Moline is a city located in Rock Island County, United States. With a population of 43,977 in 2010, it is the largest city in Rock Island County. Moline is one of the Quad Cities, along with neighboring East Moline and Rock Island in Illinois and the cities of Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa; the Quad Cities have an estimated population of 381,342. The city is the ninth-most populated city in Illinois outside the Chicago Metropolitan Area; the corporate headquarters of Deere & Company is located in Moline, as was Montgomery Elevator, founded and headquartered in Moline until 1997, when it was acquired by Kone Elevator, which has its U. S. Division headquartered in Moline. Quad City International Airport, Niabi Zoo, Black Hawk College, the Quad Cities campus of Western Illinois University-Quad Cities. Moline is a retail hub for the Illinois Quad Cities, as South Park Mall and numerous big-box shopping plazas are located in the city. In the mid-1990s, the city undertook major efforts to revitalize its central business district, which had declined after suburban growth and retail changes after the 1950s and 1960s.
Today, Moline's downtown again serves as one of the recreational hubs of the Quad Cities. Downtown Moline features hotels such as Radisson, The Element Moline, The Axis Hotel, Stoney Creek Inn, along with commercial areas such as Bass Street Landing and the historic 5th Avenue. Moline acquired its name after it was platted in 1843; the name derives from the French moulin meaning "mill town". The city of Moline is nestled beside and on a broad bluff situated between the banks of the Mississippi River and Rock River in Rock Island County, Illinois; the city's highland areas are cut across by many deep ravines that break up the city into natural neighborhoods. The city is bounded to the west by Rock Island. Moline is located 165 miles west of Chicago and 164 miles northwest of Springfield, Illinois. Moline and its neighboring communities within the Quad Cities form the largest urban area along the Mississippi River between the Twin Cities to the north and St. Louis to the south, are located halfway between them.
The area is served by four interstate highways: Interstate 74, Interstate 280, Interstate 80, Interstate 88. The Quad City International Airport, located on the southern fringe of the city to the south of the Rock River, is home to four commercial airlines providing non-stop flights to eight different cities; this airport is the third busiest one in the state of Illinois, following Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 16.66 square miles, of which 16.43 square miles is land and 0.23 square miles is water. Typical of the northern half of Illinois, Moline experiences a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, moderately snowy winters; the normal monthly mean temperature ranges from 22.6 °F in January to 75.4 °F in July. Extremes in temperature have ranged from 111 °F, set on July 14, 1936, down to −33 °F, set on January 30, 2019. Temperatures reach 100 °F only several years per decade, −20 °F readings are rarer.
The average window for freezing temperatures is October 10 thru April 24, allowing a growing season of 168 days. Snowfall averages 31.6 inches per season, but has ranged as low as 11.1 in in 1901–02 to 69.7 in in 1974–75. Unlike much of the Midwest, measurable snow has never occurred in May. Indigenous peoples of varying cultures inhabited areas along the river over thousands of years, using it for transportation and fishing. According to the Rock Island County Historical Society, the first more permanently settled inhabitants of the Moline area are thought to be the Sauk and Meskwaki Indians, who founded the village of Saukenuk in 1720 along the Rock River not far from its confluence with the Mississippi; this tribe saw the land between the Mississippi rivers as ideal for farming and fishing. By the early 19th century, this once peaceful area became a site of violent confrontations between European-American settlers, arriving in greater numbers and encroaching on Native American land, the Sauk and Fox tribes.
In 1832 Chief Black Hawk declared war on the United States. When the war ended that year, Black Hawk and his people were forced to leave the area and go north, paving the way for more European-American settlers to enter the Mississippi Valley. The AgustaWestland AW189 is a twin-engined, medium-lift helicopter manufactured by Leonardo S.p. A.. It is derived from the AW149, shares similarities with the AW139 and AW169. On 20 June 2011, development of the 8-tonne twin-engine AW189 was formally announced by AgustaWestland at the Paris International Air Show; the AW189 is a civil-orientated version of the military AW149, which in turn is an enlarged development of the popular AW139. AgustaWestland stated its aims to sell the AW189 for offshore helicopter support and rescue, passenger transport roles. On 21 December 2011, the first AW189 conducted its maiden flight from AgustaWestland's facility in Cascina Costa, Italy. During the flight test program, a total of six AW189s were used, these being four prototypes and a pair of pre-production aircraft; the pre-production aircraft were used to develop mission kits and configurations for offshore and SAR roles, enabling these to be certified and available for customer selection. In August 2013, the fifth prototype was dispatched to the UK, so that AgustaWestland's UK branch could begin work on certifying the type for SAR operations.
