Wisconsin is also rich in college sports, the World Championship Snowmobile Derby is held at Eagle River, Wisconsin. The world championship off-road racing event is held at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway, the Milwaukee Mile, an oval track opened in 1903, is the second oldest operating motorsports venue in the world, having hosted the IndyCar Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. Hank Aaron

Henry Louis Hank Aaron, nicknamed Hammer, or Hammerin Hank, is a retired American Major League Baseball right fielder who is currently the senior vice president of the Atlanta Braves. He played 21 seasons for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves in the National League and 2 seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League, Aaron held the MLB record for career home runs for 33 years, and he still holds several MLB offensive records. He hit 24 or more home runs every year from 1955 through 1973, in 1999, The Sporting News ranked Aaron fifth on its 100 Greatest Baseball Players list. Aaron was born and raised in and around Mobile, Alabama, Aaron had seven siblings, including Tommie Aaron, who later played in MLB with him. Aaron appeared briefly in the Negro American League and in minor league baseball before starting his major league career and he played late in Negro league history, by his final MLB season, Aaron was the last Negro league baseball player on a major league roster. Aaron played the vast majority of his MLB games in right field, in his last two seasons, he was primarily a designated hitter. Aaron was an NL All-Star for 20 seasons and an AL All-Star for 1 season, Aaron holds the record for the most seasons as an All-Star, the most All-Star Game selections, and is tied with Willie Mays and Stan Musial for the most All-Star Games played. He was a Gold Glove winner for three seasons, in 1957, he was the NL Most Valuable Player when the Milwaukee Braves won the World Series. He won the NL Player of the Month award in May 1958, Aaron holds the MLB records for the most career runs batted in, extra base hits, and total bases. Aaron is also in the top five for career hits and runs and he is one of only four players to have at least seventeen seasons with 150 or more hits. Aaron is in place in home runs and at-bats. At the time of his retirement, Aaron held most of the games key career power hitting records, since his retirement, Aaron has held front office roles with the Atlanta Braves. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, in 1999, MLB introduced the Hank Aaron Award to recognize the top offensive players in each league. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002 and he was named a 2010 Georgia Trustee by the Georgia Historical Society in recognition of accomplishments that reflect the ideals of Georgias founders. Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama, to Herbert Aaron, Sr. Tommie Aaron, one of his brothers, also went on to play Major League Baseball. By the time Aaron retired, he and his brother held the record for most career home runs by a pair of siblings and they were also the first siblings to appear in a League Championship Series as teammates. While he was born in a section of Mobile referred to as Down the Bay, Aaron grew up in a poor family. His family could not afford baseball equipment, so he practiced by hitting bottle caps with sticks and he would create his own bats and balls out of materials he found on the streets

Vince Lombardi

Vincent Thomas Vince Lombardi was an American football player, coach, and executive in the National Football League. The NFLs Super Bowl trophy is named in his honor and he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971, the year after his death. Lombardi, while considered by many to be the greatest coach in history, is more significantly recognized as one of the greatest coaches. Lombardi began his career as an assistant and later as a head coach at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Lombardi was born on June 11,1913 in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn to Enrico Harry Lombardi, Harrys mother and father, Vincenzo and Michelina, emigrated from Salerno, Italy. Matties father and mother, Anthony and Loretta, emigrated from Vietri di Potenza, Harry had three siblings and Matilda had twelve. Vince would be the oldest of five children, Madeleine, Harold, Claire, the entire Lombardi and Izzo clan settled in Sheepshead Bay. Matildas father, Anthony, opened up a shop in Sheepshead Bay before the turn of the century. At about the time of Lombardis birth, Harry, and his brother, Eddie, throughout the Great Depression, Harrys shop did well and his family prospered. Lombardi grew up in a diverse, middle-class neighborhood. Church attendance was mandatory for the Lombardis on Sundays, Mass would be followed with an equally compulsory few hours of dinner with friends, extended family members, and local clergy. He was a boy at St. Outside of their neighborhood, the Lombardi children were subject to the rampant discrimination that existed at the time against Italian immigrants. As a child, Lombardi helped his father at his meat cutting business, at the age of 12 he started playing in an uncoached but organized football league in Sheepshead Bay. Lombardi graduated from the grade at P. S. He then matriculated with the Cathedral Preparatory Seminary a part of Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Brooklyn, at Cathedral, he played on the schools baseball and basketball teams, but his performance was hindered by his poor athleticism and eyesight. Against school rules, he continued to play football off-campus throughout his studies at Cathedral, after completing four years at Cathedral he decided not to pursue the priesthood. He enrolled at St. Francis Preparatory high school for the fall of 1932, there he became a Charter Member of Omega Gamma Delta fraternity

Oscar Robertson

Oscar Palmer Robertson, nicknamed The Big O, is an American former National Basketball Association player who played for the Cincinnati Royals and Milwaukee Bucks. The 6 ft 5 in,205 lb Robertson played point guard and was a 12-time All-Star, 11-time member of the All-NBA Team and he is the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season. In the 1970–71 NBA season, he was a key player on the team brought the Bucks their only NBA title. His playing career, especially during school and college, was plagued by racism. He also was voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and he was ranked as the 36th best American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN. Robertson was also a part of Robertson v. National Basketball Assn of 1970. Robertson was born in poverty in Charlotte, Tennessee, and grew up in a housing project in Indianapolis. In contrast to other boys who preferred to play baseball. Because his family could not afford to buy a basketball, he learned how to shoot by tossing tennis balls, Robertson attended Crispus Attucks High School, an all-black high school. At Crispus Attucks, Robertson was coached by Ray Crowe, whose emphasis on a sound game had a positive effect on Robertsons style of play. As a sophomore in 1954, he starred on an Attucks team that lost in the finals to eventual state champions Milan. When Robertson was a junior, Crispus Attucks dominated its opposition, going 31–1 and winning the 1955 state championship, the state championships were also the first ever by an Indianapolis team in the Hoosier tourney. After their championship wins, the team was paraded through town in a regular tradition. Robertson stated, thought the blacks were going to tear the town up, Robertson scored 24.0 points per game in his senior season and was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1956. After his graduation year, Robertson enrolled at the University of Cincinnati. Robertson continued to excel while at the University of Cincinnati, recording an incredible scoring average of 33.8 points per game, the third highest in college history. In each of his three years, he won the scoring title, was named an All-American, and was chosen College Player of the Year. Robertsons stellar play led the Bearcats to a 79–9 overall record during his three varsity seasons, including two Final Four appearances, however, a championship eluded Robertson, something that would become a repeated occurrence in his professional career

