Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is a coeducational public research university in College Station, Texas, United States. It is a university and is a member of the Texas A&M University System. The systems endowment ranks in the top 10 in the nation, Texas A&Ms student body is the largest in Texas and one of the largest in the United States. In 2001, Texas A&M was inducted as a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the schools students, alumni–over 450,000 strong–and sports teams are known as Aggies. The Texas A&M Aggies athletes currently compete in 18 varsity sports as a member of the Southeastern Conference, originally, the college taught no classes in agriculture, instead concentrating on classical studies, languages, literature, and applied mathematics. After four years, students could attain degrees in agriculture, civil and mechanical engineering. Under the leadership of President James Earl Rudder in the 1960s, A&M desegregated, became coeducational, to reflect the institutions expanded roles and academic offerings, the Texas Legislature renamed the school to Texas A&M University in 1963. The letters A&M, originally short for Agricultural and Mechanical, are retained only as a link to the universitys past, the main campus is one of the largest in the United States, spanning 5,200 acres, and is home to the George Bush Presidential Library. About one-fifth of the student body lives on campus, Texas A&M has over 1,000 officially recognized student organizations. Many students also observe the traditions, which daily life, as well as special occasions. Working with agencies such as the Texas AgriLife Research and Texas AgriLife Extension Service, the university offers degrees in over 150 courses of study through ten colleges and houses 18 research institutes. As a Senior Military College, Texas A&M is one of six American public universities with a full-time, the U. S. Congress laid the groundwork for the establishment of Texas A&M in 1862 with the adoption of the Morrill Act. To promote the liberal and practical education of the classes in the several pursuits. In 1871, the Texas Legislature used these funds to establish the states first public institution of higher education, Brazos County donated 2,416 acres near Bryan, Texas, for the schools campus. Rob Childress

Robert Alexander Childress is the head baseball coach of the Texas A&M Aggies baseball team. Before coming to Texas A&M for the 2006 season, he served as a head coach. He attended Harmony High School in Northeast Texas, during his eight years as pitching coach with Nebraska, the Cornhuskers advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times, reached the Super Regionals four times, and the College World Series three times. He helped construct the Nebraska pitching staff into one of the best in the nation and his last season at Nebraska, his staff finished with an ERA of 2.69, ranking in the top five nationally and best in the Big 12. Before joining the Nebraska staff, he served as pitching coach at Northwestern State University from 1995 to 1997, Childress was hired in 2005 by Texas A&M to be the head coach of the Aggie baseball team. His second season as coach, Childress led the Aggies to a Big 12 Tournament Championship. His team continued to improve in the 2008 season, as the Aggies won the Big 12 Championship and returned to the NCAA Super Regionals, earning Childress the Big 12 Coach of the Year award. Southeastern Conference

