base in a attempt to save Yu Qin. Feng Junjie is no match for Lian Nichang and is almost killed by her when Zhuo Yihang suddenly appears, Lian Nichang uses her hair to pierce through Zhuo Yihangs body, critically wounding him, but she refrains from killing him as her hatred towards him gradually subsides. Just then, Chen Yuanyuan stabs Lian Nichang for betraying the cults founding principles, causing Lian to pull her out from Zhuo Yihangs body. The film ends with the deaths of Zhuo Yihang and Lian Nichang, on the other hand, Feng Junjie is reunited with his wife, who has recovered from her trance

This is the first film to introduce the new 2010 Shaw opening theme with a version of the original fanfare. When both sworn brothers fall for Pinky and propose to her, she flips a coin heads or tails, the sworn brothers become sworn enemies and Sheks hatred fuels intense rivalry against Ha in business dealings ranging from the manufacture of plastic flowers to the selling of stinky bean curd. These ploys are minor compared with the tactics of the landlord who threatens to close down the shops unless his demands for tripled rent are met. Amidst this strife and struggle the street is hit by acid-attacks and in high spirits the 72 tenants unite, affairs of the heart yet to be resolved

Bao Zheng, commonly known as Bao Gong, was a government officer during the reign of Emperor Renzong in Chinas Song Dynasty. His appointment from 1057 to 1058 as the prefect of Songs capital Kaifeng, during his years in office, he gained the honorific title Justice Bao due to his ability to help peasants overcome corruption. Bao Zheng today is honored as the symbol of justice in Greater China. His largely fictionalized gongan and wuxia stories have appeared in a variety of different literary and dramatic mediums, in mainstream Chinese mythology, he is often portrayed wearing a judge miter hat and a crescent moon on his forehead. Some Chinese provinces later deified Judge Bao, equating him to the benevolent war god Guan Gong, Bao Zheng was born into a scholar family in Luzhou. Baos family was in the middle class, though Baos parents could afford to send him to school, his mother had to climb up mountains to collect firewood just before she gave birth to him. As Bao grew up among low working class, he well understood peoples hardships, hated corruption, at the age of 29, Bao passed the highest-level imperial examination and became qualified as a Jinshi. During the time Bao looked after his parents at home, Liu Yun, Magistrate of Luzhou who was renowned as an excellent poetic and fair-minded officer, because the two got along well, Bao obtained great influence from Liu Yun in respect of the love for people. After his parents demise, Bao Zheng, then 39, was appointed magistrate of Tianchang County not far from his hometown and it was here that Bao first established his reputation as an astute judge. According to an anecdote, a man reported that his oxs tongue had been sliced out. Bao told him to return and slaughter the ox for sale, soon another man arrived in court and accused the first man of privately slaughtering a beast of burden, an offense punishable by a year of penal servitude. Bao bellowed, Why did you cut his oxs tongue and then accuse him, in shock, the culprit had to confess. In 1040, Bao Zheng was promoted to the prefect of Duanzhou in the south, a famous for its high-quality inkstones. Bao abolished the practice by telling manufacturers to fill only the required quota, when his tenure was up in 1043, Bao left without a single inkstone in his possession. It was in Duanzhou that he wrote poem, Bao Zheng returned to the capital and was named an investigating censor in 1044. For the next 2 years in this position, Bao submitted at least 13 memoranda to Emperor Renzong of Song on military, taxation, the examination system, in 1045, Bao was sent to the Liao dynasty as a messenger. Bao retorted, Why is a side door required for intelligence, the Liao subject could not respond. Nevertheless, the concubines uncle Zhang Yaozuo was quickly promoted within a few years from local posts to high office

A Kindred Spirit was a television drama series that was broadcast on TVB Jade in Hong Kong from 15 May 1995 to 13 November 1999. It is one of the longest running shows in Hong Kong television history. Its exceptional longevity still amazes people in a city where scripted TV drama programs typically only last around 20 episodes, the total number of episodes is 1,128. Each episode airs a few days in each week, the show centres on a family who operates a barbecue pork restaurant in Happy Valley, Hong Kong, and their life. As the show progressed, more and more new characters were added into the show, the show finally ended on 13 November 1999 with a lavish farewell that included all the actors who participated in the show from past to present. The shows impact on Hong Kong culture is immense, although its influence is fading away as new series are being aired, everyone