Bart Starr

Bryan Bartlett Bart Starr is a former professional American football player and coach. He played quarterback for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League from 1956 through 1971, Starr was the only quarterback in history to lead a team to five league championships, before Tom Brady tied the record during the 2016 season. Bart also led his team to victories in two Super Bowls, I and II, as the Packers head coach, he was less successful, compiling a 52–76–3 record from 1975 through 1983. Starr was named the Most Valuable Player of the first two Super Bowls and earned four Pro Bowl selections and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Packers Hall of Fame in 1977. He won the league MVP award in 1966, Starr has the highest postseason passer rating of any quarterback in NFL history and a postseason record of 9–1. His career completion percentage of 57.4 was an NFL best when he retired in 1972, Starr also held the Packers franchise record for games played for 32 years, through the 2003 season. Starr played college football at the University of Alabama and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 17th round of the 1956 NFL draft. Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Starrs parents were Benjamin Bryan Starr, a foreman with the state highway department. Starr’s early life was marked by hardships, shortly after the start of World War II, his fathers reserve unit was activated and his was first in the U. S. Army but transferred to the U. S. Air Force for his military career. Starr had a brother, Hilton E. Bubbly Starr. In 1946, Bubbly stepped on a dog bone while playing in the yard, Starr’s relationship with his father deteriorated after Hilton’s passing. He was a child who rarely showed his emotions and his father pushed Starr to develop more of a mean streak. Starr attended Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, and tried out for the team in his sophomore year. His father gave him the option of playing football or working in the family garden, in his junior year, the starting quarterback broke his leg and Starr became the starter. He led Lanier to an undefeated season, in his senior season, Starr was named all-state and All-American, and received college scholarship offers from universities across the country. He seriously considered the University of Kentucky, coached by Bear Bryant, Starrs high school sweetheart, Cherry Louise Morton, was planning to attend Auburn and Starr wished to attend a college close to her. Starr changed his mind and committed to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as the Korean War was fought during Starr’s freshman year, the Southeastern Conference – of which Alabama is a part – allowed freshmen to play varsity ball. Starr did not start for Alabama his freshman year, but did play enough minutes to earn a varsity letter and his high point of the season was in the Orange Bowl, where in quarterback relief he completed eight of 12 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown

An esplanade or promenade is a long, open, level area, usually next to a river or large body of water, where people may walk. The original meaning of esplanade was a large, open, level area outside fortress or city walls to provide fields of fire for the fortress guns. In modern usage the space allows people to walk for recreational purposes, esplanades are often on sea fronts, esplanades became popular in Victorian times when it was fashionable to visit seaside resorts. A promenade, often abbreviated to Prom, was an area where people - couples and families especially - would go to walk for a while in order to be seen, in North America, esplanade has another meaning, being also a median dividing a roadway or boulevard. Sometimes they are just strips of grass, or some may have gardens, some roadway esplanades may be used as parks with a walking/jogging trail and benches. Esplanade and promenade are used interchangeably. The derivation of promenade indicates a place intended for walking, though many modern promenades and esplanades also allow bicycles. Some esplanades also include large boulevards or avenues where cars are permitted, a similar term with the same meaning in the eastern coastal region of Spain is rambla, but more widely referred to as paseo marítimo, paseo or explanada in the Hispanic world. Milwaukee

Milwaukee is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin and the fifth-largest city in the Midwestern United States. The county seat of Milwaukee County, it is on Lake Michigans western shore, Milwaukees estimated population in 2015 was 600,155. Milwaukee is the cultural and economic center of the Milwaukee–Racine–Waukesha Metropolitan Area with an estimated population of 2,046,692 as of 2015. Ranked by estimated 2014 population, Milwaukee is the 31st largest city in the United States, the first Europeans to pass through the area were French Catholic missionaries and fur traders. In 1818, the French Canadian explorer Solomon Juneau settled in the area, large numbers of German immigrants helped increase the citys population during the 1840s, with Poles and other immigrants arriving in the following decades. Known for its traditions, Milwaukee is currently experiencing its largest construction boom since the 1960s. In addition, many new skyscrapers, condos, lofts and apartments have been built in neighborhoods on and near the lakefront, the word Milwaukee may come from the Potawatomi language minwaking, or Ojibwe language ominowakiing, Gathering place. The first recorded inhabitants of the Milwaukee area are the Menominee, Fox, Mascouten, Sauk, Potawatomi, Ojibwe, many of these people had lived around Green Bay before migrating to the Milwaukee area around the time of European contact. In the second half of the 18th century, the Indians at Milwaukee played a role in all the wars on the American continent. During the French and Indian War, a group of Ojibwas, in the American Revolutionary War, the Indians around Milwaukee were some of the few Indians who remained loyal to the American cause throughout the Revolution. After American independence, the Indians fought the United States in the Northwest Indian War as part of the Council of Three Fires, during the War of 1812, Indians held a council in Milwaukee in June 1812, which resulted in their decision to attack Chicago. This resulted in the Battle of Fort Dearborn on August 15,1812, the War of 1812 did not end well for the Indians, and after the Black Hawk War in 1832, the Indians in Milwaukee signed their final treaty with the United States in Chicago in 1833. This paved the way for American settlement, Europeans had arrived in the Milwaukee area prior to the 1833 Treaty of Chicago. French missionaries and traders first passed through the area in the late 17th and 18th centuries, alexis Laframboise, in 1785, coming from Michilimackinac settled a trading post, therefore, he is the first European descent resident of the Milwaukee region. Early explorers called the Milwaukee River and surrounding lands various names, Melleorki, Milwacky, Mahn-a-waukie, Milwarck, for many years, printed records gave the name as Milwaukie. One story of Milwaukees name says, ne day during the thirties of the last century a newspaper calmly changed the name to Milwaukee, the spelling Milwaukie lives on in Milwaukie, Oregon, named after the Wisconsin city in 1847, before the current spelling was universally accepted. Milwaukee has three founding fathers, Solomon Juneau, Byron Kilbourn, and George H. Walker, Solomon Juneau was the first of the three to come to the area, in 1818. He was not the first European settler but founded a town called Juneaus Side, or Juneautown, in competition with Juneau, Byron Kilbourn established Kilbourntown west of the Milwaukee River and made sure the streets running toward the river did not join with those on the east side