The Southeastern Conference is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the Southern part of the United States. Its fourteen members include the public universities of ten states. The conference is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the SEC participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I in sports competitions, for football, it is part of the Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-A. The SEC was also the first NCAA Division I conference to hold a game for college football and was one of the founding members of the Bowl Championship Series. The current SEC commissioner is Greg Sankey, the conference sponsors team championships in nine mens sports and twelve womens sports. The SEC consists of 14 member institutions located within the borders of 11 contiguous states and these divisional groupings are applied exclusively to football and baseball as well as their scheduling and standings. The other charter members were, The University of the South left the SEC on December 13,1940 and it is currently a member of the Division III Southern Athletic Association. Georgia Institute of Technology left the SEC in 1964, in 1975, it became a founding member of the Metro Conference, one of the predecessors to todays Conference USA. Georgia Tech competed in the Metro Conference in all sports except football, in 1978, Georgia Tech joined another Southern Conference offshoot, the Atlantic Coast Conference, for all sports, where it has remained ever since. Tulane University left the SEC in 1966, along with Georgia Tech, it was a charter member of the Metro Conference. Unlike Tech, however, Tulane remained in the Metro Conference until it merged with the Great Midwest Conference in 1995 to form Conference USA, Tulane remained an independent in football until C-USA began football competition in 1996. Tulane left C-USA in 2014 for the American Athletic Conference, in 1990, the SEC expanded from ten to twelve member universities with the addition of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Gamecocks. The two new members began SEC competition with the 1991–1992 basketball season, at the same time, the SEC organized competition for some sports into two divisions. Initially, the format was used in football, baseball. The divisional format was dropped for mens basketball following the 2011–2012 season, the 1992 and 1993 championship games were held at Legion Field in Birmingham, and all championship games from 1994 onward have been held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. On November 6,2011 the SEC commissioner announced that the University of Missouri would also join the SEC on July 1,2012, for football, Texas A&M was scheduled to compete in the Western Division, and Missouri in the Eastern Division. College Station is a city in Brazos County, Texas, situated in East-Central Texas in the heart of the Brazos Valley, in the center of the region known as Texas Triangle. It is 90 miles northwest of Houston and 87 miles northeast of Austin, as of the 2010 census, College Station had a population of 93,857, which had increased to an estimated population of 100,050 as of July 2013. College Station and Bryan together make up the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area, College Station is home to the main campus of Texas A&M University, the flagship institution of the Texas A&M University System. The city owes both its name and existence to the location along a railroad. Due largely to the presence of Texas A&M University, College Station was named by Money magazine in 2006 as the most educated city in Texas, the origins of College Station date from 1860, when the Houston and Texas Central Railway began to build through the region. Eleven years later, the site was chosen as the location for the proposed Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, in 1876, as the nation celebrated its centennial, the school opened its doors as the first public institution of higher education in the state of Texas. The population of College Station grew slowly, reaching 350 in 1884 and 391 at the turn of the century, however, during this time, transportation improvements took place in the town. In 1900, the I&GN Railroad was extended to College Station, the interurban was replaced by a city bus system in the 1920s. In 1930, the community to the north of College Station, College Station did not incorporate until 1938 with John H. Binney as the first mayor. Within a year, the city established a commission, and by 1940. The city grew under the leadership of Ernest Langford, called by some the Father of College Station, early in his first term, the city adopted a council-manager system of city government. Population growth accelerated following World War II as the nonstudent population reached 7,898 in 1950,11,396 in 1960,17,676 in 1970,30,449 in 1980,52,456 in 1990, and 67,890 in 2000. The population for the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area range from an estimated 250,846 to 271,773 by 2030. College Station is located south of the center of Brazos County at 30°36′5″N 96°18′52″W and it is bordered by the city of Bryan to the northwest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 49.6 sq mi, of which 49.4 sq mi is land and 0.19 sq mi. The local climate is subtropical and temperate and winters are mild with periods of low temperatures usually lasting less than two months, snow and ice are extremely rare. Summers are warm and hot with occasional showers being the only variation in weather. Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park

Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park is a baseball stadium in College Station, Texas, that is home to the Texas A&M baseball program. The stadium was dedicated on March 21,1978, and is named in honor of C. E, pat Olsen, a 1923 graduate of Texas A&M University and a former baseball player in the New York Yankees farm system. Olsen Field has served as an NCAA regional site five times and had its 1999 regional attendance ranked second with 53,287, the first NCAA Regional Tournament held at Olsen Field was in 1989. In 2004 Sports Illustrated on Campus ranked Olsen Field the best college baseball venue, Aggie baseball fans called RAggies have a reputation of fiercely ragging opponents. Olsen Field underwent a renovation that began on June 7,2011, funded in part by donations from the owners of Blue Bell Creameries. In return, Blue Bell gained naming rights, however, the seating capacity was decreased from 7,000 to 5,400 to accommodate the changes. Olsen Field reopened on February 17,2012 for the first game of the 2012 baseball season even though some projects were not completely finished, in 2015, the Aggies ranked 7th among Division I baseball programs in attendance, averaging 4,857 per home game. Texas A&M Aggies