can remember the approximate arc of the story and most can sing the theme song. The impact of the show on its cast is enormous, some actors have suffered a form of curse from the series, a good example is the actor who played Ji Ho in the series. His performance on the series was so convincing and memorable that it has prevented him from playing heroes or protagonists since his run on the show ended, Kindred Spirit is shown in Hong Kong on TVBs Grand Theatre Channel, which belongs to TVBs new pay television services. A situation comedy, or sitcom, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. This form can also include mockumentaries, a situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the programs production format. The effect of a studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. The terms situational comedy or sitcom werent commonly used until the 1950s, there were prior examples on radio, but the first television sitcom is said to be Pinwrights Progress, ten episodes being broadcast on the BBC in the United Kingdom between 1946 and 1947. There have been few long-running Australian-made sitcoms, but many U. S. UK sitcoms are a staple of government broadcaster Australian Broadcasting Corporation, in the 1970s and 1980s many UK sitcoms also screened on the Seven Network. By 1986, UK comedies Bless This House and Are You Being Served, had been repeated by ABC Television several times, and were then acquired and screened by the Seven Network, in prime time. In 1981, Daily at Dawn was the first Australian comedy series to feature a gay character. In 1987, Mother and Son was winner of the Television Drama Award presented by the Australian Human Rights Commission, in 2013, Please Like Me was praised by the critics, receiving an invitation to screen at the Series Mania Television Festival in Paris. And has garnered three awards and numerous nominations, nominated to the 2012 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards for Best Television Comedy Series. Conversely, however, Canadian television has had greater success with sketch comedy and dramedy series. The popular show King of Kensington, aired from 1975 to 1980, corner Gas, which ran for six seasons from 2004 to 2009, became an instant hit, averaging a million viewers per episode. It has been the recipient of six Gemini Awards, and has been nominated almost 70 times for various awards, other noteworthy recent sitcoms have included Call Me Fitz and Schitts Creek, Letterkenny and Kims Convenience. Sitcoms started appearing on Indian television in the 1980s, with serials like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, since it ceased production in 1992, the show has earned an estimated billion in syndication fees alone for Televisa. Gliding On, a popular sit-com in New Zealand in the early 1980s, won awards over the course of its run, including Best Comedy, Best Drama. The first Russian sitcom series was Strawberry, which was aired in 1996-1997 on the RTR channel, however, the boom of Russian sitcoms began only in the 2000s - when in 2004 the STS started very successful sitcom My Fair Nanny. In 2005, the series aired repeated episodes throughout Monday to Friday at 10,45 to 11,45 am, Kam Yat-san is in a heated cooking competition with master chef Chun Man-sek. Secret of the Heart is a 1998 Hong Kong television drama produced by TVB that was first aired from 16 February to 10 May 1998. The drama had a powerful roster cast that is made up of Felix Wong, Gallen Lo, Sunny Chan, Nick Cheung, Amy Kwok, Kathy Chow, Jessica Hsuan and Ada Choi. Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, also known as Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, is a wuxia novel by Jin Yong. It was first serialised in Hong Kong between 9 February and 18 June 1959 in the newspaper Ming Pao, the novel has a prequel, The Young Flying Fox, which was released in 1960. Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain is one of Jin Yongs shortest novels, the chapters are labelled in numerical order, instead of Jin Yongs typical style of using a short phrase or duilian as a chapters heading. The actual time frame of the novel lasts only a day, in the revised afterword to the novel, Jin Yong states that his inspiration did not derive from Akira Kurosawas 1950 film Rashomon as many people had falsely assumed. The literary devices used in the novel have been used often in literature, such as in One Thousand and One Nights. The story begins in the Changbai mountains in northeastern China during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor in the Qing dynasty. It follows the classical unity of time, taking place on a single day, a group of martial artists unearth a treasure chest and begin fighting for it. The reason for doing so is deliberately kept from the reader at this point of time. They start telling stories concerning the origin of a saber in the chest. In doing so, they gradually reveal each others personal secrets, the sabers