Wisconsin Badgers

The Wisconsin Badgers are the athletic teams representing the University of Wisconsin–Madison. They compete as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level, the womens ice hockey team competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while the mens and lightweight womens crew team compete in the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. The athletic director is Barry Alvarez, former coach of the football team. The Badgers team colors are cardinal and white, and the mascot is named Buckingham U. The Badgers have several major facilities, including Camp Randall Stadium, the UW Field House. Wisconsin was dubbed the Badger State because of the miners who first settled there in the 1820s and 1830s. Without shelter in the winter, they had to live like badgers in tunnels burrowed into hillsides, the badger mascot was adopted by the University of Wisconsin in 1889. Bucky Badger, was chosen in a contest in 1949, the emblem, a scowling, strutting badger wearing a cardinal-and-white striped sweater, was designed by Art Evans in 1940 and updated in 2003. A live badger from Eau Claire was used at the first few games that year. For a time, the replaced the live badger with a live raccoon named Regdab. In 2006, Bucky Badger became a member of the Mascot Hall of Fames College Division. Wisconsins football program has been among the most successful in the Big Ten since the early 1990s, under Alvarez, the Badgers won three Big Ten Championships and three Rose Bowls. In the 2005 season, Alvarezs last year as coach, the Badgers defeated the Auburn Tigers 24-10, in 2006, Bret Bielema took over as head coach, posting a 12–1 record and defeating Arkansas 17-14, in the Capital One Bowl. On December 5,2012, Bielema announced his departure for Arkansas, stating, I just felt it was time for me to try and spread my wings, Bielema was Alvarezs handpicked successor, and he coached the Badgers in their return to the Rose Bowl. The Badgers are 11–10 in bowl games, and have made 14 bowl appearance in the past 15 seasons, the Badger football program has had two Heisman Trophy winners, fullback Alan Ameche in 1954, and running back Ron Dayne in 1999. They came close in the 2011–2012 season, with their running back Montee Ball, running back Melvin Gordon was runner-up in 2014. The Wisconsin Badgers football team plays its games at Camp Randall Stadium. Built in 1917, Camp Randall is the fourth-oldest college football stadium in the country and has a capacity of 80,321, the student section at Camp Randall is considered by many to be one of the best in all of college football

William Francis Bo Ryan, Jr. is an American former college basketball coach and player. He was the coach of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Badgers mens basketball team from 2001 to December 2015. Ryan served as the mens basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville from 1984 to 1999. On December 15,2015, Ryan announced his retirement, effective immediately, Ryan began playing basketball at a very young age. His father, Butch Ryan was already a legend in the area, coaching youth sports including basketball to under-privileged children in Chester, Butch taught him the skills to be a successful point guard, generally the position of the on-court team leader. He became a basketball player, leading his high school team to a 25–1 record in his senior year. In addition to basketball, Ryan was a high school quarterback, the center snapping him the ball was Ted Cottrell, who later served as a defensive coach and coordinator for a number of teams in the NFL. Ryan lettered in football, basketball and baseball, and was president of his class, after high school, Ryan starred as a point guard at Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. His love for the game drove him to remain involved with the sport, Ryans coaching career began in 1972 at Brookhaven Junior High School in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where for one year he worked as a history teacher and basketball head coach. After graduating from Wilkes University, Ryan began graduate work at Villanova University in Villanova, in 1973, Ryan began his collegiate coaching career at Dominican College of Racine in Racine, Wisconsin. He won a Coach of the Year award as head coach at Dominican. In 1974, Dominican College closed down, Ryan then became head coach at Sun Valley High School in Aston, Pennsylvania in 1974, where he was named conference coach of the year in 1976. His success at Dominic College and Sun Valley led to a job as assistant head coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison under head coaches Bill Cofield, after his stint as an assistant, Ryan accepted the head coaching position at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. From 1984 until 1999, Ryans Platteville team posted a 352–76 overall record, Ryan guided the UW–Platteville Pioneers to four national championships. He also won eight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and set a Division III scoring defense record in 1997, during Ryans tenure, UW-Platteville was the winningest NCAA mens basketball team of the 1990s with a 266-26 record. On January 27,2007, UW-Platteville officially honored Ryans 15-year tenure by naming the playing surface at Williams Fieldhouse Bo Ryan Court, Ryan, along with the 2007 Wisconsin Badgers team, attended the event. On the strength of his success at Platteville, Ryan was hired as coach at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for the 1999–2000 season. In his two seasons as coach, the team had its first back-to-back winning seasons in nearly a decade, Ryan also brought a 161 percent increase in home attendance at UWM, giving the program a new energy that continued into the tenure of his successor Bruce Pearl

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a club of the leagues National Football Conference North division. They are also the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, organized and it is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games are played at Lambeau Field, the Packers are the last vestige of small town teams common in the NFL during the 1920s and 1930s. Founded in 1919 by Earl Curly Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and the Midwest. They joined the American Professional Football Association, the forerunner of todays NFL, the Packers have won 13 league championships, the most in NFL history, with nine NFL titles before the Super Bowl era and four Super Bowl victories. They won the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and 1968 and were the only NFL team to defeat the American Football League prior to the AFL–NFL merger. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is named after the Packers head coach of the same name and their two further Super Bowl wins came in 1997 and 2011. The Packers are long-standing adversaries of the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions, the Bears–Packers rivalry is one of the oldest in NFL history, dating back to 1921. The Green Bay Packers were founded on August 11,1919 by former high-school football rivals Earl Curly Lambeau, Lambeau solicited funds for uniforms from his employer, the Indian Packing Company. He was given $500 for uniforms and equipment, on the condition that the team be named for its sponsor, the Green Bay Packers have played in their original city longer than any other team in the NFL. On August 27,1921, the Packers were granted a franchise in the new pro football league that had been formed the previous year. Financial troubles plagued the team and the franchise was forfeited within the year, before Lambeau found new financial backers and these backers, known as the Hungry Five, formed the Green Bay Football Corporation. After a near-miss in 1927, Lambeaus squad claimed the Packers first NFL title in 1929 with an undefeated 12–0–1 campaign, among the many impressive accomplishments of these years was the Packers streak of 29 consecutive home games without defeat, an NFL record which still stands. The arrival of end Don Hutson from Alabama in 1935 gave Lambeau, credited with inventing pass patterns, Hutson would lead the league in receptions eight seasons and spur the Packers to NFL championships in 1936,1939 and 1944. An iron man, Hutson played both ways, leading the league in interceptions as a safety in 1940, Hutson claimed 18 NFL records when he retired in 1945, many of which still stand. In 1951, his number 14 was the first to be retired by the Packers, after Hutsons retirement, Lambeau could not stop the Packers slide. He purchased a large lodge near Green Bay for team members, rockwood Lodge was the home of the 1946-1949 Packers, though the 1947 and 1948 seasons produced a record of 12-10-1, and 1949 was even worse at 3-9

