The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars, it was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic. At the end of 2014, the second generation XC90 was introduced, it is based on a new global platform, called SPA for short. Both generations of the XC90 have won Motor Trend's SUV of the Year award in their debuts. In January 2001, Volvo débuted its Adventure Concept Car at the North American International Auto Show, to gauge reaction to the styling and features of its upcoming SUV. In November 2001, Volvo released a teaser image showing the frontal styling of the production version, named the XC90.
Notable as Volvo's first SUV model, the styling of the XC90 recalled the concept. In January 2002, the full XC90 unveiling occurred, at the North American International Auto Show. Production began in August 2002, after Volvo's traditional mid-year shutdown, with the first XC90s coming out of the Torslanda factory in Sweden. At its North American launch for the 2003 model year, the XC90 was presented with a choice of two trim levels, the 2.5 T and the T6. The 2.5 T was the entry level version and offered a 2.5-litre B5254T2 "T5" turbocharged inline-five engine, producing 208 hp and 236 lb⋅ft mated to an Aisin co-developed five-speed AW55-50/51 automatic. The T6 offered a 2.9-litre B6294T twin-turbocharged inline-six with 268 hp and 280 lb⋅ft mated to a GM-sourced, Volvo-modified four-speed 4T65EV/GT automatic. While the 2.5T came standard with front-wheel drive, a Haldex Traction all-wheel drive system was optional. The T6 was offered only with the AWD system. A Yamaha V8 engine was added in 2005.
This 4.4-litre Volvo B8444S engine produced 288 hp for the first few models upgraded to 311 hp and 325 lb⋅ft of torque. Volvo sold just over 40,000 XC90 units in North America that year; the XC90 won the North American Car of the Year award and Motor Trend magazine's Sport/Utility of the Year for 2003. The ex-host of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, has owned three of these vehicles, claims they were designed by someone who must've had children due to its practicality; the XC90 was updated for 2007 with rear and a revised interior. The 235 hp 3.2 L SI6 straight-6 engine replaced the 208 hp B524T2 straight-5 in the base model for the US market. The 2007 XC90 debuted in April 2006 at the New York Auto Show. For model year 2009, the XC90 received a new rear logo, featuring larger lettering with wider spaces between the "VOLVO" letters. In 2010, all XC90 models received painted wheel arches. In addition, a new, circular Volvo logo appeared on the front grille. For MY 2012, new LED tail-lights became available on certain models, although entry-level models retain the previous style.
For MY 2013, the XC90 received a cosmetic refresh that included standard LED daytime running lights and taillights, exterior revisions including body colour bumpers, rocker panels and silver trim replacing black plastic trim. The refreshed model went on sale during late spring 2012 with a base price of US$40,395 for a front-wheel drive base model. For the 2014 model year the base price is US$39,700. In early 2005 a special version called. Special blue colour, leather interior with contrast stitching and special interior trim. A total of 800 were made; the first generation Volvo XC90 continues to be sold in China as the XC Classic. It is being produced at the new Volvo factory located in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, with the necessary tooling shipped over from Sweden. Equipment levels were changed compared to the international versions and only one engine, a 2.5L turbo petrol 5-cylinder engine with 220 hp, is available. All XC Classic come with AWD as standard and either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
It is priced below the second generation XC90. The Volvo XC90's front end is designed to absorb frontal impacts and deflect any pedestrians up on to the hood of the vehicle rather than underneath the vehicle. Volvo has patented the unique frontal structure that features crumple zones, predetermined positions for the engine and other ancillaries during a frontal impact; the XC90's roof is reinforced with ultra-high-strength steel to help prevent a collapse in the passenger cavity in the event of a roll-over. This Volvo system is marketed as ROPS, is associated with the Roll Stability Control, electronic stability control, SIPS systems of Volvo to prevent and minimise accident forces; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration measures the roll-over risk of the 2013 XC90 as 17.9%. The max. sideway thrust is 0.77g. The XC90's rear structure has been designed to absorb impact energy, with occupants are protected by a whiplash protection system. Marketed as WHIPS, the system cradles the occupants during a rear-end collision.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Volvo XC90 their Top Safety Pick award. The XC90 was granted the IIHS's rating of "good" in front, side and roof strength tests and has Electronic Stability Control as standard equipment to receive the award; the industry-first Roll Stability Control was first introduced in XC90 in 2003. The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German automaker Audi, now in its fifth generation. As the successor to the Audi 100, the A6 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, is available in sedan and wagon configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7 and the C8; the related Audi A7 is a sportback version of the C7-series and C8-series A6, but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation. All generations of the A6 have offered either front-wheel drive or Torsen-based four-wheel drive, marketed by Audi as their quattro system. Second- and third-generation A6 models have shared their platform with the company's Allroad models. Both petrol and diesel versions of the A6 are offered; the wide range of engines available have power outputs ranging from 150 to 333 hp. These are inline 4-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged engines and more powerful 3-litre units in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.
