Victoria Reid

Victoria Reid, was an indigenous Tongva woman from the village of Comicranga, at what is now Santa Monica, California. She is notable for having been one of the few Indigenous people to be granted land by the Mexican Republic, and for having respected social status in Mexican California. She is also notable for her marriage as a widow to Hugo Reid, a Scottish immigrant who became a naturalized Mexican citizen. After her marriage to Reid, she was known as "Victoria", and referred to respectfully as Doña Victoria.
At the age of six, she was taken from her parents to Mission San Gabriel (pictured).
Eulalia Pérez de Guillén Mariné (pictured), keeper of the keys, chose Bartolomea as her assistant at the mission. Perez later supported Victoria Reid's land grant acquisition of the Huerta de Cuati.
The Hugo Reid Adobe (ca. 1900–1902), located at Rancho Santa Anita, primarily managed by Hugo.
Benjamin Davis Wilson became a conservator of Victoria Reid after Hugo's death. Wilson signed away her land in a dubious manner, indicating Victoria had lost status as an indigenous woman in white American society to control her property compared to her status in Mexican California.

Benjamin Davis Wilson, commonly known as Don Benito Wilson, was an American-Mexican politician, fur trapper, and ranchero of California. Born in Tennessee, Wilson eventually settled in Alta California when it was part of the Republic of Mexico, and acquired Rancho Jurupa. He became a naturalized Mexican citizen and married into a prominent Californio family.