In June 2013, AgustaWestland announced. In October 2013, the first production model performed its first flight. In February 2014, the AW189 received type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency. In August 2015, civil certification for the AW189 was issued by the Interstate Aviation Committee. In June 2015, it was reported that slow development of the ice-protection systems, to be offered upon the AW189 had delayed the introduction of Bristow Helicopters UK-based SAR operations using the type, at the time being in a state of "operational evaluation". In September 2015, AgustaWestland announced that EASA certification of the AW189's limited ice protection system had been granted, stated that the rotorcraft is the first in its category to receive such certification. In Autumn 2015, AgustaWestland conducted icing trials in Alaska to provide flight within full icing conditions certification as part of efforts to qualify the type for the SAR role. In October 2017 Leonardo announced that a new version of the helicopter is under development: named AW189K, it will be powered by two 2'500 hp Safran Aneto-1K turboshafts produced by Safran Helicopter Engines.
EASA certification for the AW189K was expected in late 2018. By October 2018, the AW189K prototype had accumulated 105h across 90 flights, on track for a late 2019 certification. Hot and high operations should benefit from the additional 500shp per engine; the Aneto specific fuel consumption should be 10% higher than the replaced CT7s. The AW189 is a medium-sized twin-engined helicopter with a five-bladed articulated main rotor, a four-bladed tail rotor and a retractable tricycle landing gear, it is powered by two General Electric CT7-2E1 turboshaft engines. AgustaWestland refer to the AW189 as being a "super-medium class" helicopter, emphasizing its suitability for long-range operations. During development, the AW189 was designed to comply with the latest international regulatory safety requirements EASA/FAA Part 29, JAR OPS 3/EU-OPS. Of particular importance to the type's use for offshore operations, such as search and rescue and services to the oil & gas industries, the main gearbox has been designed to provide for a 50-minute run-dry capacity, in excess of requirements and a unique feature to the AW189.
Aspects of the AW189 are deliberately similar to the AW139 and AW169. Areas of the aircraft's operation, such as maintenance and the layout of the cockpit continue this concept, which makes operations more cost effective; the cockpit features high levels of external visibility and advanced situational awareness technologies, is designed to reduce crew workload and enhance safety. Avionics on the AW189 are integrated and include four color LCD panels, a 4-axis dual-duplex digital automatic flight control system, search/weather radar, cockpit voice recorder, flight data recorder, night vision goggle-compatibility and usage monitoring system, moving map system, SATCOM, synthetic vision system, emergency locator system, helicopter terrain avoidance system, traffic collision avoidance system II, direction finder, forward looking infrared camera, VHF/UHF radio; the avionics were designed to use an open architecture, making customer-specified upgrades and additions easier and enabling additional options.
Dependent on the configuration, the AW189's cabin can accommodate up to 19 passengers and two crew members on crashworthy seats. According to AgustaWestland, the AW189 possesses the largest cabin in its class, accessed via large sliding doors on either side of the fuselage; the interior is customised to the mission role being undertaken, these include a self-contained emergency medical service layout, passenger configurations
Shin-Shibaura Station is a railway station operated by East Japan Railway Company in Tsurumi-ku, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Shin-Shibaura Station is served by the Tsurumi Line, is located 3.9 kilometers from the terminus at Tsurumi Station. Shin-Shibaura Station has two opposed side platforms serving two tracks, connected by a level crossing. Shin-Shibaura Station was opened on June 10, 1932 as a station on a spur line of the held Tsurumi Rinkō Railway; the line was extended on the Umi-Shibaura Station on November 1, 1940. The Tsurumi Rinkō line was nationalized on July 1, 1943, was absorbed into the Japan National Railway network; the station has been unstaffed since March 1, 1971.