story dates back over a century ago to the feuds of the four bodyguards under the warlord Li Zicheng, who led a rebellion that overthrew the Ming dynasty. The four guards family names were Hu, Miao, Tian and Fan, owing to a massive misunderstanding, which lasted several generations, their descendants have been slaying each other in a vendetta that prevented any of them from uncovering the truth. The Hu clan was opposed to those from the Miao, Tian and Fan families, the people gathered at the manor are either descendants of the four bodyguards or are otherwise embroiled in the feud. Hu Feis father, Hu Yidao, met Miao Renfeng, a descendant of the Miao family, both were masterful martial artists without peer. Miao Renfeng, Hu Yidao and his wife developed a friendship and grew to admire each other. Under the schemes of the villain Tian Guinong, Hu Yidao was unintentionally slain by Miao Renfeng when Tian secretly smeared his sword with poison, Hu Yidaos infant son, Hu Fei, was rescued and raised by a waiter, Ping Asi, whose life Hu Yidao once saved. Hu Fei grew up and became a martial artist nicknamed Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain. The various scheming martial artists are eventually punished by their greed, Hu Fei makes an appearance midway in the story. The conflict reaches a climax when Miao Renfeng challenges Hu Fei to a duel thinking mistakenly that Hu has intentionally molested his daughter and they fight for several rounds but neither emerges the victor

Detective Investigation Files IV is the 4th and final installment of the Detective Investigation Files TV franchised by TVB in Hong Kong. It won two TVB Anniversary Awards, including Best Actor for Louis Koo and Best Actress for Jessica Hsuan, the series focuses on the lives of two detectives, Tsui Fei and Kong Chi Shan, and the murder cases they deal with. He has been unstable since the disappearance of his girlfriend Leung Chin Chin three years earlier. At first, his attitude is not welcomed by the officers, especially Hon Kwok Yan. Fei and Tze Shan eventually become best friends, while investigating his first murder case, Fei meets psychologist Quin Mo Chiu Kwan and the two fell in love. He kidnapped Chin Chin for future use, finally, Tung Shing is defeated and sent to jail. The drama documents the rise and fall of three entrepreneurs, who founded Lik Tin Century Corporation together to achieve the goal of developing a pollution-free town in Hong Kong. Vendetta and love serves as strong throughout the series, with the vendetta between two families being the most prominent. It was speculated that the show was not originally meant to become a cross-millennium event, in Hong Kong, TVB is the predominant TV station in terms of ratings, often receiving 90% viewing shares. Supporters of this point to the splitting of the series into two parts, with a gap in between the broadcast to allow for production time. However, this still does not provide an explanation to the gap between two series, Tim Yip Wing-tim, The main character in the series, and an ambitious entrepreneur, he is the leader of his circle of three friends that established the Lik Tin Century construction corporation. Throughout the series, Tim has sometimes resorted to rather unsavory tactics to get things done due to his poor upbringing and his lust for revenge. He cares most of his family and friends yet at the beginning of the story, he was too bent on revenge, but through the long course of the story, he realizes his mistakes and evolved into an honorable person. Michael Hui Man-piu, An urban planner and the most educated person in his family, after a stressful event, he finally succumbs to the glories of dirty tactics and the crisis turned him into the villain of the first series. His evolution was so big that he would turn on everyone he loved just for fame. He was probably Tims greatest friend and greatest challenge, over the course of the first series, Tim first tries to get him to see the benefits of walking outside the straight line and will later try to make him repent his sins. He eventually dies at the end of the first series due to a medical allergy, Ma Chi-keung, He is the most unimpressive of the group of three due to his naivete but he is very nice towards his parents and friends. He started off as an investment counsellor and joined Lik Tin after he was fired from the bank, after his parents death, he left the company when he realizes that their deaths were part of a defamation plot hatched by Michael and Tim. Though sometimes considered the one, he is a good-natured innocent boy stuck between Tim and Michael. He is the one who always stops the arguing of the three friends. Yip Hau-kan, Brother of Howard Yip, and established Ming Dai Group and he went to prison for his brother over poorly constructed houses that violated safety regulations years before the time of the series, and is currently in retirement. Lee Pik-chun, Mother of Tim, and has a housewife mentality and she