Audi's executive car was named the Audi 100, was released in three successive generations. In 1994, the latest generation of the Audi 100 received a facelift and was renamed as the Audi A6, to fit in with Audi's new alphanumeric nomenclature; the exterior was changed only from the "C4" Audi 100 – new front and rear lights, new radiator grille with chassis and engine and transmission choices. The United Kingdom was the first market to receive the A6, as stock of RHD Audi 100s had run out before expected, before the rest of mainland Europe; the new engines for the A6 were 1.8-litre 20v inline four-cylinder, 2.0-litre 8v inline four-cylinder, 2.6-litre 12V V6 and 2.8-litre 30v V6 petrol engines, with the 2.3-litre inline five engine being dropped on most markets. For the diesel engines, an inline four 1.9 Turbocharged Direct Injection, the inline five 2.5 TDI were available. Until 1997, the A6 came with several different engines, two of them turbodiesel, most of them available with Audi's Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.
The A6 was available with Avant bodies. The C4 design was available with the following engines: Upon introducing the C4 series A6, Audi made small revisions to what was known as the Audi S4, renaming it the Audi S6; as this was the first S6 model from Audi, it is referred to as the Ur-S6, derived from the German augmentive, "Ursprünglich". It was available as both a saloon/sedan, an "Avant" to European and United States customers, but only as a saloon in Canada and Australia. From its launch in late 1994, the Audi S6 was powered by a 2,226 cubic centimetres turbocharged inline five-cylinder petrol engine with a Bosch Motronic electronic engine control unit, producing a motive power output of 169 kW at 5,900 rpm and 326 N⋅m at around 1,950 rpm, on high octane "Super Plus" 98RON unleaded petrol; this engine gave the S6 a top speed of 235 km/h, allowed it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The vehicle was available with a standard six-speed manual transmission, Audi's dynamic Torsen T-1 quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.
Audi made a high-performance, 4.2-litre V8 engine with a Bosch KE-Motronic ECU available as an option in the original European S4s, made the decision to continue to do so with the S6, making a 213 kW version of the 4.2 available as an optional upgrade over the 2.2-litre inline five-cylinder turbo. Unlike the five-cylinder turbocharged version, the V8-powered S6 was supplied with a four-speed automatic transmission as standard, but kept the quattro four wheel drive. A six-speed manual gearbox was available as an option; as a swan song to the C4 platform, an more powerful, limited-production Audi S6 PLUS was available to European customers. The S6 PLUS, developed by Audi's wholly owned high performance subsidiary, quattro GmbH, was available for sale during the 1997 model year only. A total of 952 cars were produced–855 Avants, 97 saloons, it was powered by another version of the 32-valve 4.2-litre V8 engine. Audi's performance division reworked key parts of the engine, increasing the maximum power to 240 kW.
It was only available with a revised six-speed manual transmission, with a final drive ratio of 4.111. Further revisions were made to the suspension and wheels; the front brake discs were enlarged to 323 mm in diameter by 30 mm thick. Standard wheels were 8Jx17 "Avus" cast aluminium alloy wheels, with an optional 7Jx16 alloy wheel for use with winter tyres was available. The Mazda MX-5 is a lightweight two-passenger roadster manufactured and marketed by Mazda with a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The convertible is marketed as the Mazda MX-5 Miata in North America, where it is known as the Miata, as the Eunos Roadster or Mazda Roadster in Japan. Manufactured at Mazda's Hiroshima plant, the MX-5 debuted in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show and was conceived and executed under a focused design credo, Jinba ittai, meaning oneness of horse and rider. Noted for its small, technologically modern, dynamically balanced and minimally complex design, the MX-5 is the spiritual successor to 1950s and'60s Italian and British sports cars, prominently the Lotus Elan. Generations were internally designated with a two letter code, beginning with the first generation, the NA; the second generation, launched in 1998 for MY 1999. As the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history, the MX-5 has been marketed globally, with production exceeding one million, as of early 2016.
