Jack Kerouac lived with his parents for a time above a corner drug store in Ozone Park (now a flower shop), while writing some of his earliest work. There was no phone in the apartment and they would take calls from a public phone in the drug store downstairs. Kerouac would bring a kettle to the bar across the street to be filled with beer for family meals.