Texas A&M Aggies refers to the students, graduates, and sports teams of Texas A&M University. The nickname Aggie was once common at land-grant or Ag schools in many states, the teams compete in Division I of NCAA sports. Texas A&M was a member of the Southwest Conference until its dissolution. The Aggies competed in the Big 12 until joining the Southeastern Conference on July 1,2012, Texas A&Ms official school colors are maroon and white. The teams are referred to as Aggies and the mascot is a Rough Collie named Reveille, A&M has had two perfect seasons having gone undefeated and unscored upon in both 1917 and 1919. The football program experienced a period of success lasting from 1944 to 1971. With Emory Bellard as head coach beginning in 1972, the Aggies returned to prominence with two 10 win seasons during his short tenure and he was replaced by Tom Wilson who had little success at Texas A&M before Jackie Sherrill took over the program. Sherrill won three conference titles and two Cotton Bowl Classic postseason games. Slocum, replaced him as coach in 1989. Slocum finished in the top 25 during 10 of his 14 years at Texas A&M and won 4 conference titles, in late 2002, Dennis Franchione left his position as head coach at the University of Alabama to take over Texas A&Ms football program from Slocum. He finished the 2003 season at 4-8, Franchione finished the 2004 regular season with a 7-4 mark and an invitation to the Cotton Bowl Classic, a game the Aggies lost to Tennessee. The 2005 team regressed to 5-6 and defensive coordinator Carl Torbush was fired, in the 2007 season, the Aggies finished in a three way tie for third place with Texas Tech and Oklahoma State in the Big 12 South, leading only Baylor, which finished last. Although the team pulled out a 38-30 victory over the Longhorns on the day after Thanksgiving, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman was announced as his replacement three days later. Unfortunately, Shermans first year at A&M resulted in one of the worst records in years, the 2009 season showed some improvement with a 5-2 home record and a 6-7 overall record. More coaching changes were made after the 2009 season and the hiring of Tim DeRuyter lead the media coverage, in 2008, DeRuyter was the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Airforce where his defense finished 11th in the NCAA in total defense, and 5th in pass defense. The Aggie Football team was featured in the ESPN movie, The Junction Boys, the film dramatized Coach Paul Bear Bryants grueling football practice sessions in 1954 in Junction, Texas. Texas A&M basketball had been dormant for much of its recent history until the mid-2000s, the Aggies have won 11 conference championships, two conference tournament titles, and have 10 NCAA tournament appearances. Southwest Conference

The Southwest Conference was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at times the conference included schools from Oklahoma. After a long period of stability, Arkansas left in 1991 to join the Southeastern Conference, by March 1,1914 a number of schools had responded favorably to the idea. The first organizational meeting of the conference was set to be held on April 30,1914, the date was changed because representatives from every school could not make it then. It was ultimately held on May 5 and 7,1914 at the Oriental Hotel in Dallas, Texas and it was chaired by L. Theo Bellmont. Originally, Bellmont wanted Louisiana State University and the University of Mississippi to join the conference as well, the Southwest Intercollegiate Athletic Conference became an official body on December 8,1914, at a formal meeting at the Rice Hotel in Houston. Rice University left the conference in 1916, only to re-join in 1918, phillips University was a conference member for one year. Oklahoma left in 1919 to join the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, however, the series between Texas and Oklahoma would continue as a non-conference matchup in the annual Red River Rivalry game held in Dallas. From 1925 until 1991, the University of Arkansas would be the only member not located within the state of Texas. By 1925, the name was shortened to simply Southwest Conference. After its organizational years, the conference settled into regularly scheduled meetings among its members, the SWC would be guided by seven commissioners, the first of whom, P. W. St. Clair, was appointed in 1938. In 1940, the conference took control of the then five-year-old Cotton Bowl Classic, Texas Technological College joined the SWC in 1958, followed by the University of Houston for the 1976 season. The conference celebrated its glory years in the 1960s, dominated by two teams, Texas and Arkansas. Texas won the 1963 National Championship, and Arkansas won a National Championship in 1964 in the Football Writers Association of America, in 1969, Texas won another National Championship by beating #2-ranked Arkansas 15-14 in the regular seasons final game. The 1969 Arkansas-Texas game in Fayetteville, Arkansas, attended by President Richard Nixon, is counted among the greatest college football games ever played. Texas also won the 1970 United Press International National Championship, which until 1974 was awarded prior to the bowl games, opponents usually were the runners-up from the Big 8 Conference or the Southeastern Conference, although independents Penn State and Notre Dame were also often featured. From the 1940s onward, the Cotton Bowl Classic was counted among the four bowl games. However, in the 1990s, the game declined in importance, in 1977, Notre Dame became the last team to win a national championship in the Cotton Bowl Classic by beating Texas in the January 1978 game