Donald Driver

Donald Jerome Driver is a former American football wide receiver, a New York Times bestselling author, and the season 14 Dancing with the Stars champion. After playing college football for Alcorn State University, Driver was picked by the Green Bay Packers in the round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Driver spent his entire 14-season National Football League career with the Packers and holds the franchises all-time records for most career receptions, Driver was a member of the Packers team that won Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Every year in Cleveland, Driver holds the Donald Driver Football Camp for local kids which is held at the Cleveland High School Football field, Driver was born in Houston, Texas, on February 2,1975. He was the child of five siblings. Drivers parents, Marvin Driver Jr. and Faye Gray, divorced when he was just a young boy, Donald had a tough childhood living out of a U-Haul truck for a period of time during his early teens, after a collection agency confiscated his familys possessions. Donald spent multiple nights in motel rooms that his mother had purchased with food stamps, Driver and his older brother Marvin III, began stealing cars and selling drugs during their teenage years in order make it from day to day. Driver was quoted by USA Today stating, You try to do anything you can to provide for your family, at the age of 14 years, Donald would move in with his grandmother, Betty Lofton. This was the point of time where his life started to turn around, Driver shone as an athlete early in his years at Milby High School in Houston. He lettered four times each in track, football, basketball and baseball and he was a Texas All-State honorable mention in football, where he played at the wide receiver, defensive back, and kickoff return positions. Driver attended Alcorn State University in Mississippi, where he lettered in football and track & field. He finished his football career at Alcorn State with 88 receptions for 1993 yards. He was a five-time Athlete of the Year in his conference for his track, Driver is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He competed for the Alcorn State Braves track team, where he excelled in the high jump and he leaped 2.30 meters in the high jump,15.62 meters in the triple jump and 7.75 meters in the long jump. Driver was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 7th round of the 1999 NFL Draft with the 213th overall pick and he spent his entire career with the Packers. Known as one of the most consistent wide receivers in the game, Driver was solid throughout his career, Driver had the most catches in the NFL in the middle of the field in 2006. He set a career best for yards on November 12,2006, Driver finished the 2006 season in the top five of the league in reception yardage with 1,295 yards. He also recorded the most receptions in his career with 92 of them, on December 16,2007, during a 33–14 victory over the St. Louis Rams, veteran Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre broke Dan Marinos all-time record mark of 61,361 career passing yards

Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Memorial Trophy, is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work and it is presented by the Heisman Trophy Trust in early December before the postseason bowl games. The award was created by the Downtown Athletic Club in 1935 to recognize the most valuable football player east of the Mississippi. After the death in October 1936 of the Clubs athletic director, John Heisman, Heisman had been active in college athletics as a football player, a head football, basketball, and baseball coach, and an athletic director. It is the oldest of several awards in college football, including the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award. Ronald Dayne is a former professional American football player who was a running back in the National Football League for eight seasons. Dayne played college football for the University of Wisconsin and won the 1999 Heisman Trophy and he was a first round pick of the New York Giants in the 2000 NFL Draft, and also played professionally for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans of the NFL. Bowl statistics accounted for, Dayne is the leader in rushing yards in NCAA Division I FBS history. When Dayne was a child, his parents divorced, and he was sent to live with relatives and his athleticism and speed made him a star running back at Overbrook High School in his hometown of Pine Hill, New Jersey, and he was heavily recruited by many colleges. He also excelled at track and field, in 1995 he won the New Jersey Meet of Champions, setting a new meet record in the discus throw. In 1996 he won titles in both the shot put and discus, breaking both meet records won the Meet of Champions in both events and breaking his own meet record in the discus. He has the fifth-best distance ever thrown in the discus by a U. S. high school athlete at 216 feet,11 inches, eventually, coach Barry Alvarez promised Dayne a tailback position and persuaded him to come to play for the University of Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he played for the Wisconsin Badgers football team from 1996 to 1999, known as the Great Dayne and The Dayne Train throughout college, Dayne was the starting running back all four years at Wisconsin. Not a flashy or boisterous player, Dayne was a workman-like back and he had 1,220 carries during his career. Over his four seasons, Dayne set the NCAA Division I-A rushing record for yards in a career. He gained 1,863 yards as a freshman,1,421 as a sophomore,1,325 as a junior and he finally broke the record in the final game of the 1999 season against Iowa. Dayne ended his career with 6,397 rushing yards, eclipsing the record set the year by Ricky Williams of Texas. Dayne excelled in three games for Wisconsin. He rushed for 246 to lead the Badgers to a 38–10 victory in the 1996 Copper Bowl against Utah, garnering MVP honors. Dayne won MVP honors in both games, becoming only the player in the history of the Rose Bowl to repeat as MVP —. Sherri Steinhauer is an American professional golfer who plays on the Legends Tour. She retired from the LPGA Tour in 2012 after a 26-year career and she was born in Madison, Wisconsin and attended The University of Texas at Austin. Her rookie season on the LPGA Tour was 1986 and she has won eight tournaments on the Tour, including two major championships, the 1992 du Maurier Classic and 2006 Womens British Open. She also won the British Open in 1998 and 1999 before it became an LPGA major, Steinhauer finished as high as seventh on the money list twice. The first time came in 1994 where Steinhauer won the Sprint Championship in addition to having seven other top 10 finishes, Steinhauer also qualified for the Solheim Cup for the first time in 1994. She would also make the team in 1998,2000, and 2007, with wins at the Japan Airlines Big Apple Classic and the Weetabix Womens British Open, Steinhauer finished seventh on the money list again in 1999. She also took part that year in a six player sudden playoff at the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic in which Se Ri Pak defeated Steinhauer, Karrie Webb, Carin Koch, Mardi Lunn and it was the largest playoff in LPGA Tour history. Steinhauer was a student of golf instructor Manuel de la Torre and she returned to the Tour in 2010. Steinhauer announced her retirement after missing the cut at the 2011 Canadian Womens Open and she returned in 2012 at the Kia Classic and also played that year in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Charles Cameron Woodson is a former American football player. He played college football for Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to a championship in 1997. Woodson, a player who played both offense and defense, won the Heisman Trophy in the same year. To date, he is the last player to win the Heisman who was not a back or quarterback. Woodson played the majority of his career at cornerback, but switched to safety later in his career, Woodson was drafted by the Raiders fourth overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. In his first season with Oakland, Woodson was selected as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press and he was named to the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro recognition three consecutive times. Woodson later battled several nagging injuries in consecutive seasons in Oakland, on April 26,2006, Woodson signed a seven-year, $52 million contract with the Green Bay Packers who he would later win Super Bowl XLV with over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his second season in Green Bay, the injury problems returned and he was the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2009 NFL season. Woodson is one of the few players in NFL history to play in a Pro Bowl in three different decades and he is currently sixth on the all time interceptions list with 65, and is tied with Rod Woodson and Darren Sharper for most career defensive touchdowns with 13. He also is second all time in interceptions returned for touchdowns, after he retired in 2015, he signed with ESPN in 2016. Woodson was born in Fremont, Ohio, as a senior at Ross High School, Woodson was named Ohios Mr. Football. He finished his school football career with the schools records for rushing yards. In his senior season he was a USA Today All-America selection and Parade High School All-American, all colleges recruited Woodson as a running back, while Michigan recruited him as a defensive back. In addition to playing football, Woodson also played basketball and competed in track & field, Woodson attended the University of Michigan, where he played for coach Lloyd Carrs Michigan Wolverines football team from 1995 to 1997. Allan Huber Bud Selig is an American baseball executive who currently serves as the Commissioner Emeritus of Baseball. Previously, he served as the ninth Commissioner of Baseball and he initially served as the acting commissioner beginning in 1992 before being named the official commissioner in 1998. Selig oversaw baseball through the 1994 strike, the introduction of the card, interleague play. He was instrumental in organizing the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and he is credited for the financial turnaround of baseball during his tenure with a 400 percent increase in the revenue of MLB and annual record breaking attendance. Army before working with his father who owned a car leasing business in Milwaukee, Selig continues to be involved in the automotive industry, serving as president of the Selig Executive Lease Company. Lino Dante Alan Ameche /əˈmiːtʃiː/, nicknamed The Iron Horse, or simply The Horse, was an American football player who played six seasons with the Baltimore Colts in the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and won the Heisman Trophy during his season in 1954. Ameche was elected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons in the league and he is famous for scoring the winning touchdown in overtime in the 1958 NFL Championship Game against the New York Giants, labeled The Greatest Game Ever Played. With colleague and former Colts teammate Gino Marchetti, Ameche founded the Ginos Hamburgers chain and he also founded the Baltimore-based Ameches Drive-in restaurants. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Ameches parents were Italian immigrants who came to the United States in the late 1930s, the family then returned to Kenosha, where he attended Kenosha High School. Ameche was a cousin of noted actors Don Ameche and Jim Ameche, Ameche earned All-America honors at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he played linebacker as well as fullback in single-platoon days. In four years as a Badger, he gained 3,212 yards, then the NCAA record, scored 25 touchdowns and he played in the programs first bowl game, the 1953 Rose Bowl, as a sophomore, rushing for 133 yards on 28 carries. Ameche won the Heisman Trophy in 1954, the first player to do so in program history, Ameche was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1967, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975, and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2004. Ameche was the third selection of the 1955 NFL draft. Named NFL Rookie of the Year in 1955, he was a four-time Pro Bowler, Ameche averaged 4.2 yards per carry over his career, and held the record for rushing yards in his first three NFL games until Carnell Cadillac Williams passed it in 2005. Ameche may be best remembered for his role in the 1958 NFL Championship Game at Yankee Stadium, Ameche scored the winning touchdown for the Colts on a one-yard run with 6,45 left in overtime as the Colts beat the Giants, 23-17. It was his second touchdown of the day as he scored a TD on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. His touchdown was the last in championship history until Super Bowl LI, due to an Achilles tendon injury in December 1960, Ameche finished a relatively short six-season NFL career with 4,045 rushing yards,101 receptions for 733 yards and 44 touchdowns. He is one of five players named to the National Football League 1950s All-Decade Team not elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 2015, the Professional Football Researchers Association named Ameche to the PRFA Hall of Very Good Class of 2015 Ameche had undergone bypass surgery at age 46 in 1979. Barry Lee Alvarez is a former American football coach who is currently the athletic director at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He served as the football coach at Wisconsin for 16 seasons, from 1990 to 2005. He has the longest head coaching tenure and the most wins in Wisconsin Badgers football history, Alvarez stepped down as head coach after the 2005 season, remaining as athletics director. Since retiring, Alvarez has served as head coach on two occasions. Alvarez was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2010, Barry Alvarez was born and raised in Langeloth, Pennsylvania, where his family settled after his grandparents immigrated to the United States from Spain. Alvarez intercepted a pass in a game played between the Cornhuskers and the Badgers in Madison, from 1979-1986 at Iowa, Alvarez would coach Linebackers such as, Leven Weiss, Todd Simonsen, Mel Cole, James Erb, Jonathan Hayes, and Larry Station. In 1987 he would coach LB Wes Pritchett, in 1988, he led the defense of Notre Dame whom finished 12-0 as national champions. They finished 3rd in points allowed on the season, some of the names he coached included DL Jeff Alm, LB Frank Stams, and DB Todd Lyght. In 1989, the Notre Dame defense finished 9th in points allowed, in 1990, Alvarez was named head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers. He inherited a program that had not had a season since 1984. Considering the awful state of the program hed inherited, Alvarez engineered a quick return to respectability. During his tenure, the Badgers won or shared three Big Ten titles and played in three Rose Bowls, winning all three of them and he also led the Badgers to 11 bowl games, before his arrival they had been to only six bowls in their entire history. The 1998 team notched the first 11-win season in school history, Alvarez retired for the first time at Wisconsin with a win over the Auburn Tigers in the 2006 Capital One Bowl. His record in games is 9–4. Alvarez is the only Big Ten Conference coach to win consecutive Rose Bowls. Prior to his first return as coach, his 3–0 Rose Bowl record as a full-time coach had placed him third on the list of undefeated Rose Bowl records, behind USCs Howard Jones. The Badgers lost that game to the Stanford Cardinal 20–14, dropping Alvarezs Rose Bowl record to 3-1, Alvarez is the only Big Ten coach with consecutive wins over the Ohio State Buckeyes during Jim Tressels coaching tenure there, those came in 2003 and 2004. Clarence Howeth Ginger Beaumont was an American center fielder in Major League Baseball who spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Braves. Fred Beell

