Alexander Kohut was a rabbi and orientalist. He belonged to a family of rabbis, the most noted among them being Rabbi Israel Palota, his great-grandfather, Rabbi Amram, and Rabbi Chayyim Kitssee, rabbi in Erza, who was his great-granduncle. The last-named was the author of several rabbinic works.

Tarnowskie Góry is a town in Silesia, southern Poland, located in the Silesian Highlands near Katowice. Located in the north of the Metropolis GZM, a megalopolis, the greater Upper Silesian-Moravian metropolitan area populated by about 5,294,000 people. The population of the town is 61,842 (2021). As of 1999, it is part of Silesian Voivodeship, previously Katowice Voivodeship.