was once diagnosed with cancer during Kens time in prison and is now constantly worried about her children. Along with Li He, he was admired and rediscovered in the 20th century by young Chinese writers for the imagist quality of his poems. He is particularly famous for his tantalizing no title poems, Li Shangyins career was rough, and he never obtained a high position, either because of factional disputes, or because of his association with Liu Fen, a prominent opponent of the eunuchs. Li Shangyin lived at a time when the Tang Dynasty, after two hundred years of glorious reign, was fast declining. Culturally, politically and economically the Tang was one of the periods of Chinese history. The cosmopolitan capital of Changan was filled with traders from the Middle East, the empire covered a vast territory, the largest yet in the history of China. The nation, under the reign of Emperor Gaozuyi] through Taizong, Empress Wu to the time of Xuanzong, after the An Lushan Rebellion, however, the political and economic structure of the country began to disintegrate and the Dynasty went rapidly into decline. Peace and stability over the area of Hebei was heavily bought by a compromise settlement. These provincial governors paid only lip service to the central government, the court, now weak and impotent, tolerated their growing independence, wary also of the aggression of the Tibetans to the north-west who posed a constant threat to the capital. During the subsequent years, military governors repeatedly challenged imperial authority with attempts to claim hereditary succession, resulting in revolts and bloodshed. The eunuchs first gained influence as a group when Gao Lishi helped Emperor Xuanzong in his rise in power.3 Later. Eunuchs, led by Qiu Shiliang slaughtered the clans of many high officials, a great many other innocent people were killed in connection with this event. The eunuchs whose power had been growing out of control now completely dominated the Emperor, apart from the eunuchs, the Niu-Li factional strife was another destructive internal force haunting the Tang court. The Niu and Li factions were not organized political parties, the head of the Niu faction was represented by Niu Sengru and Li Zongmin and the Li faction by Li Deyu. In the 830s, the two contending factions created much turmoil in court through the reigns of Muzong, Jingzong, Wenzong, Wuzong and Xuanzong, in any case, many intellectuals and high officials were involved in this struggle

War and Destiny is a TVB period drama series released overseas in July 2006 and broadcast on TVB Jade Channel in March 2007. The background of the plot is set in the Nanjing during World War II, the Chinese title for this series shares the same Chinese name with the 1939 film Gone with the Wind. To fit the general ratings on TVB, the toned down much of the violence. The Ku family are living in the Republic of China era as a household in a wealthy part of Nanjing. Soon, words spread that the city is being taken over by Imperial Japanese forces, the Ku family, which had all daughters and a father and mother of weakening health, are soon forced to pack their belongings to leave the war torn area. One of their servants recommends they move to the rural areas, to their dismay, life is incredibly difficult and they live in poverty. The family is in pieces as each daughter struggles with numerous difficulties in the countryside, however, all members of the family eventually grow closer together as they work in the rural area. One of the daughters, Ping-On, was shocked to find out that Hao-Yee and she also discovers that Hao-Yee, whom she considers to be her fiancé, is actually in love with Cheng Yuet-Fung, the 4th wife of her father. Meanwhile, he is treated as a spy and traitor by all the Chinese villagers he grew up with. The killing was portrayed in a manner that was often quick, especially during the grave scene where the hundreds of innocent citizens were buried, the bodies were all intact. In the story Ku Man-Chai had 4 wives, each trying to give birth to a male son, up until the 1930s Republic of China era, this was common practice in the culture. And was a problem in China up until it was fixed by the more extreme One Child Policy. The earlier Ku family owned a truck, while Poon Sai-Cheung owned a Rolls Royce. Both attempted to escape war-torn Nanking by car, while the other 99% of the population escaped on foot and this demonstrates the huge wealth gap between the rich and poor