Fred Beell was a German-born American professional wrestler and police officer. Fred Beell was born in West Prussia, Province of Prussia, when he was three years old, his family migrated to the United States, settling in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He attended Immanual Lutheran School as a child, and at the age of fourteen he began working at the Upham mill in Marshfield, Beell joined the United States Army, serving in the Spanish American War. After his military discharge, he married Anna Scheren, also of German descent, Beell first became a professional wrestler in the late 1890s, during a time when professional wrestlers would fight numerous exhibition matches each month, keeping them on the road constantly. He defeated Soren Hansen in April 1899, and later defeated John Berg that same year, on February 3,1900, Beell defeated Ed Adamson, winning $238.50 for the match. On April 9,1900, Beell defeated William West to become the Northwest Wrestling Champion and it was not until 1906 that he gained national attention, when he defeated Frank Gotch, the reigning American Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. He eventually quit wrestling in 1919 and became an officer in his adopted hometown of Marshfield in 1921. On August 5,1933, at around 3am, Beell, suspects were still on the scene. As he entered, the suspects began firing on Fyksen, who dropped to the ground and avoided injury, Beell, hearing the shots, left the vehicle to go to Fyksens aid. As he rounded the front of the car, the suspects exited the building, firing as they ran, four buckshot from a shotgun blast hit Beell in the head, without his being able to return fire, killing him instantly. The suspects then stole the vehicle, but abandoned it less than a mile away. They had stolen $1,550.00 in the burglary of a safe, Marshfield police chief William Paape organized a posse with Wood County, Wisconsin sheriff Martin Bey. One of the suspects, Edward Speed Gabriel, was hit by shots fired from Fyksen in the gun battle. Two other suspects, Joe Sleepy Joe Hogan and Elmer Digman were captured, Hogan received 25 years in prison for his part in the murder, while Digman received a life sentence. Currently, every year on the anniversary of Beells death, the Marshfield Police Department holds a ceremony in his honor, to date, he is the only Marshfield police officer to have been killed in the line of duty. At the time of his death, Beell was 57 years old and he is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield. Beell Stadium, home of the Marshfield Tigers football team, is named after him and he is also credited with popularizing the famed Beell Toss wrestling maneuver. Raymond Frederick Berres was an American catcher and pitching coach in Major League Baseball who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Bees/Braves and New York Giants. He provided fine catching, quality game-calling, and a throwing arm. Drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers from the Birmingham Barons in the 1933 Rule 5 draft, he debuted with Brooklyn in 1934 and he returned to the minor leagues in 1935, but became Brooklyns starting catcher when Lopez was traded to Boston in December 1935. His most productive season came as a 1936 rookie, when he posted career highs in batting average, hits, the Pittsburgh Pirates, short of catching, signed him a year later. Before the 1940 season, Berres was traded by Pittsburgh to the Boston Bees in exchange for Lopez, after backing up a series of Giants catchers for four seasons, he finished his career with that team in 1945. In an 11-season career, Berres was a.216 hitter with three runs and 78 runs batted in in 561 games played. After serving as a catcher for the Boston Braves, Berres was the pitching coach for the Chicago White Sox for nearly two decades, primarily under manager Lopez. During that time, he was a member of the 1959 American League champions, Berres died in his hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin from pneumonia at the age of 99. Bonnie Kathleen Blair is a retired American speedskater. She is one of the top skaters of her era, Blair competed for the United States in four Olympics, winning five gold medals and one bronze medal. Blair was born in Cornwall, New York to Charlie and Eleanor Blair and she was the youngest of six children and was raised in Champaign, Illinois. After graduating from Centennial High School in Champaign, she moved to the Milwaukee area to train with the United States national speed skating team, Blair appeared at her first Olympic games at age 19 in Sarajevo in 1984. She failed to medal but finished eighth in the 500 meters, at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Blair had her best start ever in the 500 meters, winning the gold medal in world record time of 39.10 seconds. She also won the bronze in the 1,000 meters, Blair won the gold in both the 500 and 1,000 meters at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. Blair took advantage of a change of Olympic rules, in 1986, the International Olympic Committee voted to stage the Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics in alternating four year cycles. Thus, the next Winter Games would be held in February 1994 rather than in February 1996. The 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, were a coronation of sorts for Blair, She again won gold in the 500 meters and 1,000 meters races, in dominating fashion. Blair finished 0.36 seconds ahead of the second best time in the 500 meters, in the process she became the first American woman to win five gold medals. After the 1994 Olympics, Blair continued to compete, in March 1994, Blair set another world record in the 500 meters, becoming the first female to complete the race in under 39 seconds. On March 18,1995, she retired and she also was Female Athlete of the Year as selected by the Associated Press in 1994. Blair also won the World Cup points championship 11 times, Blair also tried track cycle racing, and was coached by former speed skater and cycling world champion Connie Paraskevin. Blair also competed in speed skating, becoming the Overall Short-track World Champion in 1986. She is a member of the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, in 2004, she was elected to the United States Olympic Hall of Fame. At the time of her induction, Blair was the most decorated United States Winter Olympian of all time with 5 gold and she was awarded a star on The Flag for Hope on September 29,2015 in recognition of her outstanding Speed Skating Career and philanthropic efforts. He played college football for Gonzaga University, where he earned the nickname Gray Ghost of Gonzaga. Drafted by the Packers in 1941, Canadeo played a multitude of roles, including running back, quarterback, defensive back, punter, before the war, Canadeo was a triple-threat halfback for the Packers, leading the team in rushing and passing in 1943. When he returned from the war in 1946 he served primarily as a running back and he retired as the Packers all-time rushing yards leader, and as of 2016 ranks fourth in franchise history in that category. Canadeos number 3 was retired by the Packers immediately following his retirement as a player and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974. Canadeo played college football at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, Canadeo, of Italian ancestry, was named an outstanding Italian American athlete for 1939 by the National Italian American Civic League. Others honored included Joe DiMaggio of Major League Baseball and golfer Gene Sarazen, as a senior Canadeo starred in Gonzagas 13–7 upset win over the heavily favored University of Detroit. The University dropped the program in 1941, so he was the last Gonzaga alumni to play pro football. He also boxed for the Bulldogs during his year, and was named team captain. Canadeo was not particularly fast or elusive, and was smaller than average NFL players even for his time, however, he was a determined and tenacious player. Contemporary Jim Benton called him one of the three toughest players to tackle, alongside Frank Sinkwich and Steve Van Buren and he was also versatile, playing multiple positions on offense, defense, and special teams. This versatility caused Green Bay Packers head coach Curly Lambeau to take notice, Canadeo was selected by the Packers in the ninth round with the 77th overall pick of the 1941 NFL Draft, held in December 1940. By August 13th, Canadeo was one of seven players to sign a contract with the team out of the twenty Green Bay had drafted. Most of the remaining unsigned players either joined the military or chose not to professional football. Lambeau looked to use Canadeo to bolster a backfield that included aging stars Clarke Hinkle, before the season, Canadeo competed with Herber and Cecil Isbell for the starting quarterback role. He starred in a game against the New York Giants, as he. Herber was waived by the Packers at the end of training camp and Isbell became the Packers quarterback, while Canadeo had a reserve role in the offense during his rookie season. That season, he played in the first ever NFL playoff game, as a backup to Isbell in 1942, Canadeo passed for 310 yards and rushed for 272 more. Cecil Celester Cooper, nicknamed Coop, is a former first baseman in Major League Baseball and the former manager of the Houston Astros. From 1971 through 1987, Cooper played for the Boston Red Sox and he batted and threw left-handed, and attended Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. In a 17-season career, Cooper posted a.298 batting average with 241 home runs and 1125 runs batted in in 1896 games and he was No.17 with the Boston Red Sox, and No.15 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Cooper was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 1968 draft, before the 1977 season, he was sent to the Milwaukee Brewers in the same trade that brought George Scott back to Boston. A five-time All-Star, Cooper hit.300 or more from 1977 to 1983 and his most productive season came in 1980, when he hit a career-high.352, and he also led the league in RBIs and total bases. In 1983 Cooper hit.307 with 30 home runs and a league-leading and he also posted three seasons with 200-plus hits, in 1980,1982 and 1983, finished fifth in the AL MVP vote, and was named the Brewers team MVP in three seasons. An excellent defensive first baseman, he was a two-time Gold Glove winner and he also won the Silver Slugger Award in three straight years, the only other Brewer to have done so is Ryan Braun. Cooper concluded his Major League career with 11 seasons as a Brewer, Cooper holds the Milwaukee franchise records for hits. Cooper held the record for RBIs in a season with 126 until Prince Fielder broke that record on September 19,2009 against the Houston Astros. Through 2011 he was one of three Brewers who have had four 100-RBI seasons, along with Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, in 1983 he was honored with the Roberto Clemente Award, and in 2002 he was inducted into the Brewers Walk of Fame. Following the conclusion of his career, he worked in several capacities in the Brewers organization. He was named bench coach for Milwaukee in 2002 and also managed the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians in 2003–04 and he returned to the Major League coaching ranks in 2005 as a bench coach for the Houston Astros. On August 27,2007, he was named the manager of the Astros following the firing of Phil Garner. Coopers previous managerial experience was at Class AAA Indianapolis, the Milwaukee Brewers top farm club, Cooper had a record of 130–156, finishing fourth in 2003 and third in 2004. Gus Dorais