Big 12 Conference

The Big 12 Conference is a ten-school collegiate athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas. Its ten members, located in Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, additionally, the Big 12 has ten affiliate members, six for the sport of wrestling, one for womens gymnastics, and 3 for womens rowing. The Big 12 Conference is a 501 nonprofit organization incorporated in Delaware, the Big 12 was formerly composed of 12 schools, hence its name, it was formed in 1996 when four schools from the collapsing Southwest Conference joined with the pre-existing Big Eight Conference. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were grouped with the four newcomers in the Big 12 South, TCU and West Virginia joined from the Mountain West and Big East Conferences respectively to offset two of the departing schools, bringing the conference to its current strength. Attempts to rename the Big 12 to reflect its current strength would lead to confusion with the current Big Ten Conference, the Big 12 Conference commissioner is Bob Bowlsby. Full members Assoc. member Other Conference The Big 12 Conference sponsors championship competition in ten mens, nonetheless, it is an open coed sport in NCAA college athletics, with mens, womens, and coed teams in all NCAA divisions competing against each other. TCU and West Virginia both field coed teams, through 2017, West Virginia with 19 national titles and TCU with two, together have won over half of the NCAA titles awarded since the inaugural NCAA championship in 1980. West Virginia also won four national titles. The Big 12 began athletic play in the fall of 1996, from its formation until 2011, its 12 members competed in two divisions. Between 2011 and 2012 four charter members left the conference while two joined in 2013. The Big 12 is unique among the current Power Five conferences in that it only has 10 members, despite the name, causing some confusion. From 1987 to 2015,12 or more members were required for a championship game. Former Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds and former football coach Mack Brown, along with Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops, critics argued it was a competitive advantage over other contract conferences. Conferences with a game have their division champions typically play one of their toughest games of the year in the last week of the regular season. Unlike the other Power 5 conferences in which a team plays a portion of the other teams in the conference each season. This theoretically allows for the declaration of a de facto champion without the need for a rematch between the top two teams in the conference. On June 3,2016, the conference announced it would reinstate the football game in the 2017 season. NCAA Division I

Division I is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the United States. This level was called the University Division of the NCAA, in contrast to the lower level College Division. For football only, Division I was further subdivided in 1978 into Division I-A, Division I-AA, in 2006, Division I-A and I-AA were renamed Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision, respectively. FCS teams are allowed to award scholarships, a practice technically allowed. FBS teams also have to meet attendance requirements, while FCS teams do not need to meet minimum attendance requirements. Another difference is post season play, starting with the 2014 postseason, a four-team playoff called the College Football Playoff, replaced the previous one game championship format. Even so, Division I FBS football is still the only NCAA sport in which a champion is not determined by an NCAA-sanctioned championship event. All D-I schools must field teams in at least seven sports for men and seven for women or six for men and eight for women, with at least two team sports for each gender. Division I schools must meet minimum financial aid awards for their athletics program, Several other NCAA sanctioned minimums and differences that distinguish Division I from Divisions II and III. Each playing season has to be represented by each gender as well, there are contest and participant minimums for each sport, as well as scheduling criteria. Mens and womens teams have to play all but two games against Division I teams, for men, they must play one-third of all their contests in the home arena. The NCAA has limits on the financial aid each Division I member may award in each sport that the school sponsors. Equivalency sports, in which the NCAA limits the total financial aid that a school can offer in a sport to the equivalent of a set number of full scholarships. Roster limitations may or may not apply, depending on the sport, the term counter is also key to this concept. The NCAA defines a counter as an individual who is receiving financial aid that is countable against the aid limitations in a sport. The number of scholarships that Division I members may award in sport is listed below. In this table, scholarship numbers for head-count sports are indicated without a point, for equivalency sports, they are listed with a decimal point. College baseball is baseball that is played on the intercollegiate level at institutions of higher education. In comparison to football and basketball, college competition in the United States plays a role in developing professional players. Moving directly from school to the professional level is more common in baseball than in football or basketball. However, if players enroll at a college, they must complete three years to regain eligibility, unless they reach age 21 before starting their third year of attendance. Players who enroll at junior colleges regain eligibility after one year at that level, in the most recently completed 2016 season, there were 300 NCAA Division I teams in the United States. As with most other U. S. intercollegiate sports, competitive college baseball is played under the auspices of the NCAA or the NAIA, the NCAA writes the rules of play, while each sanctioning body supervises season-ending tournaments. The final rounds of the NCAA tournaments are known as the College World Series, the College World Series for Division I takes place in Omaha, Nebraska in June, following the regular season. The playoff bracket for Division I consists of 64 teams, with four teams playing at each of 16 regional sites, the 16 winners advance to the Super Regionals at eight sites, played head-to-head in a best-of-three series. The eight winners then advance to the College World Series, an elimination tournament to determine the two national finalists. The finalists play a series to determine the Division I national champion. In 2016, Coastal Carolina won the College World Series, the first intercollegiate baseball game took place in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on July 1,1859, between squads representing Amherst College and Williams College. As these efforts resulted in players and overall programs, more television. The ESPN family of greatly increased television coverage of the NCAA playoffs. Soon, in many regions, baseball came to be considered a major sport. And even non-warm weather schools started to recognize baseballs potential and began to put more emphasis on it. Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Oregon State are three examples of cold weather schools with very successful programs. The first two made the College World Series when warm-weather schools placed major emphasis on baseball as well as had the advantage of playing earlier and more games because of favorable climates. College World Series