ICAC Investigators 2007 is the 2007 installment of the ICAC Investigator series, produced by Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption and RTHK. It is broadcast on TVB Jade channel, each criminal case is based on actual cases investigated by the ICAC. Prisoner Cheung Chun Hung employs Yu Fais services in meeting up with his girlfriend Ho Mei Yen outside of prison for her to pass to Yu Fai personal items he wants, Yu Fai who is perverted sees it as an opportunity to make money and hopefully bed Mei Yen. The prison warden Chu Sir informs ICAC Investigator Sunny Leung of finding prohibited items in prisoners cell, he one of his staff is passing items to prisoners. ICAC eventually finds the connection between Yu Fai and Mei Yen, the prison warden has Yu Fai searched and finds a bag of illegal substance on him. With solid evidence on him Yu Fai is arrested by ICAC, the problem is brought to the attention of the heads of the construction corporation. ICAC is asked to investigate, they tail the workers of the construction company, ICAC finds out that the building supervisor Leung Dik Wai is never at the construction site but his signature on documents claimed he was. Lai Chi Kit is another building supervisors, unlike Dik Wai and their boss Chan Lik Tou tells Dik Wai he will promote him to head building supervisor but a loyal worker tells Lik Tou that he is making a mistake and Lik Tou promotes Chi Kit instead. Chi Kit has a hard time handling his new responsibility since he is dealt with a limited budget, Dik Wai who resents Chi Kit uses this as an opportunity for Chi Kit downfall by suggesting to their boss on using a not compliance material to complete the building. Lik Tou who only cares about the budget agrees to Dik Wais plan, Chi Kit guilt eventually gets the better of him and he quits his job, but ICAC arrest all of them. Actual case, The episode is based on the 1999 Short piling at Yuen Chau Kok case, certain pilings within the foundation of the buildings were found to be shorter than others. The buildings were ordered to be demolish, through hard work he makes his fortune in real-estate. He tells his business partner So Lai Man about his situation and he questions why and she tells him her identity was stolen by a friend who has applied for bankruptcy under her name. Lei Wah brings Lan Man to ICAC offices to report what happened. When ICAC further questions Lan Man about her case she tells ICAC that Lei Wah told her to lie to them in order to save himself from the banks, with what Lai Man told ICAC, they decide to investigate Lei Wah. ICAC brings in Lei Wahs secretary for questioning, being pressured by ICAC she gives them another employee name, ICAC Investigator Rachel Kong convinces one of Lei Wahs employees Lee Sui Yen to be a truthful witness and Lei Wah is finally convicted. He is suspected of taking bribes and gains from former colleague Wu Jen Wah and his wife Choi Yut Ngo in exchange for protection of their night club and hostess bar businesses. The ICAC spends two years trailing him to gather evidence to make a arrest, but with not enough evidence they are forced to release Ho Dong on bail

The protagonist of the series, Po Chung-ling, is based on the author of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, the series tells how he was inspired to write those stories based on his personal encounters with the supernatural. Po Chung-Ling was born in Jinan a family of New Year print and he is very bright, his father, Po Poon, has therefore always hoped that he could one day carry on the family business. Ling, mistakenly thinks that Poon is working in collusion with some corrupt officials and his good friend, Ko Jit, is a constable and he hates corrupt officials as much as Ling does. Rumor has it that a fox spirit is creating troubles in Jinan, Ling is almost killed when he is investigating into the matter with Jit. Fortunately, a girl named Ling Wu Siu-Tsui comes to his rescue in the nick of time. It turns out later that she is the fox spirit, as they spend more and more time together, Tsui starts to fall for Ling. The Po family has secured an order of New Year print. To ensure the work can be finished in time they have to hire a large numbers of female workers. Wax and Wane is a 2011 Hong Kong television drama produced by Television Broadcasts Limited, with Nelson Cheung serving as the executive producer. The drama follows the story of two families, dealing with themes of revenge, greed, business affairs, and family. Yung Shing-fun and his cousin Man Wing-cheong have been at odds for years, Eugene, Funs eldest son engages in a property development project in order to solve the problem. Unwillingly, he offers to buy out the location of Cheongs noodle shop with his companys shares and he also invites Cheong and his son, Fung, to join the companys management. Eugene actually has ulterior motives for doing this, as he hates Fung to the core for marrying his girlfriend Ko Wai-ting, on top of this, Eugenes younger brother, Gary, is going out with Cheongs second daughter, Peace, regardless of his familys opposition. Now, Eugene is at his wits end as he has to handle his family issues single-handedly and he never understood what family ties really meant, nor had he the courage to try to find it out, until now. Pre-production and character casting began September 2009, roger Kwok and Derek Kok were cast first, upon hearing this, Ron Ng explained that he turned down two mainland Chinese drama offers