The name "miata" derives from Old High German for "reward". The MX-5's first generation, the NA, sold over 400,000 units from May 1989 to 1997—with a 1.6 L inline-four engine to 1993, a 1.8 L engine thereafter —recognizable by its pop-up headlights. The second generation was introduced in 1999 with a slight increase in engine power; the third generation was introduced in 2006 with a 2.0 L engine and larger body size, with a Power Retractable Hard Top variant added in 2007. The fourth generation was introduced in 2015 with a new 2.0 L SKYACTIV-G engine and a body size similar to the first generation model, with a Retractable Fastback variant added that year. Launched at a time when production of small roadsters had come to an end, the Alfa Romeo Spider was the only comparable volume model in production at the time of the MX-5's launch. Just a decade earlier, a host of similar models—notably the MG B, Triumph TR7, Triumph Spitfire, Fiat Spider—had been available; the body is a light, unibody construction, with front and rear subframes.
The MX-5 incorporates a longitudinal truss, marketed as the Powerplant Frame, providing a rigid connection between the engine and differential, minimizing flex and contributing to responsive handling. Some MX-5s feature anti-lock braking system. Traction control is standard on ND models. MX-5s weigh over one tonne. With an approximate 50:50 front/rear weight balance, the car has nearly neutral handling. Inducing oversteer is easy and controllable, thus making the MX-5 a popular choice for amateur and stock racing, including, in the US, the Sports Car Club of America's Solo autocross and Spec Miata race series, in the UK, the 5Club Racing championship. Raddatz and Otten won the AASA Australian Endurance Championship in 2011; the MX-5 has won awards including Wheels Magazine's Car of the Year for 1989, 2005 and 2016. The Miata has made Car and Driver magazine's annual 10 Best list 17 times. In 2009, English automotive critic Jeremy Clarkson wrote: The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun; the only reason I'm giving it five stars is. In 1976, Bob Hall, a journalist at Motor Trend magazine, an expert in Japanese cars and fluent in the language, met Kenichi Yamamoto and Gai Arai, head of Research and Development at Mazda. Yamamoto and Gai Arai asked Hall what kind of car Mazda should make in the future: I babbled how the simple, bugs-in-the-teeth, wind-in-the-hair, classically-British sports car doesn't exist any more. I told Mr. Yamamoto. In 1981, Hall moved to a product planning position with Mazda USA and again met Yamamoto, now chairman of Mazda Motors, who remembered their conversation about a roadster and in 1982 gave Hall the go-ahead to research the idea further. At this time Hall hired designer Mark Jordan to join the newly formed Mazda design studio in Southern California.
There and Jordan collaborated on the parameters of the initial image and visualization of the "light-weight sports" concept. In 1983, the idea turned concept was approved under the "Offline 55" program, an internal Mazda initiative that sought to change the way new models were developed. Thus, under head of project Masakatsu, the concept development was turned into a competition between the Mazda design teams in Tokyo and California; the Californian team proposed a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, codenamed Duo 101, in line with the British roadster ancestry, but their Japanese counterparts favored the more common front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout or the rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The Ford C-Max is a compact multi-purpose vehicle produced by the Ford Motor Company since 2003. The Ford Grand C-Max has a longer wheelbase. Ford introduced the C-Max in the United States as its first hybrid-only line of vehicles, which includes the C-Max Hybrid, released in September 2012, the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, launched in October 2012. Although the C-Max was available only in Europe, the first generation was available in New Zealand. With the introduction of the new large MPVs S-Max and Galaxy, the C-Max is now the mid-sized multi-purpose vehicle in Ford's lineup, above the now discontinued B-Max. C-Max Mk I was the first product to use the Ford C1 platform used by the Ford Focus Mk II and the compact MPV Premacy/Mazda5, its internal code name is C214. It seats five passengers and has a large amount of cargo space, which can be increased by folding the rear seats flat; some models feature diagonally sliding outer rear seats. It shares the control blade independent rear suspension from the Focus.

The name change to C-Max is attributable to Ford's MPV strategy of creating a'Max' branded line of MPVs, starting with the Ford S-Max, launched in 2006; the facelift brought the car in line with Ford's'Kinetic Design' design language, evidenced through its twin trapezoidal grilles, large wheel arches and angular headlights.