Charles Emile Gus Dorais was an American football player and coach of football, basketball, and baseball. Dorais played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was an All-American in 1913 at quarterback, and then played professionally with the Fort Wayne Friars and Massillon Tigers. He was the coach at Columbia College in Dubuque, Iowa, Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. He was also the coach of the National Football Leagues Detroit Lions from 1943 to 1947. In addition, Dorais was the basketball coach at Notre Dame, Gonzaga, and Detroit. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1954, born and raised in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Dorais arrived at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in the summer of 1910 at 5 ft 7 in and 145 lb. He started four seasons for the Fighting Irish at quarterback, and that preceding summer, Dorais and teammate Knute Rockne worked as lifeguards and busboys at Cedar Point Resort at Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio. During their free time there, the story goes, the duo practiced passing on the beach with Dorais throwing to Rockne, an end. We mastered the technique of losing the football with hands relaxed and tried to master the more difficult feat of catching it with one hand, the Irish, 17–1–3 in Dorais first three seasons as a starter, outscored their first three opponents in 1913 by a margin of 169–7. In 1952, Dorais himself tried to set the record straight, Dorais first completed a pass to Rockne two seasons before in 1911. But against Army in 1913, Dorais, an Irish co-captain, at the time, his 40-yard pass to Rockne was the longest pass ever completed. After taking a 14–13 halftime lead, Notre Dame pulled away from a confused Army team for a 35–13 victory that changed the landscape of college football and lifted the Irish out of obscurity. From that point forward, no longer was the pass a obscure weapon. The press and the football public hailed this new game, and Notre Dame received credit as the originator of a style of play that we simply systematized, in addition to playing quarterback, Dorais was also the teams placekicker. Dorais and Rockne were roommates at Notre Dame, and in their coaching days, Dorais served as head coach at Columbia College from 1914 to 1917, then was an assistant to Rockne at Notre Dame in 1919. He went west to Spokane in 1920 to become coach at Gonzaga University for five years. He also was the coach of the basketball and baseball teams through their 1925 seasons. Burleigh Grimes