The College World Series, or CWS, is an annual June baseball tournament held in Omaha, Nebraska. The CWS is the culmination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Baseball Championship series, the eight participating teams are split into two, four-team, double-elimination brackets with the winners of each bracket playing in a best-of-three championship series. Since 1950, the College World Series has been held in Omaha and it was held at Rosenblatt Stadium from 1950 through 2010, starting in 2011, it has been held at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. Earlier tournaments were held at Hyames Field in Kalamazoo, Michigan and Wichita, the name College World Series is derived from that of the Major League Baseball World Series championship, it is currently an MLB trademark licensed to the NCAA. A memorandum of understanding had been reached by all parties on April 30, the currently binding contract began in 2011, the same year the tournament moved from Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium to TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, a new ballpark across from CenturyLink Center Omaha. 1947 – Eight teams were divided into two, four-team, single-elimination playoffs, the two winners then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. 1948 – Similar to 1947, but the two, four-team playoffs were changed to double-elimination tournaments, again in the finals, the two winners met in a best-of-three format in Kalamazoo. 1949 – The final was expanded to a four-team, double-elimination format, Eight teams began the playoffs with the four finalists decided by a best-of-three district format. 1950–1987 – An eight-team, double-elimination format for the College World Series coincided with the move to Omaha in 1950, 1950–1953, a baseball committee chose one team from each of the eight NCAA districts to compete at the CWS. Through 1987 the College World Series was a pure double-elimination event and that ended with the 1987 College World Series. The single-game championship was designed for television, with the final game on CBS on a Saturday afternoon. Before expanding to 64 teams in 1999, the Division I tournament began with 48 teams, the winner of each regional advanced to the College World Series. The regionals were a test of endurance, as teams had to win at least four games over four days, sometimes five if a team dropped into the losers bracket, placing a premium on pitching. 1999–2002 – With some 293 Division I teams playing, the NCAA expanded the tournament to a 64-team Regional field in 1999, with 8 National Seed teams. The winners of each of the 16 Regionals advanced to 8 two-team, the 8 Super Regional winners advanced to the CWS in Omaha. While the CWS format remained the same, the field meant that eight Super Regional champions would advance. The 64-team bracket is set at the beginning of the championship, since the 1999 College World Series, the four-team brackets in the CWS have been determined by the results of regional and super-regional play, much like the NCAA basketball tournament. Prior to 1999, the pairings for the CWS were not determined until after the completion of the regional tournaments, 2003–present – The championship final became a best-of-three series between the two four-team bracket winners, with games scheduled for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings

Michael Wacha

Michael Joseph Wacha is an American professional baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. He played college baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies, the Cardinals selected Wacha in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft from Texas A&M. With just one year in the leagues, he made his MLB debut on May 30,2013. Michael Wacha was born in Iowa City, Iowa, to Tom and he has one older brother, Charlie, one younger brother, Lucas, and a younger sister, Brette. When Wacha was three years old, his family moved from Iowa City to Texarkana, Texas and his future college coach, Rob Childress, first spotted Wacha pitching in an American Legion game, Wachas father was the coach and his sister the batgirl. Wachas uncle, Dusty Rogers, pitched in the Cincinnati Reds organization from 1984 through 1988, Wacha attended Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas, where he played for the schools baseball and basketball teams. As a basketball player, he lettered three years as a forward and was honored on the first-team all-district on his way to advancing his school to the finals during his senior year. In his junior season, Wacha posted a 16–3 W–L record. As a senior, he led the Hawks to the state semi-finals in his year in 2009 with a 6–3 win–loss record. Wacha was a two-time all-state selection, he was selected to the all-state first-team, excelling academically, Wacha was a member of the National Honor Society, in basketball, Wacha earned first-team academic all-state honors. As an enrollee at Texas A&M University, Wacha played three years of baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies. At this point, Wacha stood 65 tall, weighed 180 pounds, during his freshman campaign, he made ten starts in 25 total appearances and posted a 2.90 earned run average and a 9–2 W–L record. Wacha also registered 97 strikeouts and 22 walks in 105 1⁄3 innings pitched and his nine wins ranked fifth and 2.90 ERA sixth in the Big 12 Conference. For his performance, Louisville Slugger named Wacha a freshman All-American, in his sophomore year, Wacha posted a 9–4 record in 16 starts with 123 SO and just 20 BB and a 2.29 ERA in 129 2⁄3 IP. That performance earned him a spot as a Third Team All-American, Wacha was a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He also pitched in the Big 12 Championship, NCAA College Station Regional, the Cardinals selected Wacha in the first round with the 19th overall selection of the 2012 MLB Draft and signed him for $1.9 million on June 14,2012. His draft slot originally belonged to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Wacha ascended quickly through the minor leagues. Pat Olsen

Carl Edwin Pat Olsen was an American engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He played college baseball at Texas A&M University and was briefly with the New York Yankees organization and he founded a manufacturing and oil exploration company after leaving baseball. Olsen financially supported Texas A&M, his hometown of Clifton, Texas and he is the namesake for the baseball field at Texas A&M. After Olsen died, a battle ensued between his family and Texas A&M over the rights to his multimillion dollar estate. Pat Olsen was born to Norwegian immigrants in Clifton, Texas on August 3,1902 and he had nine siblings, an older brother attended Texas A&M and was a baseball letterman between 1914 and 1916. Olsen was a member of the Ross Volunteers and lettered as a pitcher between 1921 and 1923. Upon his graduation in 1923, Olsen entered professional baseball and he was signed to the New York Yankees organization and was a spring training roommate of Lou Gehrig, but he never made the Yankees major league roster. In October 1923, he married Elsie Duncan, the daughter of the Texas A&M food services director, Olsen founded Gearench Manufacturing Company in Houston in 1927. The companys earliest product, the Gearench, was a tool for working with small-diameter pipe, Olsen sold the company, which included facilities in Houston and Clifton, in 1978. Pat Olsen donated the first Gearench building in Clifton, the former Clifton Lutheran College, Olsen remained attached to baseball throughout his life and made significant financial contributions to various aspects of the game. In 1978, Olsen Field was dedicated as Texas A&Ms baseball field and he was also a member of the New York Yankees Alumni Club and he donated to the Major League Baseball pension plan. By the 1980s, Olsen had attended more than fifty All-Star Games and he was asked to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in game one of the 1984 World Series, former Texas A&M pitcher Mark Thurmond was one of the starting pitchers in the game. Olsen is a member of the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame and he was named a Texas A&M Distinguished Alumnus in 1981. In 1991, he was a member of the second class inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Texas A&M awards the C. E. Pat Olsen died in Kingwood, Texas on May 11,2000, in 2002, Olsens family sued the Texas A&M Foundation in a dispute over the rights to Olsens estate. The family said that a 1987 will would have left the $1.1 million estate to Olsens son and his son said that the elderly Olsen was mentally incapacitated by 1994. The university said that Olsen and his son were estranged and that Olsen grew more dependent on his friends at the university in his last years, a Harris County probate court ruled in favor of the family in 2002. In 2010, Blue Bell Creameries pledged $7 million to renovate Olsen Field, in May 2013, family members criticized the removal of lettering with Olsens name that had long been located at the entrance to the field