However, as the car does not have a bodyshell designed for'Kinetic Design,' Ford states that the car contains only'elements' of the design language. Alongside the third generation Ford Focus Mk III, the second generation C-Max is built on Ford's new Global C platform; the appearance is inspired by the Iosis Max concept, shown at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. In addition, Ford added a long wheelbase, seven-seat minivan variant of the C-Max, the Ford Grand C-MaxThe vehicle was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Early European models include 5 seats, 7-seat models entered the market at the end of 2010. At the 2011 North American International Auto Show, Ford announced a 7-seat C-MAX for the North American market. However, this model was cancelled prior to launch. Ford unveiled the Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid and the C-Max Hybrid at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. Like the conventional C-Max, the C-Max Energi and Hybrid are five-seat only, they replace the Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid since Ford discontinued the Mercury brand after the 2011 model year and the Escape Hybrid after the 2012 year model.
The C-Max is Ford's first hybrid-only line of vehicles. Both the plug-in and hybrid version designs are based on the European gasoline- and diesel-powered versions; the C-Max Hybrid was released in the United States in September 2012 as a 2013 model year, followed by the release of the plug-in Energi version by mid October 2012. Production of the C-Max Energi in the United States ended in September 2017, while Hybrid production ended in 2018; the new Mk III platform is the first in its class to support Torque Vectoring Control. The redesigned C-Max features flat folding third row seats, a hands free power lift gate, rear view camera, park assist, panoramic sunroof. HD Radio, Sirius XM, dual-zone climate control system, navigation system come as standard or as available options on the different trim lines; the aerodynamics of the car has been improved, being 0,30 for the 5 seater and 0,32 for the Grand C-Max. Like the previous C-Max, the new C-Max comes with a range of petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines which are shared with the Focus: 1.0 L Ecoboost comes available in two states of tune, alongside the 1.6 - 100 hp and 125 hp guises.
1.6 L Duratec Ti-VCT is available in three spec, 85PS, 105 hp and 125PS 1.6 L EcoBoost comes with 150 hp or 182 hp variant, same as in Focus 1.6/2.0 L Duratorq TDCi Ford/PSA made diesels are upgraded, Ford's 1.8 L Endura engine is not available any more. The Ford C-MAX was facelifted in 2015 and the 1.6 ecoboost changed from 1.6 ECOBOOST 125 PS to the 1.0 ECOBOOST 125PS along with the 1.6 TDCI 115PS DUROTORQ changing to the 1.5 TDCI 120 PS DUROTORQ Single Over head cam unit. Ford developed the C-Max Hybrid with the aim to become "America’s most affordable hybrid utility vehicle." The gasoline-electric hybrid model base pricing starts at US$24,995, including destination and delivery. The Opel Corsa is a supermini car engineered and produced by the German automobile manufacturer Opel since 1982. It has been sold under a variety of other brands and spawned various derivatives in different markets, its current fifth generation is built in Germany. However, despite its global presence, it has never been sold in the United States or Canada; the front-wheel drive Opel Corsa was first launched in September 1982. Built in Zaragoza, the first Corsas were three door hatchback and two door saloon models, with four door and five door versions arriving in 1984. In mainland Europe, the saloon versions were known as the "Corsa TR" until May 1985; the saloons did not sell well in most of Europe but were popular in Spain and Portugal, among other markets. While only taking ten per cent of French Corsa sales during the car's first half year, in Spain, the TR represented half of all Corsas sold; the basic trim level was called just the Corsa, followed by the Corsa Luxus, Corsa Berlina and the sporty Corsa SR.
The SR receives a spoiler which surrounds the rear window, alloy wheels, checkered sport seats, a somewhat more powerful 70 PS engine. Six years the Corsa received a facelift, which included a new front fascia and some other minor changes; the models were called LS, GL, GLS and GT. The Corsa A was known in the United Kingdom market as the Vauxhall Nova, where it was launched in April 1983, following a seven month long union dispute due to British workers being angry about the car not being built there. Whilst British built cars were subject to huge import tariffs in Spain prior to its entry into the European Community, it replaced the ageing Chevette, which finished production in January 1984. Nearly 500,000 versions of the Nova were sold in Britain over the next ten years, but by February 2016, only 1,757 were still on the road. In its best year, 1989, it was Britain's seventh best selling car with more than 70,000 sales. Power first came from 1.4 L 75 hp petrol engines. The engines were based on the well proven Family II design, except for the 1.0 L and early 1.2 L engines, which were based on the OHV unit from the Kadett C.