Burleigh Arland Grimes was an American professional baseball player, and the last pitcher officially permitted to throw the spitball. Grimes made the most of this advantage and he won 270 games and he was elected to the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1954, and to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. Born in Emerald, Wisconsin, Grimes was the first child of Nick Grimes, a farmer and former day laborer, and the former Ruth Tuttle, the daughter of a former Wisconsin legislator. Having previously played baseball for local teams, Nick Grimes managed the Clear Lake Yellow Jackets. Burleigh Grimes also participated in boxing as a child and he made his professional debut in 1912 for the Eau Claire Commissioners of the Minnesota–Wisconsin League. He played in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1913 for the Ottumwa Packers in the Central Association, Grimes played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1916 and 1917. Before the 1918 season, he was sent to the Brooklyn Dodgers in a multiplayer trade, when the spitball was banned 97 years ago in 1920, he was named as one of the 17 established pitchers who were allowed to continue to throw the pitch. According to Baseball Digest, the Phillies were able to hit him because they knew when he was throwing the spitter, a batboy solved the mystery by pointing out that Burleighs cap was too tight. It sounded silly, but he was right, the tighter cap would wiggle when Grimes flexed his facial muscles to prepare the spitter. He got a cap a half-size larger and the Phillies were on their own after that and he then pitched for the New York Giants, the Pirates again, the Boston Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs before the 1932 season in exchange for Hack Wilson and he returned to the Cardinals in 1933 and 1934, then moved to the Pirates and the New York Yankees. Grimes was nicknamed Ol Stubblebeard, related to his habit of not shaving on days in which he was going to pitch, at the time of his retirement, he was the last of the 17 spitballers left in the league. He had acquired a lasting reputation for his temperament. He is listed in the Baseball Hall of Shame series for having thrown a ball at the batter in the on-deck circle and his friends and supporters note that he was consistently a kind man when off the diamond. Others claim he showed an attitude to many people who got on his bad side. He would speak only to his best friend Ivy Olson in the dugout. Schroeders identity was not well known among many Dodger players, as many say he was just a guy from the neighborhood. Charlie Grimm

Charles John Grimm, nicknamed Jolly Cholly, was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman, most notably for the Chicago Cubs, he was also a radio sports commentator. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates early in his career, but was traded to the Cubs in 1925, born in St. Louis, Missouri, Grimm was known for being outgoing and chatty, even singing old-fashioned songs while accompanying himself on the banjo. As a manager for the Cubs, he led the team to National League championships in 1932,1935 and 1945. He also served as the Cubs Director of Player Personnel, then the title for general manager. However, Grimm was not comfortable in his front-office post and resigned in February 1950 to manage a Double A team, Grimm was also a major baseball figure in Milwaukee. He was hired by Bill Veeck to manage his Milwaukee Brewers, then the Cubs top farm team and he returned to the Brewers in 1951 when they were a farm team of the Boston Braves. He was highly successful as a manager during each term, winning the regular season American Association title in 1943 and 1951, and the playoff championship in 1951. On May 30,1952, Grimm was promoted from Milwaukee to manager of the big league Braves and he then managed the Milwaukee Braves for their first three years after their move to Wisconsin in March 1953. Being of German extraction, he was popular in the Beer City, Grimm had done play-by-play in the past, so he gave it one more go in 1960, before stepping back to the ranks of coaching and then front office duties. It was in 1961 that Wrigley began his College of Coaches, one of the Cubs coaches during that 5-year experiment was baseballs first black coach, Buck ONeil. Grimm finished with a record of 1,287 wins and 1,067 losses in the regular season, after his retirement from baseball, he lived adjacent to Lake Koshkonong, near Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Grimm died in Scottsdale, Arizona at age 85, from cancer and his widow was granted permission to spread his ashes on Wrigley Field

Charles Archibald Archie Hahn was an American track athlete and one of the best sprinters in the early 20th century. Louis, which was attended by European athletes. In the first event at those Games, the 60 m, Hahn benefited from his start and won, making him a favorite for the remaining events he was entered in. His run in the 200 m final delivered him the gold, in his third event, he again outclassed the field, thus winning all sprint events. In 1906, the Milwaukee Meteor repeated his Olympic 100 m victory in Athens, a feat not equalled until 1988, after his running career, Hahn became a coach and wrote the classic book How to Sprint. At Virginia he led the Cavaliers to 12 state championships in 13 years and he died in 1955, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Hahn was elected to the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1959 and he was inducted into the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 1984 and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. Pat Harder

Marlin M. Pat Harder was an American football player, playing fullback and kicker. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993, after graduating from Washington High School, in Milwaukee, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Playing fullback for the Badgers, Harder led the Big Ten Conference in rushing and scoring in 1941. In 1942, Harder was part of a team that went 8–1–1, including a 17–7 victory over the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Harder left Wisconsin to join the United States Marine Corps in 1943 to fight in World War II, despite having a year of eligibility left when he left the Marines, Harder turned pro in 1946. Harder was drafted 2nd overall in the 1944 NFL Draft by the Chicago Cardinals, Harder was part of the Cardinals Million Dollar Backfield which also included quarterback Paul Christman and halfback Charley Trippi. He was the first player in history to score over 100 points in three consecutive years, which he did from 1947 to 1949, leading the league all three years. In 1947, the Cardinals won the NFL Championship, in the championship game, Harder kicked four extra points to help defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, 28–21. Harder was traded to the Detroit Lions in 1951 and he helped the Lions win back-to-back NFL Championships in 1952 and 1953. Harder retired from football in 1953. Harder served as an NFL official from 1966 to 1982, working as the umpire on the crew of legendary referee Jim Tunney wearing uniform number 88. The most famous game he worked came on December 23,1972 and he also served as vice-president of a car leasing company in Milwaukee. He died in Waukesha, Wisconsin on September 6,1992, Harder was posthumously inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2005, he was named to the Professional Football Researchers Association Hall of Very Good in the associations third HOVG class.
