True Mothers is a 2020 Japanese drama film directed by Naomi Kawase. It was selected to be shown at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. It is based on a 2015 novel by Mizuki Tsujimura. In June 2020, the Toronto International Film Festival announced that the film would be part of their 2020 festival. It was selected as the Japanese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but was not nominated.

Naomi Kawase is a Japanese film director. She was also known as Naomi Sento , with her former husband's surname. Many of her works have been documentaries, including Embracing, about her search for the father who abandoned her as a child, and Katatsumori, about the grandmother who raised her.