Charley Moran

After graduating, he became an assistant to Pop Warner at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. Moran coached the University of Nashville football team in 1900 and 1901, the 1901 team was one of the Souths greatest. Moran played minor league baseball in 1902 for teams in Little Rock, Chattanooga, in 1903, Moran pitched for the National Leagues St. Louis Cardinals, who finished in last place, but he appeared in only three games before injuring his arm. He posted a 5.25 earned run average in his tenure of 24 innings, being charged with a loss without earning a win. He went back to the leagues to manage the Dallas Giants in 1904. He returned to the Cardinals as a catcher in 1908 and played in 21 games and his minor league career continued with teams in Milwaukee, Mobile, New Orleans, Dallas and Montgomery until he suffered a broken leg in 1912. He briefly played with teams in Chattanooga and Brunswick in 1913 before retiring as a player, after managing an Austin team in 1914, he began umpiring, in the Texas League in 1915–16 and the Southern Association in 1917. Moran began coaching football in 1909 at Texas A&M, where he accumulated a 38–8–4 record as coach over six seasons through 1914. This may be incorrect as he was elevated to head coach after the game of the 1909 season. He became a National League umpire in 1918, a job he held through the 1939 season and he officiated in four World Series, serving as crew chief on the last two occasions. He was behind the plate on May 8,1929 when Carl Hubbell of the New York Giants pitched an 11–0 no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Moran also resumed his career as a head coach in 1917 at Centre College. The first two games of the 1917 season were coached by Robert L, chief Myers, and the rest by Moran. According to Centre publications, Myers realized he was dealing with a group of exceptional athletes and he needed someone who could the team justice, and found that person in Charles Moran. His record including undefeated seasons in 1919 and 1921, when the team was led on the field by Hall of Fame quarterback Bo McMillin. On October 29,1921, Moran guided Centre College to a historic 6–0 upset of Harvard, the game, commonly appreviated C6-H0, was ranked the 3rd biggest upset in college football history by ESPN. During the 1921 season Moran began a friendship with future baseball commissioner Happy Chandler, Moran then moved to Bucknell University, where he had a 19–10–2 record from 1924 through 1926. He was co-coach with Ed Weir of the NFLs Frankford Yellow Jackets in 1927 and his final coaching job was at Catawba College from 1930 through 1933, where he had a 22–11–5 record

Dorsett Vandeventer Tubby Graves was a college head coach in baseball, football, and basketball, and a player of football and baseball. A head coach in three sports, Graves was primarily a baseball coach, and led three college programs for a total of 32 seasons. He began at the University of Alabama for four seasons, spent another four at Texas A&M University, in basketball, he served as a head coach for six years, at Alabama, Texas A&M, and Montana Agricultural. At Washington, he was an assistant coach in football and basketball. In the summer of 1912, Graves was the manager of the La Junta Railroaders, born in Missouri, Graves was one of ten children of a doctor, and his two given names were surnames of two physicians. He played college football at Missouri from 1906 to 1908, and after his eligibility was used up in the Midwest, he moved to the Northwest, after college, Graves played baseball in the minor leagues. Graves was the coach at Alabama, Texas A&M, and Washington. Graves had an amicable rivalry with Buck Bailey of Washington State. After several years of playing baseball in the minors, he coached football at Alabama, Texas A&M, from 1911 to 1914, he led the Alabama program to a 21–12–3 record. In his only season at Texas A&M in 1918, he compiled a 6–1 record, at Montana Agricultural in Bozeman, he had a 5–5–1 record over two seasons. While head coach of the team at Washington, Graves also served as an assistant coach in football to several coaches. Graves was a basketball coach for six seasons, the first three at Alabama, where he was the programs first coach and compiled a record of 20–12 from 1912 to 1915. He later headed the Texas A&M program for a season and two at Montana Agricultural, at Washington, he was an assistant coach for 24 seasons under head coach Hec Edmundson. Graves had met Edmundson at Idaho when they were undergraduate athletes, after stepping down as baseball coach at Washington, Graves became an assistant athletic director at the university, where he remained until his death. He was also involved with racing in the state as a race steward at Longacres in Renton. While visiting Pullman in the spring of 1959, Graves fell and that December, he was hospitalized in Seattle for treatment of a liver ailment and died several weeks later in January 1960 at age 73. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle, about a mile northeast of the university. The UW athletic office building and the two baseball fields were named for Graves, he was posthumously inducted into the Big W Club

