Steinmetz College Prep is a public 4–year high school located in the Belmont Cragin community area on the Northwest Side of Chicago, Illinois. Steinmetz is a part of the Chicago Public Schools district. The school is named for the German-American mathematician and electrical engineer Charles Proteus Steinmetz. The school opened in 1934. Steinmetz is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme school. The school has an active Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC).

Charles Proteus Steinmetz
Charles Proteus Steinmetz was an American mathematician and electrical engineer and professor at Union College. He fostered the development of alternating current that made possible the expansion of the electric power industry in the United States, formulating mathematical theories for engineers. He made ground-breaking discoveries in the understanding of hysteresis that enabled engineers to design better electromagnetic apparatus equipment, especially electric motors for use in industry.