in order to fit his schedule to film Wax and Wane with Kwok. Myolie Wu was also reported to have part of the project. A costume fitting and press conference for the drama was held on 12 January 2010, a blessing ceremony was held on 9 March 2010. The Life and Times of a Sentinel is a 2011 Hong Kong historical-fiction television drama produced by Television Broadcasts Limited, with Leung Choi-yuen serving as the executive producer. Set in the late 17th century, during the years of the Kangxi Emperors reign over Qing China, the drama stars Nip Dor-po. He is used by both the Kangxi Emperor and Prince Yu to pit against each other, conflicting Dor-pos loyalty for both, the sudden death of the young Shun-chi Emperor shocked the whole empire. Angry with this, Fuk-tsuen dispatchs a spy, Nip Dor-po, note, Some of the characters names are in Cantonese romanisation. Steven Ma as Nip Dor-po — an imperial bodyguard and he is sent by Fuk-tsuen to spy on Hong-hei, becoming the emperors personal bodyguard. As Dor-po spends more time with the emperor, he learns to appreciate the emperors intelligence, Dor-po ultimately decides to help Hong-hei rebel against Fuk-tsuen. Ma says that Dor-po is the most complicated character he has come across, kenneth Ma as Fuk-tsuen, the Second Imperial Prince — officially Prince Yu, Fuk-tsuen is the Shun-chi Emperors second son. Shunzhi Emperor

The Shunzhi Emperor, formerly romanized as the Shun-chih Emperor, was the third emperor of the Qing dynasty and the first Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1644 to 1661. A committee of Manchu princes chose him to succeed his father, Hong Taiji, in September 1643, when he was five years old. The princes also appointed two co-regents, Dorgon, the 14th son of the Qing dynastys founder Nurhaci, and Jirgalang, one of Nurhacis nephews, from 1643 to 1650, political power lay mostly in the hands of Dorgon. After Dorgons death on the last day of 1650, the young Shunzhi Emperor started to rule personally and he tried, with mixed success, to fight corruption and to reduce the political influence of the Manchu nobility. The Shunzhi Emperor died at the age of 22 of smallpox, a contagious disease that was endemic in China. He was succeeded by his third son Xuanye, who had survived smallpox. Because fewer documents have survived from the Shunzhi era than from later eras of the Qing dynasty, Shunzhi was the name of this rulers reign period in Chinese. This title had equivalents in Manchu and Mongolian because the Qing imperial family was Manchu, the emperors personal name was Fulin, and the posthumous name by which he was worshipped at the Imperial Ancestral Temple was Shizu. In the 1580s, when China was ruled by the Ming dynasty, in a series of campaigns from the 1580s to the 1610s, Nurhaci, the leader of the Jianzhou Jurchens, unified most Jurchen tribes under his rule. Nurhaci gave control of these Banners to his sons and grandsons, in 1616 Nurhaci formally announced the foundation of the Later Jin dynasty, effectively declaring his independence from the Ming. Over the next few years he wrested most major cities in Liaodong from Ming control and his string of victories ended in February 1626 at the siege of Ningyuan, where Ming commander Yuan Chonghuan defeated him with the help of recently acquired Portuguese cannon. Probably hurt during the battle, Nurhaci died a few months later, in 1629 he led an incursion to the outskirts of Beijing, during which he captured Chinese craftsmen who knew how to cast Portuguese cannon. In 1635 Hong Taiji renamed the Jurchens the Manchus, and in 1636 changed the name of his polity from Later Jin to Qing, when Hong Taiji died on 21 September 1643 without having named a successor, the fledgling Qing state faced a possibly serious crisis. Several contenders—namely Nurhacis second and eldest surviving son Daišan, Nurhacis fourteenth and fifteenth sons Dorgon and Dodo, and Hong Taijis eldest son Hooge—started to vie for the throne. With his brothers Dodo and Ajige, Dorgon controlled the Plain and Bordered White Banners, many Manchu princes advocated that Dorgon, a proven military leader, should become the new emperor, but Dorgon refused and insisted that one of Hong Taijis sons should succeed his father. Fulin was officially crowned Emperor of the Qing dynasty on 8 October 1643, because the Shunzhi reign is not well documented, it constitutes a relatively little-known period of Qing history. On 17 February 1644, Jirgalang, who was a military leader but looked uninterested in managing state affairs. After an alleged plot by Hooge to undermine the regency was exposed on 6 May of that year, Hooge was stripped of his title of Imperial Prince, Dorgon soon replaced Hooges supporters with his own, thus gaining closer control of two more Banners