Dana Xenophon Bible was an American football player, coach of football, basketball, and baseball, and college athletics administrator. Bible was also the basketball coach at Texas A&M from 1920 to 1927. In addition, he was the director at Nebraska from 1932 to 1936. Bible was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1951, Bible was born in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1908 and received a B. A. degree from Carson–Newman College in 1912, Bible played football while in college and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Iota chapter. Bible began his career at Brandon Prep School in Shelbyville. Mississippi College recruited him to coach in 1912, and he was recruited to coach for Texas A&M University in 1916, in his college football coaching career, Bible compiled a record of 198–72–23. His teams had winning records in thirty of the seasons he coached. Bible twice won ten games in a season, Bible also coached baseball and basketball at Texas A&M. During his hiatus from Texas A&M in 1918, Bible served as pilot in World War I, while at Texas, University of Chicago coach Clark Shaughnessy contacted Bible to organize a clinic on the T formation. Along with Frank Leahy of Notre Dame, they helped create the T formation revolution, Bible was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1959 and the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 1960. He was the 1954 recipient of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award, Bible served on the National Collegiate Football Rules Committee for 25 years, and was president of the American Football Coaches Association. His book, Championship Football, was published in 1947, Bible was the son of Jonathan David Bible and Cleopatra I. Willis. The couple married on June 20,1889, Jonathan was a college professor at Carson–Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, he could quote biblical scripture and was a Greek and Latin scholar. Bible married Rowena Rhodes on December 19,1923 and they had two children, William and Barbara. Dana married Agnes Stacy in 194,4 and they would divorce in 1950. He married Dorothy Gilstrap on February 2,1952, Bible died on January 19,1980, and is interred at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Grailey Hewett Grady Big Hig Higginbotham was an American football and baseball player, coach of football, basketball, and baseball, and college athletics administrator. He was the first head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders mens basketball team, Higginbotham coached the Red Raiders baseball team to a 10–17 record from 1928 to 1929. He was also the coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team in 1929. He was the director at Texas Tech from 1927 to 1929. Homer Hill Norton was an American football, basketball, and baseball player and coach. His 1939 Texas A&M team went 11–0, beating Tulane in the Sugar Bowl, nortons record at Texas A&M was 82–53–9, giving him the second most wins of any coach in Texas A&M Aggies football history. He was fired in 1947 when his team went 3–6–1 and lost to Texas for the eighth straight year, Norton was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1971. Norton played four different sports at Birmingham–Southern College and played minor league baseball with the Birmingham Barons prior to becoming a coach, in addition to football, Norton also coached basketball at Centenary from 1921 to 1926 and baseball at Texas A&M from 1943 to 1944. American Baseball Coaches Association

The American Baseball Coaches Association is the worlds largest amateur baseball coaching organization. It was founded in 1945 as the American Association of College Baseball Coaches, the organization was founded as the American Association of College Baseball Coaches. Presidents have come from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, junior college, the association was behind the start of the creation of the College World Series, which now is conducted by the NCAA. As of 2016, the association has over 8,300 members with members hailing from nearly 25 different countries, the membership year for the ABCA runs from September 1 through August 31. The ABCA hosts the worlds largest baseball convention every January, the convention features coaching clinics, trade show, meetings, several awards presentations, cand honors. Over 5,600 coaches attend the convention, which lasts for four days, the convention is on a rotating schedule with the 2017 convention scheduled for Anaheim, California,2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana and the 2019 convention in Dallas, Texas. A major draw are the nearly 30 clinic speakers each year and these include some of the most knowledgeable baseball coaches and minds in the world and are on-hand to share their experiences and expertise with fellow coaches. Attendees receive each clinic video for free at the end of the convention on ABCAvideos. org, many products are displayed for the first time and some items are even raffled off as prizes.