There was an Isuzu built, 50 PS 1.5 L diesel engine available, used in the Isuzu Gemini at around the same time. The diesel joined the line up at the Frankfurt Motor Show, along with the sporty GSi; the engines and most of the mechanical componentry were derived from those used in the Astra/Kadett. A rare "Sport" model was produced in 1985 to homologate for the sub 1,300 cc class of Group A for the British Rally Championship; these sport models were white and came with unique vinyl decals, a 13SB engine with twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors, an optional bespoke camshaft, a replacement rear silencer, few luxuries. This gave a top speed of 112 mph with a 0 -- 60 mph time of 8.9 seconds. These are by far the rarest models and thus acquire a high market price if one does become available. A 1.6 L multi point fuel-injected engine with 101 PS at 5,600 rpm and capable of 186 km/h was added to the Corsa/Nova at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, giving decent performance and being badged as a GSi. The GSi's engine mapping had been carried out by Opel tuning specialists Irmscher.
A model with the 82 PS 1.4 L multi point fuel injected engine, otherwise mechanically identical to the GSi became available as the Nova SRi in the United Kingdom. In January 1988, a turbocharged version of the Isuzu diesel engine was introduced, with power increased to 67 PS; the design was freshened in September 1990, with new bumpers, headlights and interior, but it was recognisable as a gentle makeover of an early 1980s design, when it had to compete with the latest two all new superminis in Europe – the Peugeot 106 and the Renault Clio. The Corsa A was rebadged as the "Vauxhall Nova" between 1983 to 1993 for the United Kingdom, it replaced the ageing Vauxhall Chevette. All Nova models were manufactured in Spain, with the first customers in the United Kingdom taking delivery of their cars in April 1983, it gave Vauxhall a much needed modern competitor in the supermini market in the United Kingdom, as the Chevette was older than the majority of its main competitors which consisted of the Ford Fiesta and the Austin Metro.
Sales in the United Kingdom were strong right up to the end, but by the time the last Nova was built in the beginning of 1993, it was looking dated in comparison to more modern rivals like the Peugeot 106 and the Renault Clio. Vauxhall dropped the "Nova" name in 1993 when their version of the Opel Corsa B made its debut, models were sold as the "Vauxhall Corsa" instead; this was the second Vauxhall to adopt the same model name as the Opel version, the first being the Senator. A television advert in 1986 featured the Ritchie Valens hit "La Bamba" playing in the background CGI allowed a Nova to drive over vehicles in a busy city. Another advert from 1990 featured a Nova as a pet, CGI allowing it to jump through a traffic jam and play a hotrod whilst stopped at traffic lights; the end featured a homage with the Nova laughing like Muttley. The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover by German automaker BMW. The first generation was released for sale in April 2008 for the 2009 model year The X6 was marketed as a sports activity coupé by BMW, it combines the attributes of an SUV with the stance of a coupé. It was based on the previous generation BMW 6 Series. E71 development began in 2003 under Peter Tuennermann, after start of E70 X5 development in 2001. Design work by E70 X5 designer Pierre Leclercq was frozen in 2005, with test mules being run from the summer of 2005 and prototypes being tested from late 2006. Production began on December 3, 2007; the second generation X6 was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. The concept model debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show by Aman Chhikara and the production X6 debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Montreal International Auto Show. While longer and wider than the X5, it is lower and seated only four, since 2011, optionally five, it is built in BMW's North American plant in Greer, South Carolina alongside the BMW X5, whose platform it shares.
It is dubbed a "Sports Activity Coupé" by BMW. A hybrid version, the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid, the first such vehicle from BMW, was announced. In April 2009, the X6 M version was announced, with a 547 hp 4.4-litre turbocharged V8. The X6 marks BMW's first use of its new Dynamic Performance Control system, which works in unison with xDrive all-wheel drive, both being standard on the X6. DPC is a drivetrain and chassis control system that works to regulate traction and correct over- and understeer by spreading out drive forces across the rear axle. Torque is distributed not only between the front and rear wheels but from side to side at the rear, for improved agility and added stability; this lateral distribution of torque is known as torque vectoring.