River of Wine is a 2011 Hong Kong period drama television series produced by Television Broadcasts Limited under executive producer Wong Wai-sing. A costume fitting ceremony was held on 16 December 2010 at 12,30 PM, a blessing ceremony was held on 11 January 20112,00 PM where filming began. Production was wrapped on 2 April 2011, the premiere episode aired on 29 August 2011. The story takes place in the Qing Dynasty, revolving around the Sung and Leung family, Madam Leung is the owner of a small business with eldest son Leung Ching-yiu, second son Leung Ching-hong, eldest daughter Leung Sau-man and youngest daughter Leung Sau-yin. Yiu originally was a worker at the Jiujiang brewery but due to a natural disaster, Sung family’s daughter, Sung Chi-ching, the third mistress Ting Kar-pik and eldest son Sung Chi-tsun were separated. The Sung family decided to adopt Yiu as their son and looked after the business, Hong thought Yiu became the Sung familys son for the sake of wealth. Just when business for the Jiujiang wine brewery were going well, Sung familys long lost son returns and this results in a major feud between the Leung and the Sungs. Finally, when Yiu tied the marriage between Ching and Hong, he was ready to return back to the Sungs. Sadly, Tsuns best friend Tsang Yuk-fong s father Magistrate Tsang causes downfall to the family, the Sung family business is stolen, luckily Hong helps the family rebuild their business. The Sung and Leungs calm their feud, twenty years ago, Ching-yiu left his family to become the adopted heir of wine master Sung Ting-tin, who lost his only son Chi-tsun in a shipwreck. The Leungs thought he abandoned them for money, but Ching-yiu only left to save his family from poverty, intelligent and patient, Ching-yiu manages to make Tsui Lung Winery into one of the most prosperous and famous wineries of southern China. He eventually went away with Ting Kar Pik to a new place to start a new life by selling wines, linda Chung as Sung Chi-ching — the Sung familys daughter who is born with leg length discrepancy. Because of this, she is unable to find marriage to a family and often hides in her home doing paintings. She falls in love with Ching-hong and eventually becomes his wife, eventually she gave birth safely to their baby. Sunny Chan as Leung Ching-hong — Madam Leungs second son and he has a passion for wine making and hopes to own a wine shop in the future. He eventually marries Sung Chi-Ching and had a baby with her, when he knew his wife is sick with the baby and nearly dies, he made a miscarriage soup for her to drink and begs her to let the baby go. When his wife begs him to keep the baby for their familys sake, he is touched. Elena Kong as Ting Ka-pik — Ching-yius stepmother and soulmate, Chi-tsun and Chi-chings stepmother and her marriage to Sung was a business proposal, conducted by her father and brother, who wanted Sung to invest on their plantation business

Curse of the Royal Harem is a 2011 Hong Kong period drama produced by TVB under executive producer Chong Wai-kin. The 45-minute episodes aired from 31 October to 4 December 2011 and it is one of three grand TVB productions used to celebrate the channels 44th anniversary, the other two being Super Snoops and Forensic Heroes III. The drama is Hong Kongs second highest-rating serial drama of 2011, Yee-lan, the Consort Tsuen was the new wife of Emperor Do-kwong s elder brother. However, Do-kwongs brother was missing after a battle and his body was never found, Empress Dowager Kung-chee was devastated that she lost her beloved son and saw Yee-lan, as an ominous woman and wanted her dead. Because Do-kwong was already in love with Yee-lan, since he was young, he chose to save her by making Yee-lan, as his new concubine, partnering up with Empress Dowager, the two vowed to eradicate Yee-lan, using many different schemes to harm her. As Yee-lan, wanted to protect herself, she did not hesitate to battle the Empress to the end, during their battle, Yee-lan, accidentally discovered a major plot happening in the royal harem. Who is behind this big plot, who will be the winner in this intense battle in the royal harem. Yee-lan eventually falls in love with Do-kwong, who honours her as an individual, myolie Wu as Tunggiya Yuen-yuen, the Empress Consort Hao-sun — Emperor Do-kwongs first empress consort and Yee-lans main rival. Her coronation as Empress is disrupted by Do-kwong when he goes to save Yee-lan from burial, jealous of Do-kwongs favouritism to Yee-lan, and a fear of losing her title as Empress, Yuen-yuen attempts to strip Yee-lan from power by dispatching a spy to Yee-lans palace chamber. Yuen-yuen becomes desperate to conceive a son and is later deposed of her title as Empress after Do-kwong discovers her affair with Min-yan. Sunny Chan as the Do-kwong Emperor — the benevolent Qing Dynasty Emperor who naturally became the successor of his father after the death of his older brother, Min-yi. He had a crush on Yee-lan since youth, but because Yee-lan and Min-yi were in love, Do-kwong interrupts Yuen-yuens coronation as Emperess to save Yee-lan from her burial and later takes her in as his consort, much to the dismay of Yuen-yuen and Kung-chee.
