Sir William Withey Gull, 1st Baronet was an English physician. Of modest family origins, he established a lucrative private practice and served as Governor of Guy's Hospital, Fullerian Professor of Physiology and President of the Clinical Society. In 1871, having successfully treated the Prince of Wales during a life-threatening attack of typhoid fever, he was created a Baronet and appointed to be one of the Physicians-in-Ordinary to Queen Victoria.

A caricature of Gull appeared in the British magazine Vanity Fair on 18 December 1875, under the title "Physiological Physic". This was one of a series of over 2,000 Vanity Fair caricatures showing prominent personalities of the time.

Guy's Hospital is an NHS hospital founded by Thomas Guy, located in the borough of Southwark in central London. It is part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and one of the institutions that comprise the King's Health Partners, an academic health science centre.
